All-Tchaikovsky Concert

Event Date: 05/11/2016, 05:00 pm

ALL-TCHAIKOVSKY CONCERT FOR NOVEMBER 5 BALMAIN SINFONIA’S ‘ENCORE’ AT LEICHHARDT FORUM
Following its sell-out success with it first concert at the Italian Forum last August, the Balmain Sinfonia returns to the wonderful venue with an all-Tchaikovsky program featuring outstanding Australian cellist Georg Pedersen playing The Rococo Variations.
The Russian master’s Swan Lake Suite and his First Symphony bookend the Variations – a magnificent cello concerto in the form of variations on an original theme, written in the spirit of the composer’s ‘idol’ - Mozart.

Tchaikovsky wrote some of the world’s most memorable and most often performed ballet music: Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker and, debuting at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre in 1877, Swan Lake.

The First Symphony is said to have caused Tchaikovsky more “effort and anguish” than any other of his works.
Despite these psychological torments, the work is mostly cheerful and sweet, especially when compared
to the much darker symphonic works to come. Tchaikovsky gave the symphony the descriptive “Winter Daydreams” and its unmistakably Russian character derives from the closeness of most of its themes to the patterns and moods of Russian folk music.

Georg Pedersen is one of Australia’s foremost cello teachers and performers.
He has given well over 3000 concerts in 24 countries, as soloist, recitalist, chamber musician and principal orchestra player.

My Father's Left Testicle - Quick Tix

Event Date: 03/11/2016, 08:00 pm

A new Australian comedy
MY FATHER'S LEFT TESTICLE is a new Australian comedy set against the grimy backdrop of a detention centre, and follows a ragtag group of refugees as they are processed through ‘Camp Assimilation’. Daring to go to the darker side of comedy, this play delves into the idea that nationality is a biological roulette and asks not which country, but which testicle we all came from. Stylistically inspired by the effervescent form of Commedia dell’Arte, the play mixes Murray’s sharp script with slapstick, acrobatics and clowning to explore what it means to be Australian, a refugee and a human.

Chopdogs Sydney Harbour Punk Rock Cruise 2...

Event Date: 22/10/2016, 11:30 am

CHOPDOG'S SYDNEY HARBOUR PUNK ROCK CRUISE OCTOBER 2016
Watching cover bands never really seems that exciting until you’ve seen a bunch on a 4-hour voyage of Sydney Harbour. For the second time this year, bombshellzine.com & Chopdog are teaming up to deliver a rock/punk/ska cruise across the harbour full of sing-a-longs, good food, beer and great times and it’s all happening Saturday October 22 from 12-4PM.

We’ve gotten the skank back in us and somehow talked Melbourne’s THE KUJO KINGS into performing STREETLIGHT MANIFESTO’s Everything Went Numb from start to finish and all we can say is, good luck with that. Sydney’s THE GREAT AWAKE will be taking on 1996’s Everything Sucks by THE DESCENDENTS and it’s sure to be a ripping sing along. Newly formed pop crust band STFU will be performing the very worst of ME FIRST & THE GIMME GIMMES and too round it off, the all-star band OLD-FINGER will be smashing out a very best of GOLDFINGER set.

On top of this on the rooftop SPENCER SCOTT will be giving us a BRAND NEW covers acoustic set, JAE HAYDEN will be tearing up a classic mix of 90’s punk covers, Ivan Drago’s BRENK K TURNER will be playing Love, Ire & Song from FRANK TURNER start to finish, KOBY GEDDES will be smashing out THE DECLINE in full from NOFX and BRAD COLLEY from RASIED AS WOLVES will playing all his favourite punk rock songs.

Food will be served on lvl 2 by Sydney's Food Truck TSURU

In its debut Australian production, fresh young international theatre troupe Fledgling Theatre Co premieres this new work in a unique, repertory format.

Back home, a group of women find themselves staring down the barrel of austerity. Watch them

Last chance to see this, excellent reviews -
Sister Cities is a particularly good interpretation of the genre, and this production captures the spirit of the black comedy in a surprisingly heart-warming way. (aussieTheatre)

Deftly directed with vision nuance and care, director Roz Riley, has applied her unique paradigm to choosing a solid and compelling ensemble cast of five superb actors, each pitch perfect for their role, for this powerful and emotional play. (Sydney arts Guide)

Sparks fly as the gaping differences between the sisters and their relationships (or lack thereof) with their mother are exposed.
The humour is pitch-black but hilarious: (SleepPile arts and Culture)

As the story unfolds, you will find some surprising plot twists accompanied by witty dialogues with quirky word play, so there will never be a dull moment. (weekend Notes)

Recipe for a modern comedy:
Take 4 half sisters who disagree about almost everything; fold in 1 ghost; add lots of quirky word play, much pink underwear and a spider.
Heat well as they try to deal with unexpected death.
Serve with a warm prelude of sex, death and chocolate.

This new Australian play explores one of the century’s most emotionally charged topics, surrogacy.
SYDNEY PREMIERE

For Catherine, a wealthy Australian living in London, the missing piece in her perfect life is a baby. Across the Atlantic in Massachusetts, mother of two Nellie is willing to help her – for a price. Sharing the highs and lows of pregnancy via Skype, email and telephone, these two very different women will ultimately have to decide: who does this baby really belong to?

This funny and moving new Australian play explores the intricacies of the modern family and one of the century’s most emotionally charged dilemmas.

“Funny, poignant and powerful ……tells a story of our times.”
Theatre People

“A highly entertaining and provocative play that not only challenges definitions of families and motherhood, but also explores issues of consent and control, generosity and grief … Highly recommended.”
Angela Savage

“An affecting story that is all too real and sad for many people. Cafarella (tackles the subject) sensitively and expertly.”

Australian premiere of THE DAYS ARE AS GRASS by Carol Hall
Jane Edwina Seymour, who has been enjoying a successful career in LA for the last few years, returns to Sydney to direct the incredible THE DAYS ARE AS GRASS by Carol Hall, a full-length production consisting of six short plays and two solo pieces. The small cast of seven experienced and mature actors play over a dozen characters, exploring the nature of life in their later years – the fragility of what was once certain, the loss of friends and lovers and the surprises of age. Each of the stories is told with a supreme wit and unerring honesty whilst being tender and playful in its celebration of the human condition.
