A Doll's House

Event Date: 21/06/2018, 07:30 pm

A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen, presented by Bard on the Beach
In the male-dominated society of late 1900's Norway, Nora steps out from the fragile world she has created with her husband, a world as perfect and idyllic as a doll's house, and causes a wild and rapid storm of controversy with her actions. Her husband calls her 'his little lark'. But lark's inevitably want to be free....

Believed by many to be one of the greatest playwrights in theatre history, Henrik Ibsen's play, A Doll's House is seen by many as his greatest work. Currently a NSW school English and Drama Curriculum and recommended reading text, this beautifully tragic tale, seemed to foretell a future of independent thought for women. Presented by respected Shakespeare and classics theatre company, Bard On The Beach, for school's and general public matinees and evening shows.

True Blue - Old And New

Event Date: 23/06/2018, 05:30 pm

The Woollahra Philharmonic Orchestra presents TRUE BLUE
In an all-Australian program, the Woollahra Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates the music of its patrons past and present, Peter Sculthorpe and Elena Kats-Chernin in two mid-winter weekend concerts.

On Sat 23 and Sun 24 June at St Columba’s Woollahra, the WPO will also play a Percy Grainger favourite
and young local composer Steven Kreamer's brilliant work COGS, featuring Translucent Duo -
David Lockeridge on Percussion and Bernie Lagana on Saxophone.

Sculthorpe’s early work the Bourke and Wills Suite is an Australian 20th century classic and these concerts place it alongside
two works by Kats-Chernin: Eliza’s Aria from the Wild Swans Suite and Dance of the Paper Umbrellas.
The concert also features Grainger’s witty and whimsical Danish Folk Song Suite.

For this follow-up its sell-out March concerts, the orchestra welcomes to the conductor’s stand
talented Brad Lucas in his first appearance with the WPO.
A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music,
Brad has played with the SSO and is a founding member of the Sydney Ophicleide Quartet (SOQ).
A passionate educator, Brad currently directs bands at multiple schools in Sydney and regionally.
He also lectures in Euphonium at the Sydney Conservatorium.

Translucent Duo have had one philosophy from their inception in 2012: engagement through virtuosity and energy.
Bernie and David engage with a vast range of genres in a high-energy, virtuosic repertoire.
They have commissioned and recorded new work including a double concerto which premiered in 2016 with the WPO.
Some of their notable performances include the International Festival of Music in Hong Kong
and the Australasian Saxophone and Clarinet Conference.
They are also passionate educators - touring regional NSW and have worked with teachers to develop
an HSC music workshop emphasising recent Australian music.

Steven Kreamer is a musician, composer and performer in both the classical and musical theatre world.

Dresden By Justin Fleming

Event Date: 15/06/2018, 07:30 pm

“That was the hour it all began!”
1838: Richard Wagner writes Rienzi. Seventy years later, a 17-year-old Adolf Hitler witnesses the composer’s extraordinary first opera in performance - and is struck dumb.
For Wagner, it was one of the greatest creative acts known to us. For Hitler, it set in motion the greatest wave of human destruction we have ever seen.
For both, the city of Dresden is their stage.

Justin Fleming’s explosive new play puts passion and power under the microscope through the lens of history and our own horrifying hindsight.
Starring Yalin Ozucelik as Adolf, Jeremy Waters as Richard and Renee Lim as Cosima Wagner,
Dresden is a story of creativity and destruction and the dark side of human inspiration. Of the fork in the road and how far you might travel along it before you are stopped. It is the story of Hitler and Wagner and the woman who connected them through time.
Following sold-out seasons of The Laden Table and Jatinga in 2017, and Visiting Hours in 2018,
bAKEHOUSE Theatre Company is proud to present the world premiere of Justin Fleming's DRESDEN.
Plays 15-30 June
