David Saffir - Brahms And Franck

Event Date: 06/03/2015, 07:00 pm

Resonance 2015 opening concert
David Saffir (violin) and Chris Cartner (piano) perform Brahms and Franck

Resonance is delighted to announce the opening programme in our new and exciting series for 2015.

One of Australia's leading violinists, David Saffir, launches the 2015 series with two of the most celebrated sonatas in the violin/piano repertoire.

The first sonata by Brahms is one of the most lyrical and heart-warming works by the German master. This is paired with the luscious, majestic and intensely dramatic sonata by French composer Ceasar Franck.

As always, our programmes run for up to one hour, and complimentary drinks receptions will take place at both Lavender Bay and Annadale. These are beautiful occasions, offering audiences to socialise in beautiful surroundings and chat with the artists.

An exciting new showcase festival of a Cappella music
An exciting new showcase festival of a Cappella (unaccompanied) music for vocal groups and choirs
of all shapes and sizes opens from 3 March at The Concourse Theatre, Chatswood.

Short+Sweet Voices is the newest star in the international short form performance festival’s galaxy
and debuts with a week of heats Tues-3 to Fri 6 March.

Groups perform a strictly imposed set up to 10 minutes maximum in front of celebrity and music industry judges – as well as submitting themselves to the People’s Choice – the audience vote!

The winners advance to the gala finals on Sat 21 March with honours and prizes on the line.

Festival Director and veteran arts personality Lenore Robertson said Short+Sweet Voices
would “stretch the boundaries of choral performance, rewarding innovation, excellence and creativity”.
It would be a great networking opportunity too, she said, and there are prizes and awards
for both individuals and groups in singing, vocal arrangement and presentation.

The inaugural festival has been leapt upon by more than 50 groups from all across Sydney… and well beyond.
They include Pop, Gospel, Barbershop, World, Cuban, African, Gaelic,
Arabic, Musical Theatre and even more eclectic genres.

Groups with names like Ecopella, Choir of Love, Isingonthecake, the Sea Naturals, Soulfood, Timbre Flaws, Unaccompanied Baggage, Treble Makers and the Cleftomaniacs will strut their stuff on the big stage.

All performances will be presented at the Concert Hall of The Concourse in Chatswood with a series
of heats 3-6 March climaxing in a Gala Final and Awards Night on Saturday 21 March (plus matinee)

The Chinese National Award-winning dance drama
State Theatre, Sydney
Wednesday 4 March and Thursday 5 March at 7.30pm

The Red Dress tells the touching love story of a young man and woman from two rich families in an ancient town in southern China. Sweethearts since they were young, they fall in love and then move apart. The promise of marriage makes the beautiful bride-to-be wait for years with her dream of a red wedding dress.
