Things I Know To Be True

Event Date: 25/03/2020, 08:15 pm

This show has been cancelled
Things don’t always turn out the way you think they will. Children don’t always live up to expectations or do things the way their parents did.
That’s what the Prices find out in this family drama set in modern-day Australia.
Fran and Bob love their four kids dearly. Their kids love them just as much.
But they don’t necessarily see eye to eye about everything … and sometimes that comes as a shock.

After a sell-out season at Belvoir St Theatre last year, Castle Hill Players are excited to present one of the first community theatre productions of Things I Know to be True. This show will be far from amateur: at the helm is long-time Castle Hill Players member and legendary director, Carol Wimmer.

Carol, who has directed at Castle Hill Players since 2001, says of the play:
“There are many things I know to be true about Andrew Bovell’s writing! I know that he watches and listens. That he is perceptive. That he uses what he observes to create characters that are very real. Who speak naturally. About complicated emotions. I wanted to direct this play even before I finished reading it. Because it’s more than a play about a family. It’s about love and understanding – and misunderstanding. About growing up – and letting go. About joy – and pain. Its characters are funny and complex and confused – just like any family, anywhere!”

Things I Know to be True by Andrew Bovell stars Kate Jirelle, Annette van Roden, Stephen Snars, Celeste Healey, Adam Garden and Ben Freeman as the Price family.

The Pavilion Theatre is located within the Castle Hill Showground, adjacent to the new Metro Hills Showground station. The entrance is at the lights located between Gilbert and Carrington Roads, CastleHill and the Doran Drive entrance is now open.

Make a great night at the Pavilion Theatre complete by enjoying a two-course pre-show dinner at Nobles Restaurant at the Hills Lodge Hotel.

THE MOUSETRAP

Event Date: 20/03/2020, 07:30 pm

The eerie whistling of ‘Three Blind Mice’… a chilling scream… then silence.
A blizzard strands seven guests at the refurbished Monkswell Manor.
One of the guests is killed. One is the killer. The third ‘blind mouse’ is in mortal danger.
No need to fly to London to see the world’s longest-running classic as The Mousetrap kicks off
Hunters Hill Theatre’s 90th anniversary 2020 Season in spine-tingling style!
Vivien Wood directs the quintessential Agatha Christie thriller that will have you guessing ‘whodunnit?’ right until the end!
The plot is a classic old, dark mansion mystery: a handful of strangers are trapped in a snowbound manor house. And one is a psychotic murderer…

The Mousetrap opened in London's West End in 1952 and has been running continuously ever since.
It has by far the longest run of any play in history, with more than 28,000 performances so far!
It also has a famous, stunning twist ending, which audiences are traditionally asked not to reveal after leaving the theatre.

Starring George Gleeson, Jessica James-Moody, Madeleine Dart, Ross Alexander, Michael Richmond, Lois Marsh, Dan Byron and Nathan Farrow, Hunters Hill’s Mousetrap plays at Hunters Hill Town Hall four shows weekly (Friday 7.30pm, Saturday 2pm and 7.30pm, Sunday 2pm) from 20 March to 5 April. Don’t miss it!

Shakespeare On The Bay

Event Date: 15/03/2020, 07:30 pm

"All’s Well That Ends Well” & “Julius Caesar”
One of our longest standing annual events here at Watsons, Shakespeare By The Bay is a collaborative performance concept between Bard On The Beach, Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel and the Woollahra Council, this event is set to bring world-renowned Shakespearean performances to life. Year after year we take over Robertson Park by moonlight to enjoy these performances.

This March enjoy spectacular, culture enriching performances of “All’s Well That Ends Well” & “Julius Caesar” with the stunning backdrop of Sydney’s sparkling harbour, from Robertson Park. Performances will run evenings over two weeks 13 March until 22 March. Pre sale tickets close at 4:30pm every evening, after this, you may buy tickets on the door. All performances start at 7.30pm sharp and run for 2 hour 30 mins including intermission, approximate finish time of 10pm.

Your ticket sale goes directly to the performers, as the actors all practice and perform in their own time. Watsons takes no proceeds from any of the sales and all funds are handed directly to Bard on the Beach to distribute between the actors. That’s true passion for Shakespeare!

Adelaide Fringe - Girl Shut Your Mouth

Event Date: 13/03/2020, 06:00 pm

Theatre Travels is a Sydney-based company that aims to demystify the theatre.
Katie, Grace, Mia and Darcy are your average young girls. They love boys, dresses and the idea of a feminist future. Everything about them is normal. Except their friends die on a monthly basis. Except their lives are in danger if they go out after dark. Except they aren't really your average young girls at all.

'Girl Shut Your Mouth' is an exciting dark comedy by Australian playwright Gita Bezard about ordinary living in an extraordinarily violent world. When Katie gets shot, she is invited to go to a place where people are friendly, the drinks are minty and no one tells you how to live your life. Her friends, Mia and Grace, wracked with jealousy, resolve to join Katie on her journey. The only problem is the price of admission.

The 2019/20 program includes: Peter Wright’s beloved Christmas classic The Nutcracker (recorded from 2016); Ludwig van Beethoven’s uplifting masterpiece Fidelio; a glorious production of iconic classical ballet Swan Lake; and the Opera Australia co-produced Cavelleria Rusticana/Pagliacci, which combines two opera classics in a resplendent re-creation of life in a south Italian village.
