Our Town

Event Date: 23/11/2019, 07:30 pm

HUNTERS HILL THEATRE presents – OUR TOWN by THORNTON WILDER
A landmark in American drama, Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Our Town tells the
story of a small town, Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, in order to tell us the story of
every town, the whole world over. Narrated by the “Stage Manager”, we follow the Gibbs
and Webb families, residents of Grover’s Corners, through twelve years of life changes --
from the mundane in Act I, “Daily Life,” to the romantic in Act II, “Love and Marriage,” to the
finale in Act III, “Death and Eternity.”
Through the young lovers Emily and George, their strong and loving parents, and the many
other Grover’s Corners’ locals, Wilder delivers universal truths about what it means to be
human.
“Oh, earth,” Emily Webb exclaims towards the play’s end, “you’re too wonderful for anyone
to realize you.” With humour, wit, and exceptionally powerful storytelling, Our Town offers
a unique opportunity for audience members to make precisely that realization.
Directed by Kaye Lopez who has directed the HHT production of BRIEF ENCOUNTER, this
play is a hymn to the ordinary yet rich lives of a community.

Event Date: 15/11/2019, 08:15 pm

A bouncy, bawdy and engaging look at Restoration England
After an incredible response to the poignant Diary of Anne Frank, Castle Hill Players end their 2019 season with NELL GWYNN, a bouncy, bawdy and engaging look at Restoration England, directed by Jennifer Willison.

It is London,1660. The Puritans have been routed and King Charles II has taken the throne – and brought with him a love of all things loud, extravagant and sexy.
In Drury Lane, the heart of the theatre district, a young Nell Gwynn is peddling oranges when her sassy nature gets her a role on stage – the very first woman to ever do so! She is gutsy and very talented and soon has the attention of the new King.
But in a time when women are second-class citizens, can Nell’s charm and fearless spirit protect her from the dangers of the court?
With a cast of larger-than-life characters, plenty of ribald humour and cheeky double entendres, this is a loving tribute to the world of theatre and a woman far ahead of her time.

Two Quarters Full

Event Date: 06/11/2019, 07:30 pm

New Aussie Play
Two Quarters Full explores the lives of 4 adult’s in their mid-late 20's. The story addresses grief, love, and the turbulent relationships that its characters share. The play follows Christian, a not so by the books lawyer, who is suddenly faced with repercussions of decisions he’s made in the past; both personally and professionally. Suddenly confronted with potential unemployment, death, and his estranged brother showing up on his doorstep both Christian’s and the lives of those around him are thrown into disfunction and insecurity. Christian, Robin, Sarah, and Darren spend the span of play weaving in and out of each other’s lives constantly challenging each other to better understand themselves and the world around them. From moving house to experiencing the failings of the human body and everything in-between, their story is one of truth. At the heart of it, grief is prominently what is explored. The grief that we hide from the ones we love, and sometimes even ourselves. The strength to endure it and to admit it, and the comedy we find alongside it.
