Tiny Hearts CD Launch
Tiny Hearts is a collaborative ensemble founded by two exciting voices in contemporary jazz, Eamon Dilworth & Paul Derricott. Featuring compositions from each member, the music draws inspiration from personal experiences, encouraging the listener’s mind to explore imagination.

There are tales of travel, searching, thinking of the cosmos, loss and identity and strong melodic devices that are turned, twisted and developed through improvisation into powerful, emotionally charged and often high energy performances.

In March 2014, Tiny Hearts released their debut album Alluvium which was recorded following a tour across New Zealand and the east coast of Australia.

Featuring:

Eamon Dilworth - Trumpet,
Dave Jackson - Saxophone,
Steve Barry - Piano,
Tom Botting - Double Bass
Paul Derricott - Drums

The Young Tycoons

Event Date: 16/05/2014, 08:00 pm

The Young Tycoons by CJ Johnson
Darlinghurst Theatre Company presents a wickedly subversive comedy that takes a scathing and satirical look at the ruthless world of Australia’s empire builders. The Young Tycoons by CJ Johnson will preview from 16 May and open on 20 May at the Eternity Playhouse.

A smash hit for Darlinghurst Theatre Company in 2005 and 2006, this new version, created especially for the Eternity Playhouse stage, promises to be every bit as scandalous and uproariously funny.

Michael Pigott is excited to revisit this work, having directed both sell out shows almost a decade ago. “Still as edgy and incisive as ever, this contemporary piece has been reworked to bring it right up to today. With reimagined staging and design, a new cast and a different ending, audiences can expect the unexpected.”

When Australia’s two largest media barons hand over power to their sons, fortunes are risked, secrets are exposed, unspeakable acts are performed and lives are ruined.

Kim and Trevor are two young men each handed the keys to mighty media empires. They leap into a major takeover together, but Kim goes in for ten times the level of investment. When the share price starts plummeting, the results include ridicule, outrage – and death.

Darlinghurst Theatre Company Director Glenn Terry has long-admired the work of CJ Johnson. “He is a writer who taps into our desires and creates a seductive world that we secretly aspire to. The Young Tycoons is about power and extreme wealth and Johnson lures us in and presents its darker side.”

Directed by Michael Pigott (The Dysfunckshonalz, La La Land), the cast includes Andrew Cutcliffe (Calendar Girls) as Trevor, Edmund Lembke-Hogan (All’s Well that Ends Well) as Kim, John Turnbull (Hamlet) as Liam, Lawrence Coy (The Removalists) as Ted, Terry Serio (Hollywood Ending) as Donald, Briallen Clarke (All My Sons) as Kylie, James Lugton (The Taming of the Shrew) as Dave, Paige Gardiner (Marriage Blanc) as Sally and Gabrielle Scawthorn (Poetry

The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice

Event Date: 15/05/2014, 07:30 pm

Finding your own voice can be magic!
The Rise and Fall of LITTLE VOICE
by Jim Cartwright, directed by Christine Firkin
-- Winner Olivier Award for Best Comedy --

Blown fuses, real and metaphorical, punctuate the action with flashes of pent-up energy in this acclaimed play coming to the inner west’s New Theatre in May.

The powerful, gritty and darkly funny production won popular and critical praise in its recent premiere run at the Zenith Theatre. It comes to Newtown by invitation… and popular demand.

“Touching amusing and nostalgic, talented Neilson steals the show,” – What’s On Sydney
“This show will touch your heart, bring a smile to your lips, and perhaps some tears too.” Sydney Arts Guide
“I doubt that the West End or Broadway could have delivered a better production...outstanding!” – Weekend Notes

Debbie Neilson stars as ‘LV’ the diminutive, troubled heroine. She frequently plunges the dilapidated house she shares with her alcoholic mother into darkness by playing her dead father's records at a volume matched only by the soulful power of her own vocal impressions.

Little Voice has a hidden talent: she can channel every iconic chanteuse from Garland and Bassey to Monroe and Piaf. She hides in her room, crooning and dreaming of love, while her disheveled mother mistakes a seedy agent's interest as affection rather than his true enthusiasm for the goldmine he imagines LV will deliver him. This is an engaging fairy tale of despair, love and - finally - hope as LV struggles to find a voice of her own.

Directed by Christine Firkin, the all-star cast features Wendy Morton, Nick Bolton, Kevin Weir, Luke Reeves, Michelle Bellamy, Mark Reiss and the extraordinary talents of Debbie Neilson as LV.

This strictly limited season of just seven performances plays (by invitation) at the New Theatre, Newtown from 15-24 May, Thursday to Saturday 7:30pm plus Sun 5pm. Final performance Sat 24th May at 5pm. Don’t miss it!
