Monkey Baa's Pete The Sheep

Event Date: 05/04/2014, 01:00 pm

Monkey Baa Theatre Company presents the world premiere of their new musical Pete the Sheep
Monkey Baa Theatre Company will present the world premiere of their fabulous new musical Pete the Sheep. This all new Australian musical has been written by Monkey Baa’s Creative Team, Eva Di Cesare, Sandra Eldridge and Tim McGarry and is basedon the quintessentially Australian picture book by 2014 Australian Children’s Laureate Jackie French and illustrator Bruce Whatley.
With direction by the ‘Wharf Revue’s’ Jonathan Biggins and music composed by Phillip Scot and set & costumes by James Browne this truly timeless ‘Ocker’ tale is guaranteed to provide 50 minutes of hilarious fun that will delight young people aged from 4 to 9 and their families.
After the Darling Quarter Theatre season Monkey Baa Theatre Company take Pete the Sheep on the company’s largest ever tour and the largest tour ever undertaken by a company which will include performances in 54 venues across Australia.
Pete the Sheep will be imaginatively told by Jeff Teal, Todd Keys, Andrew James and Nat Jobe playing shearers, dogs and sheep who explore the challenges and rewards of being an individual, when we meet Shaun, the new sheep shearer in ‘Shaggy Gully’. Since shearing is such hard work, all the other shearers have sheep dogs to help them, but not Shaun. He has Pete, a sheep-sheep. The other shearers in the shed are not happy with Shaun and his sheep-sheep.
Following rejection by the shearers and their dogs, Shaun and Pete set up their own Shearing Salon in town where they are inundated with woolly clients, who delight in Shaun’s styling prowess.

...a truly Aussie tale – delightful, funny, iconic, warm and hilariously Ocker, from the lingo to the names to the shearers’ blue singlets...

James Valentine Quartet

Event Date: 04/04/2014, 08:30 pm

Featuring the best of James' arrangements from his 3 CDs
In addition to it's leader and saxophonist, the James Valentine Quartet features Gary Daley on keyboards, Peter Kohlhoff bass and Nic Cecire on drums. At their premiere gig for Foundry616, they will be joined by special guest and their new best friend, guitarist Adam Moses.

The Quartet will play a grooving standard or two but then it will bring the swing and James' great hard blowing style to all kinds of contemporary tunes - Australian rock classics like Flame Trees and Under the Milky Way, big hit tunes of more recent days from bands like Oasis and Nirvana. It's a fascinating mix and a fabulous sound.

Adam Moses is a great guitarist, singer and songwriter. He'll play some of his beautiful original tunes and some good hard funk as well.

It's a wonderful night bringing the best of James' arrangements from his three CDs and some totally fresh music as well.

Sirens

Event Date: 03/04/2014, 08:30 pm

Sydney's hottest big band
Sydney's hottest big band The Sirens bring their beautiful big sound to Foundry616 for the first time!

Local jazz audiences are familiar with this enigmatic ensemble, but for anyone yet to experience them, get ready to be blown away by a masterful 17-piece all-female ensemble who have been performing since 2009. Since their formation, The Sirens have established themselves as a vital and innovative jazz ensemble, releasing a stunning debut album in December 2012 - Kali and the Time of Change - and performing widely with many leading guest artists, including Lanie Lane, Jeff Duff and most recently, US saxophonist Clare Daley as part of the 2013 Sydney International Women's Jazz Festival.

Formed as a direct response to the under-representation of women in the jazz music community, the group brings together some of Australia’s strongest and most innovative young female jazz musicians and improvisers. Under the direction of bassist, Jessica Dunn, Sirens Big Band has a unique Australian voice that explores the intersection of traditional Australian Jazz with the rich musical traditions of our multicultural society.

The band has built a reputation as engaging and exciting live performers who create an inviting atmosphere. A thrill to see and hear live.
