A bouncy, bawdy and engaging look at Restoration England
After an incredible response to the poignant Diary of Anne Frank, Castle Hill Players end their 2019 season with NELL GWYNN, a bouncy, bawdy and engaging look at Restoration England, directed by Jennifer Willison.

It is London,1660. The Puritans have been routed and King Charles II has taken the throne – and brought with him a love of all things loud, extravagant and sexy.
In Drury Lane, the heart of the theatre district, a young Nell Gwynn is peddling oranges when her sassy nature gets her a role on stage – the very first woman to ever do so! She is gutsy and very talented and soon has the attention of the new King.
But in a time when women are second-class citizens, can Nell’s charm and fearless spirit protect her from the dangers of the court?
With a cast of larger-than-life characters, plenty of ribald humour and cheeky double entendres, this is a loving tribute to the world of theatre and a woman far ahead of her time.

OPERA AUSTRALIA’S LOVE LETTER TO THE OPERETTA RETURNS TO SYDNEY
Opera Australia’s Two Weddings, One Bride will return to Sydney for two shows only at Riverside Theatres, Parramatta on the 13th November.

Starring musical-theatre royalty, Geraldine Turner, Two Weddings One Bride is a charming operetta based on a story by Charles Lecocq, featuring some of the world’s most-loved operetta waltzes, polkas and songs, with a quirky and entertaining plot full of twists and turns.

Two Weddings, One Bride is set in the exotic surrounds of Morocco, a fiscally-challenged Governor finds himself in a little too deep and the creditors are nipping at his well-shod heels. But marrying off his twin daughters to just the right suitors could save his bacon!

Together with Turner, the show boasts an impeccable cast including rising star soprano and winner of the 2018 IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competition Zoe Drummond, tenors Nicholas Jones and Michael Petruccelli, as well as baritones Andrew Jones and John Bolton Wood.

Opera Australia’s Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini says, “Two Weddings, One Bride is a very humorous piece, it’s like a French farce all set to fabulous music that people will know straight away. This production is for people who want to have a fun time.”

Music Director Robert Andrew Greene Director Dean Bryant With John Bolton Wood, Zoe Drummond, Andrew Jones, Nicholas Jones, Michael Petruccelli and Geraldine Turner.

Two Quarters Full

Event Date: 06/11/2019, 07:30 pm

New Aussie Play
Two Quarters Full explores the lives of 4 adult’s in their mid-late 20's. The story addresses grief, love, and the turbulent relationships that its characters share. The play follows Christian, a not so by the books lawyer, who is suddenly faced with repercussions of decisions he’s made in the past; both personally and professionally. Suddenly confronted with potential unemployment, death, and his estranged brother showing up on his doorstep both Christian’s and the lives of those around him are thrown into disfunction and insecurity. Christian, Robin, Sarah, and Darren spend the span of play weaving in and out of each other’s lives constantly challenging each other to better understand themselves and the world around them. From moving house to experiencing the failings of the human body and everything in-between, their story is one of truth. At the heart of it, grief is prominently what is explored. The grief that we hide from the ones we love, and sometimes even ourselves. The strength to endure it and to admit it, and the comedy we find alongside it.

The Idea Of North: Live In Sydney

Event Date: 10/11/2019, 02:30 pm

A Prelude in Tea event
Multi ARIA Award-winning vocal group THE IDEA OF NORTH returns to the Independent Theatre, North Sydney to showcase their best and most recent iteration yet.

With the addition of incredible vocal percussionist Kai Kitamura, the group’s repertoire, sound and musical expression has broadened in ways that make your experience of what these five singers can do with only the human voice even more incredible.

The Idea of North are entirely deserved of their reputation as Australia's most awarded, best loved and longest running contemporary vocal group. This multi-ARIA Award-winning ensemble will astound and move with their incredible arrangements, flawless harmonies and dry, deadpan Aussie sense of humour.
You'll not only experience world-class a cappella singing, but such is the group's down-to-earth nature,
you'll also leave feeling as though you've known each member of the group for years.
Since forming originally in 1993, there have been only a few changes to the line up over the years, but each time the group seems to improve their sound, their blend, their musicianship, and now, as a quintet, The Idea of North is in its most exciting and versatile incarnation yet.

With the legendary refreshments and delectable cakes of the Independent Theatre all included in the ticket price, this is a treat simply not to be missed!
