The doggie athleticism will continue with a World Record Attempt at Extreme Dog High Jump, featuring pooches from the Australian Working Dog Rescue who will be hoping to break the current record held by Australian Dog ‘Bailey’ who cleared 2.951-metres at the Casterton Kelpie Muster in Victoria last June.
And there will be heaps and heaps more.

THE POST-HASTE HISTORIES

Event Date: 04/08/2016, 08:00 pm

The latest offering from Sydney’s improvising Shakespeare gurus is not just for laughs.
The Mermaid Tavern, London, 1592. Five Elizabethans, braced against the winter chill, hunker down for a long night of heavy drinking.
And as the sack and ale flow, they begin to tell a story from England’s troubled past.
Soon battlelines are drawn, allegiances are exchanged, friendships are tested and families destroyed.
These are THE POST-HASTE HISTORIES.
From the creators of Bard to the Bone, last seen at a sold out run at the Old Fitz Theatre,
comes the next epic addition to the improvised Shakespeare cannon, The Post-Haste Histories.

“Shakespeare’s history plays are so direct and exciting,” says director and performer Oliver Burton.
“They’re epic stories, grand and yet wonderfully domestic, filled with danger at every turn. They’re perfect for the high-risk world of impro.”

Formed five year ago by some of Sydney’s most experienced improvisers, The Post-Haste Players are
pushing for recognition of impro as a thrilling theatrical art form in its own right.

“Too often impro is thought of as purely comic or as simply a rehearsal room process,” says Burton, “but my favourite moments of theatre happen
when an actor must respond to something unexpected. In impro every thought is new and each reaction is authentic.”

“That’s something Netflix simply can’t offer: the reality of an actor responding for the first time.
Every performance, every moment is unique, shared only by the people who are in the room. That’s special. And it’s worth leaving the couch for!”

For Burton, improvisation is also attractive for being so democratic. “It’s deeply egalitarian,” he says.
“As director, I guide the style of performance, but once a scene is being played it’s up to all of us to weigh in with equal creativity.”

The Justin Yap Band

Event Date: 21/07/2016, 09:00 pm

The Justin Yap Band Releases ‘Let Love’ and Hits The Road
Having completed the Melbourne leg of their tour, funky Victorians The Justin Yap Band are headed north of the border this July to get audiences in Sydney and surrounds acquainted with their new album ‘Let Love’.

The Justin Yap Band weaves seamlessly through soul, funk and blues - drawing influences from the sounds of Muscle Shoals, New Orleans, and 70's soul. The band place tone, vibe, and performance above clinical perfection - and this feeling has seen Yap and his crew position themselves as ‘ones to watch’ in the busy Melbourne live scene.

Everyone who worked on ‘Let Love’ has approached the project with love and integrity - and this dedication comes straight through on every part of the record - in the opening notes; in the luscious production by Fraser Montgomery and Nick Edin; in Adam Dempsey’s mastering job, and in James Grim’s cover design.

Almost Nearly Paradise

Event Date: 22/07/2016, 07:30 pm

It's not almost, it is definitely paradise
The prize is for tickets and a glass of wine!

A bookclub meets on a beautiful island in the Pittwater. The alcohol flows, and the night becomes a goldmine of dangerous revelations. Then Australia's 48th richest man rolls up and everyone's true nature emerges from the water like a circling shark!"
The Factory Space Theatre Company creates an experience for the audience that is entertaining and engaging with never a dull moment. This entrancing tale spun beautifully by Brenda Gottsche and directed by Ros Riley.
A group of Pittwater women, each their own unique person, take the plunge and join the local book club. There are books, boats, mobiles, wine and money. You feel there. The naturalness of the characters brings the location cleverly to life. It's a great taste of what this theatre company can produce.
This style of local pub, or festival stage theatre presents works that are well worth viewing and much better than a night at home watching the telly.
Make the effort and get out and partake in the local theatre scene." Weekend notes

Drift

Event Date: 22/07/2016, 07:00 pm

DRIFT at ATYP Theatre, Sydney
The only solution to grief is to grieve. It’s as simple as that. You just have to grit your teeth and go through it.

You can try to bury it; to stow it away in the darkest cavities
inside you, but grief grows thick and wet like moss in the dark.

You can try to ignore it, or pretend you don’t know it, but sooner or later it shows up on your doorstep, bags
packed and intending on staying a while.

You can try to drown it, but you can be assured that it will swim.

The only way to learn this, is to have something to grieve for.

Drift is a brand new play by Tara Clark and Kieran Foster, opening at ATYP July 22nd. Performed by Ayeesha Ash, Challito Browne, Olivia Jubb, Adam Kovarik, Alex Packard and Lauren Pegus.
