The Great
Event Date: 20/08/2016, 08:00 pm
Glenn Christensen returns for the fourth MET Concert for 2016.
Glenn is a member of the Lyrebird Trio who last performed with The Metropolitan Orchestra in 2014. In this upcoming performance, Glenn will expose his profound passion and flair as soloist for Beethoven's most famous and unsurpassed Violin Concerto. "We are so honoured to have this inspirational young Australian violinist back with us as soloist for this concert. Glenn is a good friend and absolute joy to work with. His obvious passion, joyful style and technical elegance perfectly compliment our orchestra," said Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace.
The second half of this performance features Franz Schubert's majestically soaring Symphony No 9, also known as The Great which was the final symphony completed by Schubert. The symphony begins with a noble, reflective and grandiose theme depicting a sense of space which has helped give the symphony its nickname the "Great C Major". With a Finale boasting an urgent, relentless momentum along with a choral movement reflective of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, this high-spirited performance will enthral listeners, drawing them along from the first noble theme through to the last joyous note.
