Nic Jeffries has a reputation as a one of this countries finest vocalists. With a warm, rich tone in his voice that has been described as 'like chocolate', not to mention his notable abilities on the saxophone, he is carving out a career on the Australian music scene the 'old fashioned way'. Having released his debut album to high acclaim in 2011, he has spent the last couple of years performing for festivals across the country, as well as performing as a featured vocalist with Australian Jazz legend James Morrison & more recently as a side man with Steve Clisby.

For his debut performance at Foundry 616, Nic will be joined by an exceptional rhythm section featuring Marcello Maio on piano, Alex Boneham on double bass & special guest Ben Vanderwal (WA) on drums. The band will be performing and exploring arrangements from Jeffries' debut release as well as performing some new material soon to be recorded for his second album.

Exciting and accessible modern jazz
HAMMERHEAD offers a take on the Hard Bop tradition. Inspired by Art Blakey and his Jazz Messengers, Hammerhead inject more of the laid back feel of the soul jazz that sprang from the same source. The music is a melange of who created bebop, rhythm and blues, and gospel and it has that good time feel of the popular jazz that was played in black bars and night clubs across America.

The material is a drawn from the Messengers book - including Penastiva, The Summit and Mozaic - but also includes some original compositions that pay homage to the classic Messengers sound while reflecting a contemporary approach.

The band includes fine musicians several of whom - like alto saxophonist Andrew, Robertson, trumpet player Todd Hardy and drummer Duncan Archibald - have flown under the jazz public's radar but whose status amongst their peers is very high. Add to that the exciting work of the Bruer brothers an the somewhat younger but hugely talented Alex Boneham and you've got quite a band.

Hammerhead peels back the layers of jazz, playing with soul and instrumental savvy. It's exciting and accessible modern jazz.

The Laugh Stand relaunches comedy icon Harold Park Hotel
After a successful year in the Eastern Suburbs, comedy event The Laugh Stand is expanding, with the relaunch of a comedy icon, the Harold Park Hotel in Glebe.

In the 80’s and 90’s the Harold Park Hotel was the go to place for exciting live comedy and played host to true Australian and International superstars, including; Robin Williams, Ben Elton, Tom Gleeson, Adam Hills, Greg Fleet, Jimeoin, Merrick and Rosso, and more.

The Laugh Stand is ready to relaunch Harold Park as a monthly event, and we have one hell of a kick off in store.

Your Emcee is Lindsay Webb (QLD).
Lindsay is widely known as one of the best, if not THE best Emcee in the business.
He has been on TV shows, like ‘Good News Week’ and ‘The Footy Show’, has been ‘the funny bloke’ on the Sea FM Morning Crew (QLD) and has toured sold out Festival shows around Australia and New Zealand.

What better way to relaunch a comedy icon, than with a comedy icon? Your Headliner is the one and only Tommy Dean. Arizona-raised, and now a Sydney resident for 16 years, the very sharp witted American comedian is the ‘golden-boy’ of Australian TV, radio and corporate events. You would have seen him on ‘Good News Week’, ‘Spicks and Specks’ and ‘Rove Live’, and hear him regularly on ‘Thank God It’s Friday’ on ABC 702 Sydney. “a consummate master of timing,” Australian Stage.

Lindsay and Tommy will be joined by Darren Sanders, the host of ‘The Darren Sanders Show’ on GO, as well as Sydney’s best rising stars: Nick Capper, Dane Hiser, Scott Dettrick, Michele Betts, Jared Jekyll and Andrew Wolfe.

The Tin Ring: A Performance By Artist Jane...

A play based on a Holocaust survivor’s memoir.
The Tin Ring is a dramatisation of Holocaust survival based on a written autobiographical account by Zdenka Fantlová originated and adapted for performance by Arnfield and international theatre director Mike Alfreds in 2011.

Funded by Arts Council England it was premiered at The Lowry Salford and has performed nationally and internationally since 2011 in both the research phase of a thirty minute performance to the full phase of sixty eight minutes from Speakers House Westminster to Summerhall Edinburgh Fringe August 2013 selected as part of the British Council International Showcase. Performances delivered to date are approaching one hundred and growing.

The underlying research is concerned with witness testimonies as an interpretive tool, and developed within a performance context in order to reflect upon the life experience of victims and perpetrators of crisis.

The Tin Ring developed from a reflective process which sought to better understand the process and efficacy of verbatim testimony as an efficacious route towards improved understanding of the causes and consequences of genocide and mass violence. The methods undertaken to mediate this testimonial of survival included identifying its distinctiveness through text excavation and transposing these testimonials into a live theatrical setting, reshaping the original encounter through different phases; detailing how first-hand testimony can be transferred from the host (Fantlova) to the first surrogate (the performer Arnfield) and transmitted onto the group surrogate (the audience).
