The Laugh Stand at Harold Park Hotel has played host to many comedic legends this year. Adding to that prestigious list is your headliner for Tuesday 2 September: old-school Aussie comedy icon, George Smilovici.

Since topping the Australian and NZ music charts, and USA comedy charts with his hilarious hit monologue, ‘I’m Tuff’, George has had a significant influence on Australian comedy. He has toured all over the world, played stadiums, been all over TV (‘Hey Hey It’s Saturday’, ‘The Footy Show’, Stand Up Australia’ etc), performed for the troops, written ads and columns, shared the stage with rock legends (Joe Cocker, Talking Heads, James Reyne and more), and brought the house down for the biggest corporate clients in the world. He is a comedy icon and we are thrilled to have him at our very own comedy icon, Harold Park Hotel.

Your Emcee is the multitalented radio broadcaster (most often heard on Triple M), corporate Emcee, writer and comedian, Chris North. Chris comes from a background of over 11 years in commercial broadcasting and has significantly shaped the landscape of Australian radio and television. Chris was the Studio Anchor and Executive Producer on the phenomenally successful drive-time radio show, ‘Merrick and the Highway Patrol’ on Triple M. Since being a National Raw Comedy Finalist in 2003, Chris has sold out seasons at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and cemented himself as an in-demand Emcee and comic.

Your Feature Support in the insanely talented rising star Matty B, who has garnered the praise of comedy audiences, festival goers, reviewers and big name comics across the country. He has just released his debut, critically acclaimed CD, ‘Philosophical Bogan’.

Treasures from the Museum’s car collection out from the vaults

The Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences will for the first time showcase its extraordinary car collection in a new display at the Powerhouse Museum.

AUTO OBSESSION is part of a new Re-Collection project to ensure greater public access to the Museum’s rich collection.

Featuring over 25 restored and original historic cars, AUTO OBSESSION comprises a curious, eclectic and fascinating collection from luxury tourers and family sedans to racing and sports cars.
Also on display will be the Museum’s extensive collection of Matchbox cars, arguably the largest such collection in Australia. It has been claimed that in the halcyon days of Matchbox in the 1960s, Australians
purchased more of the little die-cast toy cars per capita than any other country.

“Auto Obsession highlights our love affair and lifelong obsession with cars. It is fitting that a car show is the first in our new Re-Collection series where we will bring the Museum’s extraordinary collection out of the vaults and on public display,” said Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences Director, Rose Hiscock.

Many of the cars in AUTO OBSESSION are time capsules of automotive history, having had little work done on them other than to preserve them in carefully monitored storage conditions. They can be compared to the much sort-after "barn find" cars in the current collector market.

The allure of the new exhibition space, The Kensington Room, on the ground floor of the new Royal Randwick Grandstand, is sure to attract visitors who will be keen to visit our well-established fair in a new and exciting venue.

We will be returning to this impressive and superbly appointed facility and visitors will be able to access the most diverse range of antiques, Art Nouveau, Art Deco & other select 20th century pieces in Sydney, in the one place, at the one time. With exhibitors coming from all states of Australia they will bring the very best of centuries old pieces up to the modern day, sourced by our members throughout Australia and from all over the world. Although our emphasis is on showcasing antiques we do allow individual contemporary items of particular quality and merit.

Items being offered for sale at the fair will be fully vetted for authenticity and backed by the reputation of Australia’s finest antique and art dealers, members of the AAADA.

Royal Randwick is a 10 minute journey from the airport, in close proximity to the CBD, plus has the added convenience of free onsite parking.

On Wednesday 30 July at The Concourse Theatre, Chatswood eleven outstanding young opera and classical singers all aged under 26 years sang their hearts out in front of National Adjudicator Jeffrey Black to be selected as one of five finalists who will compete in this year’s IFAC Australian Singing Competition.
This year there are two finalists from Victoria, 24 year old sopranos KATE AMOS and ANNA VOSHEGE, two sopranos from Western Australia, 23 year old SAMANTHA CLARKE and 24 year old CORINNE COWLING and 23 year old Soprano ISABELLA MOORE from New Zealand.
The five finalists will compete in the Finals Concert at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music on SATURDAY 30 AUGUST.
