Passionfruit Trio is an electro-acoustic guitar/piano/percussion group.
Passionfruit Trio is an electro-acoustic guitar/piano/percussion group that engages its
audience with infectious rhythms, compelling melodies and inspired improvisations through a unique exploration of Afro-Brazilian-jazz-funk possibilities.



Their performances have drawn praise such as: "Electrifying" John Shand, S.M.H.

Audiences have described the trio performances as ‘superlative’ or with comments such as ‘your music makes me happy’.



The trio is made up of three outstanding musicians in multi-awarded master guitarist/composer Guy Strazz, renowned pianist/composer Matt McMahon and percussionist/composer Fabian Hevia. Repertoire includes works by Miles Davis, Tania Maria, Gismonti, Pixinguinha, Hermeto and originals by the trio. Guest singers with the band include Edo Santoni and Anna Salleh. Passionfruit Trio will debut a collaborative recording in 2014.

The Royal Opera presents Verdi’s grand opera Les Vêpres siciliennes.


In this major new production, Sir Antonio Pappano conducts a star cast that includes Bryan Hymel, Lianna Haroutounian, Erwin Schrott and Michael Volle.


Written for Paris Opéra itself in 1855, this imaginative production is interpreted by celebrated director Stefan Herheim, in his and the productions Covent Garden debut. The story is set to impassioned and dramatic music, rich in showpiece arias and ensembles and with striking choruses.



Through this monumental operatic work, Herheim takes us over the threshold from the reality of the opera house into the dreamlike stories of the operas they present.


NOTE:

The double-pass is valid for any screening on 29.11, 30.11, 01.12 and 04.12.

The tickets will be available for you at the box office, 30 minutes before the event.

Marcello Maio Trio

Jazz and Brazilian/ Latin influenced music
Marcello Maio has become a bit of cult figure on the Sydney music scene. He can't be categorised as he slips from straight jazz to more Brazilian and other Latin influenced musics with astonishing confidence and facility. Whether on piano or keyboards or accordion, he plays with imagination and flair, always sounding authentic. His rhythm section for this gig is a killer.



Fresh off an interstate and international tour with soul preserver Cody ChesnuTT, Marcello is keen to reconcile his recent musical experiences in the piano trio format with two esteemed colleagues. With a bunch of new originals and a few obscurities Marcello will be joined by Jonathan Zwartz and James Waples who need little introduction to the scene.



Marcello has been busy performing regularly with Baby et Lulu, Brazilian trio Abuka, and other regular jazz gigs including a run of shows with the legendary jazz ensemble 'The Catholics'.
There is an abundance of world class talent amongst pianists and piano trio's locally in Sydney. The Marcello Maio Trio hopes to add to that landscape promising to say something with personality and passion.
