It’s Comedy! It’s History! It’s the Impro Australia's THEATRESPORTS CRANSTON CUP!

Since 1985, the funniest comedians, actors, improvisers, writers and performers, have thrown away their scripts and stepped up the to the edge of the comedy cliff… and jumped off!

These comedy lemmings have swan-dived into the unknown, like ad-lib parachutists, like laughing lunatic base jumpers, freefalling with just their wits, their best one-liners and their craziest comic characters to save them from disaster!

And it’s all for your pleasure!

For nearly 30 years audiences have come along to belly laugh at the antics of these brave teams of comics as they either succeed or fail epically!

Every year, wave after wave of teams, scared scriptless and desperate to score big with the judges, play to win their way through the Heats, Semi-finals, and then all the way to the Enmore Theatre for the Grand Final, and the chance to engrave their names on the Theatresports Holy Grail, the Cranston Cup!

Each week they battle it out for the honour of being crowned the funniest, most inventive, most spontaneous and just sheer craziest performers in Australia!

The Honour Roll of Winners includes such famous names as Andrew O’Keefe, Andrew Denton, Josh Lawson, Rebecca De Unamuno, Jay Laga’aia, Jordan Raskopoulos, Geoff Kelso, Adam Spencer, Davd Callan, Marko Mustac, Ewan Campbell, Lisa Ricketts, Murray Fahey, Jon Williams and more!

Sweet Nothings

Event Date: 10/11/2013, 05:00 pm

Australian Premiere by David Harrower
"I write of love and death. What other subjects are there?"

Sweet Nothings by David Harrower after Arthur Schnitzler makes its Australian premiere at ATYP’s 2013 Under the Wharf program (7-23 November, 2013).

A man is having an affair with a married woman, terrified of what her husband may do if they are discovered. At a party, he charms a young woman who believes she's falling in love. Life seems beautiful. The doorbell rings. A husband enter the room.

Four young people risk everything in a tragic game of love, lust and adultery, exposing the restlessness of youth and the haunting consequences of a seemingly careless dalliance.

In a sexy and daring adaptation of Leibelie by Schnitzler (the writer who inspired 'Eyes Wide Shut'), David Harrower explores the power of sexual longing, the cruelty of tradition and the vulnerability of those in love.

Pantsguys return to Under The Wharf following their 2012 production of Punk Rock (Winner: Best Independent Production, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor 2012 Sydney Theatre Awards) with internationally acclaimed director, John Kachoyan (2012 Bell Shakespeare Director in Residence).

200 years of American Art
America: painting a nation

8 NOVEMBER 2013 – 9 FEBRUARY 2014

Part of the Sydney International Arts Series, this is the most expansive historical survey of American painting ever presented in Australia.

With over 85 works, ranging from 1750 to 1967,
the exhibition covers more than 200 years of American art, history and experience.

America: painting a nation includes artists such as Mary Cassatt, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, James McNeill Whistler, Georgia O’Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and John Singer Sargent.

The works have come from four major institutions in the USA: the Terra Foundation, Chicago; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has lent its major work, Edward Hopper’s House at dusk 1935. Most of the works have never been seen in Australia and the Art Gallery of New South Wales is the only Australian venue for this exhibition.

‘STAR STRUCK’ A LIVE CABARET TRIBUTE TO THE DIVAS
RAVE REVIEWS FROM TREVOR’S August show:-
“Musically, the show is Ashley’s best. It’s the perfect casino spectacular – both glamorous and irreverent...if Star Struck returns, go see it. It’s Ashley at his hilarious best and could be one of the best nights out you’ll ever have.” AussieTheatre.com

“Hits and covers by Cher, Liza Minnelli, Bette Midler, Shirley Bassey and Tina Turner became new hits in the show-stopping hands and heels of Ashley, the ‘Trevettes’ and band. A complete standing ovation was indication that this latest instalment deserves its history repeating.” Sydney Arts Guide

The brilliant Trevor Ashley returns in triumphant style to Sydney’s vibrant new entertainment venue, The Star Event Centre performing STAR STRUCK for one night only on Friday 8 November.

Trevor brings the great divas back with the high energy of Tina Turner, the madness of Bette Midler, the elegance of Shirley Bassey and the anthems of Cher – all channelled with the inimitable Ashley spin.

Accompanied by Elliot Wilshier with a hot live band, and joined by the dazzling Trevettes – two sexy dancers in a cavalcade of costumes – it’s everything you’d want to see from this “true star of the stage” on a scale that you’ve never seen before.

Trevor Ashley is often described as ‘the busiest man in Australian show-business’. This multi-talented writer, musical director, performer and producer made his musical debut in Priscilla Queen of the Desert – the Musical. This was followed with Gale Edward’s hit Jerry Springer the Opera. Most recently Trevor won accolades for his portrayal of Edna Turnblad in Hairspray.

With Phil Scott and Gretel Killeen onboard the jokes are sharp, the material as bawdy as ever and hysterical laughter is guaranteed.
