Continuing his hugely popular monthly residency at Foundry616, Vince Jones, Australia’s leading jazz vocalist/composer, returns to the club with his unmistakable voice, thought provoking lyrics and subtle trumpet playing - and a band made up of some of Sydney's best jazz musicians to top it all off.

"Jones has always fielded top-shelf bands, and this one was no different, completed by bassist Brett Hirst and drummer James Hauptmann: players capable of pithy, arresting solos, and of blurring the rhythmic lines between the soul numbers and the jazzier ones. Peeping through it all from time to time came Jones's trumpet: almost shy, but – just like his singing – without artifice".

As a contemporary jazz singer, Jones is renowned for his subtle, heartfelt style combining jazz phrasing with soul-derived moves, and his repertoire combines jazz, blues, soul, folk and pop influences.

Experience Terence Rattigan's compelling drama
Terence Rattigan's compelling drama comes to the Genesian stage following its recent Broadway and West End revivals.

The year is 1911: Politicians fear a world war; businessmen are worried about striking workers; and suffragettes are agitating for the vote.
As England shifts inexorably into the modern world, one family faces a very personal drama that, in its own way, will shake the establishment.
A fresh production of Terence Rattigan's famous play, "The Winslow Boy", staged by Kent Street's Genesian Theatre, tells the story of Arthur Winslow's battle to save his son's honour, After learning that the Royal Naval College has expelled his son Ronnie for stealing a five shilling postal order, Winslow risks his fortune, his health and his family's tranquility when he seeks Parliament's permission to sue the Crown.
The play arises out of the celebrated trial in 1910 of George Archer-Shee, a 13 year old cadet at Osborne Naval College, accused of theft.
It explores the imposition of strict social codes of conduct and manners on individuals and what happens when they decide to challenge them , says director Nanette Frew I wanted to stage "The Winslow Boy" because it is a wonderful example of the phrase "Let Right be done" which is the basis of the whole fight for justice to which every man is entitled.

Operating for 70 years, the Genesians is Sydney's most professional non-professional theatre, boasting among its alumni the likes of Bryan Brown, Baz Lurhman, Christopher Stollery and John Bell.

"The Winslow Boy" opens on January 17th and runs until February 14th at the Genesian Theatre, in Kent Street, Sydney.

From the picturesque vantage point of the Snowy Mountains, Thredbo Blues Festival returns in 2015 with a star-studded Blues line-up. As part of Thredbo Village’s jam-packed summer event schedule, the festival –this year celebrating its 21st birthday – boasts the biggest and best line-up yet, with 22 acts spanning three days.

Thredbo’s annual musical celebration has become a regular summer pilgrimage for Blues lovers from
NSW, ACT and VIC alike. Each year in January, the scenic alpine village transforms into a jubilee as
Thredbo Blues Festival treats guests to incredible music set in the Snowy Mountains in summer. With a
combination of concert, intimate and poolside venues, the festival promises to deliver a unique experience
for festival-goers.Taking place 16th – 18th January 2015, the Thredbo Blues Festival will include performances from ARIA Hall of Fame inductee Russell Morris, ARIA Award winner Jeff Lang, Blues royalty Ray Beadle and multi-instrumentalist Rick Price plus many, many more. Festival Director Stewart Wauchop comments: “The 2015 Thredbo Blues is one of the best line-ups, and with Thredbo’s unique format it definitely provides an unrivalled experience for any music fan.”

Festival veteran and crowd favourite Jeff Lang, is extremely excited to be playing the event once again.
“I've been coming to Thredbo to play at the Blues Festival for 19 years now. I love how it feels as though the whole town has given itself over to music for the duration of the festival. The audiences are great too;the whole town is populated by people who love to hear live music. It's a different vibe from a typical festival and I always look forward to coming back to Thredbo to play”, says Lang.

The magic of Beauty and the Beast will come to the stage of Emu Sports Club from Wednesday 14th January. This adaptation promises to be magnificent entertainment. See the plot of this perennially popular fable unfold as Blotti enters the castle of the Beast. Blotti is an impoverished merchant and the Beast promises him riches if he will send Beauty, his youngest daughter to visit him.

Beauty’s goodness sees past the ugliness of the Beast. The purity of her love restores him to the handsome young prince he once was.
There will be colourful set and costume design by well known Leone Sharp. Everything from scenes of humour to an exciting duel with swords. Members of the audience – especially children – may like to meet the characters after the show.
Suitable for all ages.

the NOW now - Sydney’s mind-blowing annual festival of exploratory and improvised music -
returns in January 2015 with its biggest and wildest event yet – across 3 inner city venues.

The NOW now is an Artist Run Initiative that has been working since 2001 to present a diverse and unique
mix of exploratory, experimental, improvised, noise, sound-art, outsider, free, unpopular and
generally ‘other’ music at a range of venues and spaces in Sydney and greater NSW.

The work is spontaneous... and explosive!

The January festival is its annual highlight and showpiece. This year it boasts more than 50 performances
involving over 100 Australian and international artists over a 5 day period at the three brilliant Marrickville venues:
The Red Rattler, SNO Contemporary Art Projects and 55 Sydenham Rd.
