Now into its fourteenth year, Short+Sweet is moving to an exciting new location and will be bringing you over 160 brand new scripts from Australian and international writers, put together by the best up-and-coming and established directors and performed by veteran actors and fresh new talent.

The Bossa Nova is synonym of Love, Joy and Melancholy. On the 3rd of January, The French Caribbean singer Tricia Evy (currently touring Australia) invites you to travel to Brazil, through the wonderful melodies and arrangements of Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Joining her will be: Dan Barnett (Voice/Trombone), Richard Maegraith (Saxophone/Flute), Matt McMahon (Piano), Phil Stack (Double Bass), Anthony Howe (Drums).

This show (sold out in Paris last summer) is not to be missed.

Pulitzer Prize & Tony Award winning Hit Broadway Musical
Boasting the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and three Tony Awards including best musical score, Doorstep Arts in association with Hayes Theatre Co willpresent Next to Normal at Hayes Theatre Co from Thursday 8 January after a wildly successful season in Geelong earlier this year.

With poignant lyrics and a powerful contemporary rock score, Next to Normal is an insightful and fiercely honest story of love, loss and family life. Reprising her critically claimed role, Natalie O’Donnell (Mamma Mia, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), leads a superb cast as Diana, a troubled woman in danger of being engulfed by her past. Cathartic and ultimately uplifting, Next to Normal challenges us to ask the question, ‘What is normal?’
Joining Natalie in the cast are some of Australia’s finest musical theatre talent including Anthony Harkin (Avenue Q, Shane Warne The Musical), Alex Rathgeber (An Officer And A Gentleman, Fiddler on the Roof), Brent Trotter (Jersey Boys, Four Seasons In One Night), Kiane O’Farrell (Carrie: The Musical, 42nd Street) and Clay Roberts (CATS, Thoroughly Modern Millie).

Playing its Sydney professional premiere, Next to Normal was rated the Theatre People’s Choice for the number one production over its two-week Geelong season and Director Darylin Ramondo is excited to introduce this critically acclaimed production to a Sydney audience.

Returning to Foundry 616 for a great performance to wind up 2014, the Sydney Jazz Orchestra will be under the spotlight , showcasing the brilliant skills and musicianship of seventeen fabulous jazz and commercial players, drawn from the ranks of Sydney’s finest .

Under the uncompromising direction of saxophonist/composer/arranger Tim Oram, the band will feature its trademark superlative section and ensemble playing, and dazzling individual solos.

A fast moving repertoire draws from the music of world renowned composers and arrangers including Gio Washington-Wright, Weather Report, The Yellowjackets, Don Grolnick , Bob Mintzer, and Kenny Wheeler as well as acclaimed US keyboard player, arranger and producer Michael Abene . Highlighting the talent of Australian writing and arranging, the programme will include original music from Tim Oram and Richard Percival.

From start to finish every gig encompasses superlative section work, powerful and cohesive full ensemble playing, stunning individual soloists and brilliant arrangements from some of the world’s renowned writers, together with Tim Oram’s original material. This is an ensemble capable of changing musical gears without a hitch, from the fast and furious to undeniably lush and soothing sounds , taking the listener on a journey through a mood changing soundscape.

This is a gig not to be missed if you're seriously into the big band genre.

Frances has become one of Sydney’s most exciting and in-demand ‘popular jazz’ artists.

Described by ABC Classic FM’s Mal Stanley as ‘one to watch’, Frances is a sophisticated and classy vocalist, pianist and original songwriter.

Frances’ original songs, whether up-tempo swing, blues or ballads, have a natural fresh quality and universal charm that connects with her growing audience. Her distinctive interpretation of classics and jazz standards often goes beyond genre, reinforcing both her unique sound and a broad ‘adult contemporary’ appeal.

Frances regularly performs with her band at Sydney’s leading jazz venues - this is her second performance at Foundry616. Her band includes some of Australia’s finest up-and-coming young jazz musicians including 2014 Wangaratta Festival finalist Peter Koopman on guitar, James Heazlewood-Dale on double bass and Tim Geldens on drums. They attracted and thrilled a large crowd at the recent Manly Jazz Festival.

Frances grew up listening to Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Eva Cassidy and Ella Fitzgerald who she acknowledges amongst her influences. She studied classical piano while at school, later moving to contemporary music and jazz, and taking up singing after she finished. She then completed a Degree in Music Performance at the Australian Institute of Music. Since graduating at the end of 2010, Frances has established herself as a viable professional performing artist.
