2016 IFAC Australian Singing Competition Finals...
Event Date: 18/08/2016, 07:00 pm
Five singers have been selected to compete in the Finals Concert
For a fraction of the cost of a ticket to the opera you can enjoy an evening of the finest classical singers who will be accompanied by the Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra under the baton of dynamic conductor Benjamin Northey.
These five bright operatic stars will compete for over $200,000 in prizes and opportunities including ‘The Mathy’, the most prestigious award given to a young opera singer. This year there are three finalists from NSW including 25 year old counter tenor Nicholas Tolputt, 24 year old soprano Sarah Wang, 23 year old soprano Morgan Balfour and from New Zealand 22 year old soprano Eliza Boom and 25 year old baritone Jarvis Dams.
Nearly 90 singers from Australia and New Zealand auditioned. This year the Finals Concert will be judged by National Adjudicator Lyndon Terracini AM along with fellow judges Conal Coad, Emma Matthews, Linnhe Robertson and Benjamin Schwartz.
The IFAC Australian Singing Competition for opera and classical singers is Australasia’s premier competition and the richest of its kind. Since 1982 more than $3 million in prizes has been won with nearly 3,500 singers shining in the spotlight.
