In Their Footsteps

Event Date: 25/02/2022, 07:00 pm

Playing at the Canberra Theatre Centre
25–26 February
It’s been 50 years since thousands of young American women served their country in Vietnam, and their stories have remained largely untold… until now.

Based on the true accounts of five extraordinary women, In Their Footsteps explores the experiences of women working in war zones, their struggles to be recognised heroes, their loss of faith and the friendships they forged in the face of trauma.

This deeply moving, time traveling piece brings us a better understanding of the Vietnam experience from a uniquely female perspective. It tells us of jobs that have been long overlooked, particularly of civilian jobs in the war that receive, not only no fanfare, but no recognition of service either. It reminds us of the long-term pain, horrors and specifically health implications of serving your country during the Vietnam War.
Theatre Travels proudly presents the remount of this production following its Australian premiere
to a sold out season in Sydney 2021. As the first international Company worldwide to perform
Ashley Adelman and Infinite Variety Productions' beautiful piece of Verbatim Theatre, the show
makes its ACT and SA premieres after successful runs Off-Broadway and at the Edinburgh Fringe
Festival.

Bob Downe: Viva Bob Vegas!

Event Date: 25/02/2022, 08:00 pm

Viva Bob Vegas! is one of the funniest nights out
Last year the celebrated star of cabaret, comedy, television and theatre Bob Downe was all dressed up with no-where to go in his sequin tracksuit and blonde helmet hair, but now he continues to sparkle in Australian cult status as he brings back the big songs and scandals all the way from Sin City to Sydney at Paddocking RSL 25-26 February 2022.

Viva Bob Vegas! is one of the funniest nights out in years (and don’t we all need a good laugh right now). Complete with a four piece band, including Sydney legend Shauna Jensen and dancing girls Frenchie Darling and Cello Bordello. This show is a crooner hit nightclub act deemed way too hot for Vegas, led by the swinger of Comedy, Triple Threat and Prince of Polyester Bob Downe.

Viva Bob Vegas! is full of surprises that’ll have you in stitches and reaching for a Highball and as always, Bob Downe promises to put the Pimms in your Punch!

‘What happens in Vegas stays on the Downe low!’

One of Australia’s most loved and enduring comedy characters, Bob is the creation of journalist, comedian, actor and broadcaster Mark Trevorrow.

Bob’s stage shows have played to acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe, Adelaide Cabaret Festival and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and decades of touring across Australia and the UK including P&O Comedy Cruises and performing for the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance. Bob’s TV appearances range from Countdown to The Project, from the Mike Walsh Show to Studio 10, and hosting multiple Sydney Mardi Gras broadcasts. As Mark he has been heard regularly on ABC local radio and presented The Way We Were, a ratings winner on ABCTV in 2004. He is also featured regularly on Kath & Kim as ‘Darryl’ the menswear salesman.

Music In The Sky Mini

Event Date: 17/02/2022, 06:00 pm

A Night with Anna Murakawa with special guest Vladimir Gorbach
Music in The Sky is excited to present internationally celebrated violinist, Anna Murakawa, for a unique musical experience inside the historic tunnels at Waverton’s, The Coal Loader tunnels.

“I am excited to play in such a unique setting; the sandstone tunnel, along with the lighting and the sounds of violin and guitar - it is going to be very special” - says violinist Anna Murakawa.

Patrons will be charmed by Murakawa during four intimate 65-minute performances across Thursday 17 & Friday 18 February, with internationally acclaimed guitarist Vladimir Gorbach joining her onstage. In true Music in The Sky fashion, curated lighting will illuminate the crushed sandstone walls of the tunnel, immersing audiences in a truly sensory experience of music, light and space.

The musical journey unfolds with music from the impressionists’ Ravel and Debussy, two of the most important and influential French composers of the early 20th century. These pieces provide a perfect segue to scores by the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, whose native sounds, diversity, and modernism shines through his compositions.

Following the ethereal sounds of Bachianas N. 5, the evening will delve into a faster paced musical offering including composer Radames Gnatalli, before erupting into lively and poignant Spanish influenced pieces and culminating into a finale showcasing Astor Piazzolla’s most famous tango piece, Libertango.

Anna Murakawa fans will have the opportunity to meet the acclaimed violinist in person with ‘Meet & Greet’ tickets available to purchase when booking tickets. To enhance the experience, each guest will be served a glass of the premium James Estate Reserve Range Shiraz 2019, Chardonnay 2019 or Eoswellbeing Greek Herbal Tea on arrival.
