Liveworks Festival of Experimental Art
Performance Space will once again unleash the extraordinary Liveworks Festival of Experimental Art on Sydney this spring. Taking place from 27 October – 6 November 2016, Liveworks will present the newest and most interesting developments in experimental art from across Australia and the Asia Pacific region at Carriageworks.

The Liveworks 2016 program will bring you giant kinetic installations, sonic sculptures, participatory performances, sexy encounters, experimental choreography, captivating Indigenous stories and much more. From intimate one-on-one experiences to large-scale performance spectacles, the festival will explore and extend the diverse ways in which we can experience art— and be part of it.

In its debut Australian production, fresh young international theatre troupe Fledgling Theatre Co premieres this new work in a unique, repertory format.
In “Dirt”, the men fight the enemies abroad; in “Moonshine” the women fight the enemies within.
Watch one side of the battle or witness both struggles unfold. Two plays, two stories, two battles, one front.
An undefeated German army rolls toward a group of Australian and British soldiers in North Africa.
One man stands with his brothers in arms, knowing he is the only one that can stop them.
Back home, a group of women find themselves staring down the barrel of austerity. Watch them
find out the hard way exactly what a girl has to do to get a drink around here…
Fledgling Theatre Company comprises a group of actors, writers, musicians and directors in two ensembles based in London and Sydney.
Its directors - Callum Cameron, Chris Huntly-Turner, Christopher Neels and Patrick Holt -
all graduated from London’s Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
Rats is the fourth new work produced by the company and its first in Australia.

Jane Edwina Seymour, who has been enjoying a successful career in LA for the last few years, returns to Sydney to direct the incredible THE DAYS ARE AS GRASS by Carol Hall, a full-length production consisting of six short plays and two solo pieces. The small cast of seven experienced and mature actors play over a dozen characters, exploring the nature of life in their later years – the fragility of what was once certain, the loss of friends and lovers and the surprises of age. Each of the stories is told with a supreme wit and unerring honesty whilst being tender and playful in its celebration of the human condition.

Chris Gudu & Afro Pamoja From Bulawayo, Zimbabwe bring the irresistible township jive rhythms back to Django Bar as part of their 2016 international tour, by popular demand.

The band has the musical and spiritual grooves from Chris Gudu’s homeland where he grew up not only playing musical instruments and singing with his family, but actually making the instruments, namely guitars and drums.

Chris Gudu was the co-founder of Matonto, alongside his brother Calvin Gudu, and he is the former leader, bass man and lead singer of the group Jive Kayana, which during its days sold out concerts and created big waves at festivals. His up tempo and exuberant music is what is often referred to as “Township Jive Music” and is better known in Southern Africa as Umbaqanga music which sometimes presents a touch of Afro jazz. Umbaqanga music originates from the streets and shebeens of Southern Africa.
