Equal Runner Up, Best Script, FAW National Literary awards, 2015.
Refugees are “dirty skunks”. Thrown into processing centres, they face deportation at a moment’s notice. Teams scour the country searching for skunks and the ‘handlers’ protecting them. Informers are everywhere. In one night the masks and motivations of skunks and handlers alike are stripped away. The ending will surprise and subvert audience assumptions.

THE LAST FIVE YEARS is a contemporary song-cycle musical that ingeniously chronicles the five year
Lane Cove Theatre Company follows up its recent hit productions of Away, Godspell and The Vagina Monologues with a timely
musical theatre ‘two-hander’ that is (simultaneously) the first and last word on relationships… and all in magnificent song!
Written by Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Songs For A New World), THE LAST FIVE YEARS is a contemporary song-cycle musical that
ingeniously chronicles the five year life of a marriage, from meeting to break-up... or from break-up to meeting, depending on how you look at it.

Cathy and Jamie's relationship has lasted five years. As the story begins, Jamie (Brent Dolahenty of Ryde) is at the beginning of the relationship
and Cathy (Belinda Humphries of Lane Cove) is at the end. With inter-cutting scenes, we watch Jamie move forward in time as Cathy moves backward.

Funny, honest, and intimate, and with an exuberantly romantic score, THE LAST FIVE YEARS
takes a bold look at one young couple’s hope that love endures the test of time.

Lane Cove Theatre Company’s all new production is directed by Lochie Beh (Lane Cove) and stars Belinda Humphries (Lane Cove) as Cathy
and Brent Dolahenty (Ryde) as Jamie. Musical director is Keiren Brandt-Sawdy (Sutherland).

Beethoven, Brahms And Tommy Tycho

Beethoven, Brahms & Tommy Tycho Violin Concerto: Balmain Sinfonia debuts at its new home.
Beethoven, Brahms & Tommy Tycho Violin Concerto:
Balmain Sinfonia debuts at its new home in Leichhardt.

The Balmain Sinfonia returns to its inner west heartland and a new home when it performs
for the first time at the Italian Forum in Leichhardt on Sat 6 August.

The Saturday afternoon 5pm concert features Brahms’ Symphony No.1, the popular Beethoven Leonore Overture and star violin soloist
Maria Lindsay playing Tommy Tycho’s Violin Concerto – a piece written for her by the legendary Australian maestro.
The Balmain Sinfonia was founded in 1991 by its artistic director and conductor Gary Stavrou.

Originally performing in Rozelle and Balmain, in recent years it has been Macquarie University’s resident orchestra.
Now it returns to its heartland and a new home in the lively, colourful and charming Italian Forum
with its comfortable and well-appointed auditorium and surrounding restaurants, bars and shops.

Stavrou said the move to the Italian Forum was very exciting and would improve audiences' experience
with excellent lighting and acoustics as well as the delightful restaurants and cafes nearby.
The Saturday 5pm timing was chosen specifically to suit dining and parking options.

Of the program he said new and returning fans of the orchestra would enjoy a varied ‘treat’.
He described the Leonore Overture of Beethoven as ‘a miracle of dramatic music’.
“This rollercoaster of a work covers enormous emotional range from the poetic to the utterly heroic.”

In the Brahms’ Symphony the orchestra promises a work “inexhaustible in its power to thrill and transport listeners”.

Tommy Tycho’s violin concerto is an Australian work with influences derived from the composer’s native Hungary as well as Russian and Persian themes from his time as personal pianist to the Shah of Iran.
Tycho was also musical director at Channel 7 for 15 years, directed countless Royal Command Performances and conducted all ABC Symphony orchestras before his death in 2013.

THE POST-HASTE HISTORIES

Event Date: 04/08/2016, 08:00 pm

The latest offering from Sydney’s improvising Shakespeare gurus is not just for laughs.
The Mermaid Tavern, London, 1592. Five Elizabethans, braced against the winter chill, hunker down for a long night of heavy drinking.
And as the sack and ale flow, they begin to tell a story from England’s troubled past.
Soon battlelines are drawn, allegiances are exchanged, friendships are tested and families destroyed.
These are THE POST-HASTE HISTORIES.
From the creators of Bard to the Bone, last seen at a sold out run at the Old Fitz Theatre,
comes the next epic addition to the improvised Shakespeare cannon, The Post-Haste Histories.

“Shakespeare’s history plays are so direct and exciting,” says director and performer Oliver Burton.
“They’re epic stories, grand and yet wonderfully domestic, filled with danger at every turn. They’re perfect for the high-risk world of impro.”

Formed five year ago by some of Sydney’s most experienced improvisers, The Post-Haste Players are
pushing for recognition of impro as a thrilling theatrical art form in its own right.

“Too often impro is thought of as purely comic or as simply a rehearsal room process,” says Burton, “but my favourite moments of theatre happen
when an actor must respond to something unexpected. In impro every thought is new and each reaction is authentic.”

“That’s something Netflix simply can’t offer: the reality of an actor responding for the first time.
Every performance, every moment is unique, shared only by the people who are in the room. That’s special. And it’s worth leaving the couch for!”

For Burton, improvisation is also attractive for being so democratic. “It’s deeply egalitarian,” he says.
“As director, I guide the style of performance, but once a scene is being played it’s up to all of us to weigh in with equal creativity.”
