Gala Opening Night!

Australia’s much-loved star of stage and screen, Daryl Somers, is set to return to the spotlight
in a dazzling new production of the all-singing, all-dancing Broadway favourite: Hot Shoe Shuffle.

The Triple Gold Logie-winning star of "Hey Hey it’s Saturday", "Family Feud" and "Dancing With the Stars"
joins a stellar cast for the debut production of South West Sydney’s newest independent theatre group Birdie Productions.

Hot Shoe Shuffle tells the story of seven brothers who must put together their father’s old club show
to get their hands on the money he has left them in his will!

With hurdles aplenty, pranks and pratfalls – and a newly-discovered sister into the bargain -
the boys find out that the most important thing, after all, is family.

Luke Alleva (We Will Rock You, The Rocky Horror Picture Show) will head up the seven brothers
in the role of “Spring”. Jay Johns (So You Think You Can Dance) plays “Slap”, joining Sezgin Aygun,
Samuel Boesen, Pauly Maybury, Jonathan Nash-Daly and Louis Vinciguerra.

Erin Bruce - who recently had the honour of singing the Australian Anthem at the
2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi - stars in the only female role in the show, “April”.

Ticket are already “going like hot cakes – or perhaps, rather – hot shoes!”
according to executive producer, Rodney Bertram.

“We have been inundated with exciting feedback since announcing Daryl’s involvement.
With such a limited season, you have to get in early to avoid missing out!”

Melvyn Morrow’s new Australian play
Gala Opening Night!

"There are many twisted strands to the hangman’s rope."

A sexually precocious north shore private schoolboy, a vice-principal out of his depth, his flirtatious drama teacher wife, a gay trustee at the centre of rumours,
a ruthlessly ambitious department head and an old boy senior counsel…

These are just some of the explosive ingredients in the powder keg that is Melvyn Morrow’s
new Australian play, VICE, opening for a limited season at King Street Theatre, Newtown from 21 April.

In the context of the current inquiries into the shameful and criminal tragedy of sexual assault in schools,
VICE provides a disturbing window, looking through a dark lens at the maze of motivations
swirling around the underworld of staff and students.

Morrow (her holiness, A Song to Sing O, Dusty, Shout! among dozens of plays and adaptations)
ought to know his subject well: for over forty years he taught English and directed plays
in independent schools in Australia, England and France.

“Truth, like quicksilver, can be slithery. VICE will certainly divide audiences,” says Morrow.

“What you see on a glossy travel brochure and the reality you discover once you’ve reached the
destination can often be poles apart. It’s the same with schools."

VICE is directed by Elaine Hudson (STC’s The Crucible) and stars Jonathan Deves (St James Infirmary), Margi de Ferranti (Ruthless, Carrie), Roger Gimblett (The Winslow Boy), Christopher Hamilton (The Hatpin, Les Miz), Jess Loudon (The Big Funk) and Ben McCann (The BIG MAKado) as the schoolboy at the centre of the maelstrom.

One of Australia's most successful cabaret exports!
Ali McGregor, the soprano who ran away with the circus has gone on to become one of our most successful cabaret exports.

Fresh from sell out tours of arts festival’s around the world, an ARIA nomination and a starring role in critically acclaimed Club Swizzle at the Opera House, Ali now brings her award winning show to Hayes
Theatre Co for one week from 21 to 26 April.

In 2005, after 5 years as a principal soprano with Opera Australia, Ali crept out of a sumptuous production of Manon into the Famous Spiegeltent in Melbourne and performed her arias to a rapturous late-night crowd of revelers. She then joined the sideshow burlesque ‘La Clique’ (that went on to become La Soiree) and travelled the globe lending her considerable vocal prowess to the burgeoning cabaret scene. She has gone on to release three studio albums (including the 2014 ARIA nominated JAZZAMATAZZ!), performed and won awards at international festivals in Edinburgh, Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and London and is fast becoming one of the most well respected members of the international Caberati.
In Alchemy, Ali merges her first two musical loves – jazz & trashy pop music. She draws on all of her influences from opera, cabaret, cock rock and questionable 80s divas for inspiration. Working alongside the finest jazz musicians, she creates unique hybrids from popular songs, standards and blues.
Expect to hear unique mashups and genre-defying versions of Madonna, Salt ‘n Pepa and Kiss, as though they were sung by a 40s siren in a Las Vegas jazz club.

“ How did they find the courage to fight on when so many of their friends lost their lives? “

“ How come they fought against each other yet became firm friends? “

“ What songs did they sing in the trenches about the war, their loved ones, their countries?”

In this musical event, you will experience:

- SONGS of the Turkish and ANZAC Soldiers
- SCENES with re-enactments from the war representing Australia and Turkish perspectives including the interactions between Australian and Turkish soldiers
- IMAGES from the Gallipoli campaign
