WINNER - Most Promising Emerging Company, NZ Fringe 2016
Fresh from creating a critical and popular sensation at the NZ Fringe, emerging star of the cross-art form stage Eliza Sanders (directed by brother Charles) tours Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra from September with two stunning shows: Pedal & Castles.

In these two solo works, Eliza brings all her dazzling artistic skills to the table. Text, movement, her physically virtuosic dance, visual art influences and song combine to thrill audiences in an intimate theatrical experience.

House of Sand ate up the 2016 NZ Fringe with two new dance/theatre works, winning three awards and seven nominations.
Pedal is the company’s first work and the prequel to Castles, winner of two NZ Fringe awards and nominated for four including Outstanding Performer and Best In Fringe.

"45 minutes of weird and wonderful; an exorcism of randomness, a one-woman schizophrenic romp.
It is also hilarious, with points of poignancy that give you little moments of 'the feels'.” - Jillian Davey, Theatreview

Together, Pedal and Castles chart two parts of an archetypal journey of discovery - in a completely atypical way.
Like absurd stream-of-consciousness writing, Eliza finds alogical, illogical and semi-logical connections between ideas and memories — a hive of strangely interconnected questions and musings, from the silly to the sublime.
See absurd ending, see strange beginnings, see both. You choose!
With special prices available for the double bill.
The winner of these tickets will be for Castles.

The Nitwits in FRACTURED FAIRYTALES!
The Nitwits are back in their new show FRACTURED FAIRYTALES! Matty Grey and Teddlie Bear bring their unstoppable chaotic energy to some of our most beloved children’s tales. Forget what you think you know about the fictional characters of your childhood… Grown-ups always get the story wrong. Little Red never wore a hood, she lived in it. Rapunzel’s long luscious hair grew out of her eyebrows. And Goldie-Locks’ story is actually a lot older than you think!
“Some people probably shouldn’t tell fairy tales. Sometimes they do it anyway.” The Nitwits are Matty Grey and Kat Placing both internationally known children’s entertainers, not to mention descendants of Beatrix Potter and Hans Christian Anderson. One might say it is in their blood.

Josh Rennie-Hyes Tour

Event Date: 02/10/2016, 07:00 pm

Following the release of his acclaimed debut 2014 Album February Josh Rennie-Hynes is set to release
Following the release of his acclaimed debut 2014 Album February Josh Rennie-Hynes is set to release his stunning second album Furthermore on August 26th through MGM. Following the release he will embark on a national tour of both Australia and New Zealand from September.

Furthermore was recorded in Rennie-Hynes’ personal studio, on his Family farm in Woodford, Queensland. Over the period of three weeks, working every day from morning until late night, Rennie-Hynes produced, engineered and recorded all of the songs alongside his friend, Steve Grady. Together, they played the bulk of the instruments, with a focus on capturing the essence of each song and building it from a bed rock live performance of just Rennie-Hynes and a Guitar. The result is an album which is organic, cohesive, yet also eclectic, with Rennie-Hynes’ warm and assured vocal providing the common thread throughout.

The first single from the album, ‘Rosie’ is a song Rennie-Hynes penned for a Woman he met on tour who was struggling with depression. While the latest single ‘Picture Frame’ is a hauntingly beautiful song with a driving drum beat, crunchy electric guitars, weeping pedal steel and Josh’s distinctive vocal at the centre of it all.

Patience Is Rewarding!

Event Date: 30/09/2016, 08:00 pm

Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Sydney presents the long-awaited return of Patience: a timeless and ...
Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Sydney presents the long-awaited return of Patience: a timeless and hilarious
musical satire on fame, fandom, art and pretension. With a healthy dose of romance!

And it all happens at Shore School in North Sydney from 30 Sept to 8 October, with preview performances in Narrabeen and Bundanoon (18 and 24 Sept respectively).

Patience may be a virtue, but in this brilliant comedy of lovesick fans, phony pop idols and macho men,
Patience is also a milkmaid – a kind, straightforward country girl who is happy to call a spade a spade.

When the opera opens, twenty lovesick women are refusing the attentions of their macho soldier boyfriends in favour of the pretentious,
trendy poet Bunthorne (a wicked parody of Oscar Wilde, Swinburne and other turn-of-the-20th-century ‘aesthetic poets’).

Bunthorne, in love with the simple dairymaid Patience, reveals to her that he is a fraud; however, her temptation (against her better judgement) to fall in love - as everyone else seems to be- is interrupted by the timely arrival of a rival poet, Grosvenor – who turns out to be her childhood sweetheart!

All the ladies fall for him – of course (much to the men’s disgust) - and all hell breaks loose as the curtain falls on Act 1. With everyone apparently in love with the wrong person, the second act offers much confusion, hilarity – and romance.
Ultimately, it is selflessness – as modelled by Patience – that unknots the complications.
Pretence is renounced and true love found by all – that is all except Bunthorne himself. Everyone is matched up… but “nobody is Bunthorne’s bride!”

One of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular operettas,
Patience ran to almost 600 straight performances on the West End, only rivalled among their 16 Savoy Operas by The Mikado.
Its brilliant satire of insane pop fandom, pretentiousness in art, machismo and the trendy love of all things pastoral is as cutting and apt today as ever!

La Sonnambula

Event Date: 29/09/2016, 07:30 pm

Operantics present La Sonnambula at the Independent Theatre, North Sydney
In an idyllic mountain village, the villagers are preparing the wedding celebrations for Amina and Elvino.
But complications arise with the arrival of a mysterious stranger… not to mention Lisa, Elvino's spurned former lover, scheming in the background.
And what of the ghost that's rumoured to haunt the village?
Operantics – Sydney’s youngest, freshest opera company – follow up their recent popular and critical successes (Cosi fan Tutte, Mansfield Park, Gentleman’s Island and The Telephone) with Bellini’s timeless opera LA SONNAMBULA (The Sleepwalker).
This soaring, light romantic work started life in Paris in 1827 as a ballet - at the height of a fashion for stage works incorporating somnambulism.
Its first operatic performance took place in Milan in 1831 and with its pastoral setting and romantic, thrilling story, LA SONNAMBULA was an immediate success and has since become a favourite among opera companies worldwide.

Bellini was the quintessential composer of the Italian bel canto era of the early 19th century and LA SONNAMBULA joins his other most famous works Norma and I Puritani as an enduring favourite of music lovers everywhere.
The phrase "Ah! non credea mirarti / Sì presto estinto, o fiore" ("I did not believe you would fade so soon, oh flower") from Amina's final aria is inscribed on Bellini's tomb in the Catania Cathedral in Sicily.
