For the first time, see this wonderful book come alive on stage.

Recently honoured by the Children’s Book Council of Australia in the Early Childhood category, NIDA is delighted to present a live version of this remarkable book.

'Too Many Elephants in this House', created by two of Australia’s best-loved children’s authors, will be vividly brought to life on NIDA’s main stage, the Parade Theatre.

Specifically designed to engage young people with humour and mystery, this unique story encourages creative problem solving and playfully explores the concepts of size, space and perspective.

"In Eric's house there were too many elephants – in the living room, in the kitchen, in the bathroom, even in his bedroom! The elephants take up a lot of space, but Eric loves every one of them. So when his mum says they have to go, Eric comes up with a clever solution to a very BIG problem..."

Under the guidance and expertise of NIDA staff, this production will introduce children to the excitement of live performance while celebrating children’s writing.

Suitable for children 2 years and up.

Your Emcee is Lindsay Webb (QLD). Lindsay is widely known as one of the best, if not THE best Emcee in the business. He has been on TV shows, like ‘Good News Week’ and ‘The Footy Show’, has been ‘the funny bloke’ on the Sea FM Morning Crew (QLD) and has toured sold out Festival shows around Australia and New Zealand. He even has a Guinness World Record for The Longest Show by An Individual - 38hrs & 6 mins (October, 2009)! "left marvelling at his instant wit" **** Herald Sun.

Your headline act is musical comedy sensation, Smart Casual!! Hand-picked by The Melbourne International Comedy Festival for their new talent showcase in 2009, these festival favourites are most loved for their infectious energy, catchy songs, amazing live shows, undeniable stage presence, and hit YouTube videos (including ‘The Hawk’, about an alleged love affair between Jennifer Hawkins and Stephen Hawking) . This marks the first year in quite a while that Smart Casual are not doing the Sydney Comedy Festival, so this will be the best way to soak up their brilliance in Sydney at this time of year. “Immediately likeable. Aussie laconic humour is alive and well,” The Age.

Tiny Hearts CD Launch
Tiny Hearts is a collaborative ensemble founded by two exciting voices in contemporary jazz, Eamon Dilworth & Paul Derricott. Featuring compositions from each member, the music draws inspiration from personal experiences, encouraging the listener’s mind to explore imagination.

There are tales of travel, searching, thinking of the cosmos, loss and identity and strong melodic devices that are turned, twisted and developed through improvisation into powerful, emotionally charged and often high energy performances.

In March 2014, Tiny Hearts released their debut album Alluvium which was recorded following a tour across New Zealand and the east coast of Australia.

Exciting drummer and winner of the 2013 Jann Rutherford Memorial Award (JRMA), Jodie Michael debuted her new quartet Broken Time for Foundry616 in October 2013. Jodie Michael was hailed as a major talent almost a decade ago as a student musician. Now a graduate of Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Studies, and having performed widely in trio format and picked up the JRMA, she plans to shake up the scene with Broken Time.
