Strathfield Symphony Orchestra presents Firebird
Join Strathfield Symphony for their final concert of the year.

From the ethereal serenity of Mozart’s Serenade for 13 Wind Instruments and the luscious Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings to the sparkle of Stravinsky’s Firebird, Strathfield Symphony’s last program for 2013 will be a feast for the ears.

Mozart’s Serenade K361 (“Gran Partita”) featured in the film Amadeus, the haunting oboe and clarinet theme one of its most moving moments.

Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, a tribute to Mozart, who was adored by Tchaikovsky above all other composers, remains one of the late Romantic era’s most definitive and best loved compositions.



“The Firebird” made Stravinsky famous throughout the world, its brilliance heralding a major figure of the twentieth century. It remains one of his most popular works.

200 years of American Art
America: painting a nation

8 NOVEMBER 2013 – 9 FEBRUARY 2014



Part of the Sydney International Arts Series, this is the most expansive historical survey of American painting ever presented in Australia.

With over 85 works, ranging from 1750 to 1967,
the exhibition covers more than 200 years of American art, history and experience.



America: painting a nation includes artists such as Mary Cassatt, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, James McNeill Whistler, Georgia O’Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and John Singer Sargent.



The works have come from four major institutions in the USA: the Terra Foundation, Chicago; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.



The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has lent its major work, Edward Hopper’s House at dusk 1935. Most of the works have never been seen in Australia and the Art Gallery of New South Wales is the only Australian venue for this exhibition.

At The Train Shed, you can ride with:

The ride takes you across the bridge over the pond, past "Gnome Knoll", "Trevor" and "Crock's Scrapyard", across the bridge again, down around the "Branch Line", through the tunnel and back up to Wellsworth Station.

There's more than just Train Rides at The Train Shed!


Inside the Thomas Shop, children (and adults who refuse to grow up) can drive the Model Train Layout all by themselves, taking Thomas, Toby, James or Percy on a tour of the Isle of Sodor, making up their own
"Thomas" stories while they play.



When you arrive at The Train Shed, you simply can't miss our Sydney Suburban Double-Decker Carriage - yes, it's a real one! Many parents may remember travelling on carriages like these when they were younger.



The double-pass is for two children and gives each child 4 train rides.

Tyrannosaurs, exclusive to the Australian Museum in Sydney, is the first exhibition in the world to shine a light on this legendary dinosaur family. If you thought you knew tyrannosaurs, think again.



In a world first, the Australian Museum presents Tyrannosaurs – Meet the Family, an innovative, multimedia experience showcasing the newly-revised tyrannosaur family tree. With over 10 life-sized dinosaur specimens on display, including one of the oldest tyrannosaurs, Guanlong wucaii, the exhibition runs from 23 November 2013 to 27 July 2014.



Showcasing a dramatic array of fossils and casts of tyrannosaur specimens, including never- before-seen specimens from China, Tyrannosaurs – Meet the Family is designed to provide a snapshot of dinosaur life and show how this group became the world’s top predators with their massive skulls, powerful jaws and bone-crunching teeth.



With many family activities included, key highlights of the exhibition are:

• An Australian-first immersive multimedia experience featuring large-scale, immersive projections of dinosaurs running through Sydney streets

• The first exhibition to showcase the revised tyrannosaur family tree

Semoyan is unemployed and poor, he lives in the hall of a cramped apartment because his mother-in-law has the bedroom, and he’s fed up.



When his last hope for self-respect disappears, Semoyan decides to take his own life. But word gets out and he finds himself besieged by sympathetic visitors – all begging him to kill himself on their behalf!



However, as everyone gathers for a wild, vodka-fuelled celebration on the night of his intended demise, there’s one small problem: Semoyan is having second thoughts.
