Not Quite Cabaret

Event Date: 04/10/2013, 08:00 pm

Not Quite Cabaret returns this Spring.
All seasons in 2012 were such a huge hit with our audience, that it would be a sin to not come back and do it all again. But this time, we've kicked the hilarity up a few levels. Not Quite Cabaret comes back with brand new sketches that will have you falling out of your seat with laughter.

What is Not Quite Cabaret? It's a fun night out with your friends and best mates! It's pub entertainment with a twist, it's a dinner theatre show like no other, but most importantly, it's a whole lot of fun that can be found right in the heart of Balmain.

In conjunction with the Exchange Hotel Balmain, Not Quite Cabaret presents a mix of hilarious short skits and sketches that transforms an ordinary Thursday or Friday night into one you won't easily forget. We're like no theatre production you've ever met before.
We like to call ourselves the "Evil Twin" of theatre. We keep it light and funny at Not Quite Cabaret, so leave the drama back at the office and come have a drink with us! We've got something for everybody!

It's Not Quite Cabaret but it sure is a whole lot of fun.

The Wharf Revue

Event Date: 03/10/2013, 08:00 pm

...razor-sharp satire & blend of side-splitting sketches
Written and created by Jonathan Biggins, Drew Forsythe and Phillip Scott

That singing, dancing extravaganza, The Wharf Revue, returns with bite for an annual dose of razor-sharp satire and special blend of side-splitting sketches and musical hilarity.

The mighty and ridiculous will duck for cover as The Wharf Revue team swoops in for another go at poking politics and popular culture in the eye with its carefully sharpened satire stick.

At least we can count on the Federal Election for delivering one good news story: the provision of plenty of new material for these talented satirists...Whoops! They know they can run, but they can’t hide - nothing and no-one will be spared! Combining a cast of colourful characters - Eddie Obeid, Ian Macdonald, Tony Abbott, Gina Rinehart, Clive Palmer, Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard still, along with their boisterous songs; the Wharf Revue will be packed full of up-to-the-minute satire which makes it such a hit year after year.

When Amanda Bishop, Simon Burke and Andrew Worboys join Jonathan Biggins and Drew Forsythe on stage it’s a guaranteed lark.

Theatresport Cranston Cup - Heat 1
It’s Comedy! It’s History! It’s the Impro Australia's THEATRESPORTS CRANSTON CUP!

Since 1985, the funniest comedians, actors, improvisers, writers and performers, have thrown away their scripts and stepped up the to the edge of the comedy cliff… and jumped off!

These comedy lemmings have swan-dived into the unknown, like ad-lib parachutists, like laughing lunatic base jumpers, freefalling with just their wits, their best one-liners and their craziest comic characters to save them from disaster!

And it’s all for your pleasure!

For nearly 30 years audiences have come along to belly laugh at the antics of these brave teams of comics as they either succeed or fail epically!

Every year, wave after wave of teams, scared scriptless and desperate to score big with the judges, play to win their way through the Heats, Semi-finals, and then all the way to the Enmore Theatre for the Grand Final, and the chance to engrave their names on the Theatresports Holy Grail, the Cranston Cup!

Each week they battle it out for the honour of being crowned the funniest, most inventive, most spontaneous and just sheer craziest performers in Australia!

The Honour Roll of Winners includes such famous names as Andrew O’Keefe, Andrew Denton, Josh Lawson, Rebecca De Unamuno, Jay Laga’aia, Jordan Raskopoulos, Geoff Kelso, Adam Spencer, Davd Callan, Marko Mustac, Ewan Campbell, Lisa Ricketts, Murray Fahey, Jon Williams and more!

Chatswood Musical Society brings FAME to life on the northside
One of the great Broadway musicals ever hits the north shore in October when Chatswood Musical Society brings '80s blockbuster FAME to life on the northside.

With a cast choc-full of local talent, the earthy and energised hit is based on the Academy-award-winning movie and includes the thrilling title song that won an Oscar for Irene Cara.

Set in the NYC High School of Performing Arts where talent is gold, the harsh truth is that only blood, sweat and tears can realise young dreams of stardom. Long before Glee or reality TV, there was FAME. Don't miss it!

The Conductor & The Clown

Event Date: 01/10/2013, 01:00 pm

This is a wonderfully hilarious orchestral show for families
George Washingmachine and George Ellis

With the 12 piece CONDUCTOR AND THE CLOWN ORCHESTRA

Who’s the main act – the serious classical Conductor or the cheeky Clown whose aim is to conduct the orchestra?

See how the Clown tried to trick the Conductor off the stage.

With all the Clown’s hilarious antics, can the two ever become friends?

George Ellis

George Ellis is an exciting musician who is rapidly emerging as one of today’s most talented Australian conductors. His extensive academic training in conducting, composition and arranging, in Australia and overseas, and a wide range of experience has enabled Ellis to develop the unique talent essential for sensitively traversing a broad range of musical genres. One of George Ellis’s first conducting jobs was presenting a children’s concert with the Sydney Youth Orchestra in Orange, NSW. From there he worked as assistant conductor to Simone Young at Opera Australia. He then landed the job of reviving and developing the Babies Proms series. This led to work across Australia and overseas. Ellis cites the most inspiring experience of his career was conducting the Sydney Symphony at the Sydney Olympics opening ceremony.

George Washingmachine

George has had a vast and varied career in the entertainment business, as a musician, actor and comedian. He is a multi-instrumentalist – proficient on double bass, guitar or anything with strings. George has written everything from rock and roll nursery rhymes for Mr Squiggle to music for the Bell Shakespeare Company. George formed rhythm & blues band, The Dead Wringers and in 1984 he played jazz fiddle with The Conway Brothers Hiccup Orchestra and performed with Graham Bond in the stage show “Captain Bloody”.

Equus

Event Date: 26/09/2013, 06:30 pm

Equus is a two act play by British playwright Sir Peter Shaffer.
The British play Equus, by Sir Peter Shaffer was first produced at the National Theatre in London on July 26 1973. 40 years later the impact the play has on audiences is still as strong as it was when first produced. The universality of some of the plays themes: crime, religion, the media, coming of age and identity, drive the play through a narrative that is mysterious, captivating, unnerving and breathtaking. A narrative that audiences can't help but connect with. This is one of the great plays centering around youth in society. A 2007 - 2009 London revival which transferred to Broadway starred Daniel Radcliffe and the late Richard Grif?ths. You are invited to share in the celebration and excitement of this theatrical experience.

"As a story, it is compelling...Shaffer...creates an exciting spectacle...an exciting, unusual theatrical event."
Michael Billington, The Guardian.
