CJ Delling - REALITY BANDIT

Event Date: 13/09/2014, 07:00 pm

A show you could take your mum, first date or dentist to!
Direct from the Adelaide Fringe and Melbourne International Comedy Festivals, CJ Delling’s hilarious show “Reality Bandit” makes its Sydney debut at the Den (in the Chippendale Hotel) as part of Sydney Fringe 2014.

German-born Sydney based comedian CJ has played comedy clubs in Europe, Scotland, Canada and the US… and even does a weekly German language satirical news show on SBS Radio.

CJ planned to visit Australia for 6 months study, but 10 years later (including 6 years as a volunteer surf lifesaver at Bondi Beach) and she’s still here!

“I’ve swapped the sun and the surf for the bright stage footlights – thankfully I don’t have to apply sunscreen to hairy backs anymore!”

After her previous hit shows “Life is Wunderbar (individual results may vary)” and “Tomorrow’s Weather and other predictive errors”, Reality Bandit is set to win your heart.

If you are looking for a show you could take your mum, first date or dentist to, then look no further! CJ’s quirky, charming and cheerful show is an expedition into our relationship with reality, truth, biases – and other problems we didn’t even know we had.

“Real life would be more like our Facebook status updates, if only we weren’t distracted all the time,” says CJ. She likes to point out what is ridiculous in our world - and peppers it with personal stories.

“But just because I’m holding the microphone doesn’t mean I have it all figured out. I’m easily distracted too… look at my tweets!”

Event Date: 12/09/2014, 08:30 pm

6 piece funk band from Sydney
Sydney funk band JUNK emerge deep from the funk cave this Spring at Foundry616.

JUNK are a 6 piece funk band from Sydney. Since 2009, JUNK have been putting a contemporary spin on funk, RnB and hip-hop. With a bangin’ brass section and sexy as hell vocals, JUNK are ready to completely seduce audiences with their grooves.

2013 was a huge year - JUNK's 2nd EP was launched at the Vanguard to a sold-out crowd. With this EP the band adopted a more refined sound with the help of producer Ross Feraro of REC studios. The new tunes featured deep RnB grooves with a focus on melody whilst keeping true to their original sound.

The band has been composing a volley of brand new tunes to unleash on an unsuspecting public. Get down to Foundry616 for a solid night of Funk.

John Knowles - Storytiller

Event Date: 11/09/2014, 08:15 pm

OMFG. (Oh My Freaking Gosh!*) It’s all true…
Award-winning Canadian-born Sydney comic JOHN KNOWLES brings his bizarre and hilarious, tall but true tales to the Sydney Fringe Comedy Festival.
It’s “Storytiller” and it plays 11, 13 and 14 September at The Factory.

John Knowles has worked as a comedian, writer and chlorine salesman in Sydney ever since German sailors put him off the Hamburg Sud container ship he had called home for six weeks on the high seas.

John has ‘inadvertently’ sent three people to hospital with stab wounds. He has worked as a professional Kermit the Frog impersonator. His wife Ronelle is one of 16 chidren (plus a foster child). While John was working nights at a dubious family business called Swanky Franky’s, John’s dad was out drinking and deep-sea fishing with Johnny Carson and selling jet-skis to Haiti’s dictator, Baby Doc Duvalier. (The blue fin tuna in the photo above was caught by Carson on that trip - then stuffed and mounted.) John was expelled in grade 11 for sneaking a chainsaw into his high school and surprising a rival by cutting his guitar in two. A proud father himself, John constantly tries to make his four young children laugh, to which they often reply. “Don’t give up your day job Dad”. His day job is being their carer.

John hoards stories. He can’t help it. Name any topic. It’ll remind him of a true story. Most are funny, some are chilling and others just plain odd. The show is directed by George ‘Rev Slim Limits’ Catsi.

Year Of The Abbott

Event Date: 06/09/2014, 08:30 pm

All the horror, history and hysteria we simply can’t forget… or forgive
Join Timothy Hugh Govers and Shane Addison at the Chippendale Hotel as they fondly recall every
political gaffe, blunder and resignation of the 12 months following the 2013 General Election.

In just 60 minutes they examine potential ways to rejuvenate the Prime Minister’s flagging popularity,
attempt to reform the education curriculum and draw the audience’s attention to the most brazenly inaccurate predictions made by the media since September 7 last year.

They will be joined on stage by impressionists Nathan Lentern and Jonas Holt as well as Brent Thorpe’s original creation “Deidre Flick” (self-funded retiree from Mosman.)

Year of the Abbott is an irreverent and playful celebration of the eccentricities and paradoxes that dominate Australian political life. It’s a winner… by a landslide!

Out Of Fear

Event Date: 05/09/2014, 07:00 pm

An exciting new theatre company with a provocative Australian play
An exciting new theatre company launches this September with a provocative new
Australian play throwing love, divorce and isolation into the spotlight.

“You work all your life for that bit of string, without compromise because we see
what we supposedly want, but in the end it’s nothing, there’s no more string.”

Out of Fear portrays savage personal disasters when life does not meet expectations.
Witkop’s play is a psychological exposition of a man trapped by his own guilt and delusion.
