From Bulawayo, Zimbabwe Chris Gudu and his band bring the irresistible township jive rhythms to Camelot's Django Bar. Former lead singer & bass man of Jive Kayana, his up tempo and exuberant music ( Umbaqanga music) originates from the streets and shebeens of Southern Africa. Chris Gudu has toured and shared the stage with some of Africa’s greatest legends such as Hugh Masekela, Angelique Kidjo, Oliver Mtukudzi, Thomas Mapfumo and more. You can expect a highly charged, high energy and exhilarating performance from Chris Gudu and his band.
A show NOT to be missed as this is the last show while Chris Gudu embarks on a new album launch tour with The Jazz Chapter for some months.

BORODIN, DVORAK & MOZART WITH PASSIONATE VIOLINIST
The Balmain Sinfonia continues its 2017 season – and celebrates its 100 th performance - with a wonderful concert of Borodin, Mozart and Dvorak, showcasing Australian violinist Tinel Dragoi and with its recently honoured artistic director Gary Stavrou OAM again holding the baton.

The latest in the popular series of Saturday afternoon concerts takes place on 10 June 5pm, at the Italian Forum auditorium in Leichhardt. And there will be a free glass of ‘bubbly’ for all in celebration of the Sinfonia
reaching its ‘ton’!

Borodin’s vivid tone poem In the Steppes of Central Asia begins with a peaceful Russian song then paints a
scene with the approach of horses and camels and the bizarre and melancholy notes of an oriental melody.

“A caravan approaches, escorted by Russian soldiers, and continues safely on its way through the immense
desert. It disappears slowly. The notes of the Russian and Asiatic melodies join in a common harmony which

dies away as the caravan disappears into the distance.” In his Violin Concerto No.5, Mozart’s musical
invention takes on an aspect of caprice that we rarely encounter in his other major instrumental works.

Melodies pour abundantly from his pen with the flow of music is often interrupted for fascinating but
inexplicable digressions. Dvorak broke new ground with the Symphony No. 8, with music steeped in the
flavour and atmosphere of the Czech countryside and folk tunes. Dvorak includes sounds from nature,
particularly hunting horn calls, birdsong and dramatic fanfares that suggest non-musical images.

Prolific Sydney playwright Wayne Tunks’ latest play is a stunningly contemporary tale with relatable characters and themes of alcohol, gambling and porn addiction, family trauma, racism, gender politics and more.
And, through it all, heart-warming humour!

The Post family are the epitome of dysfunctional. Matriarch Julie is a casual racist with a drinking and pokie habit.
Son Jimmy is still reeling from trauma as a teen and 25 years later is still a seething mess of anger and sadness.
Sister Robyn works in fashion retail, but her manager, Fiona, is anything but supportive.
Robyn has 17-year-old twins, Emma is in love with douche Matt, while Clint may love his boyfriend Reid
but suspects he may have been born the wrong gender. Bitch is both gritty drama and black comedy.

Tunks Productions is one of the leading producers of quality Australian independent theatre. Its hits include The Subtle Art of Flirting, We’ll Always Have Wagga, The Bridesmaid Must Die!, Silvertop Ash, Hell Hath No Fury and Everything I Know I Learnt From Madonna.
Last year was especially huge for Tunks with Flame Trees, Fag Boy and the Married Guy and two seasons of The Girlie Show all packing them in at theatres around Australia.
Wayne Tunks has been a storyliner on Neighbours and is currently the Festival Director of Short+Sweet Sydney.

Tunks says is new Australian work that focuses on real issues people are facing today.
“These are characters that people will recognise - maybe as members of the family we see on special occasions and just shake our heads…
“I have been working on this particular play for years, adding new bit all the time,
aiming to create an important story, but more than that, a realistic story.”
