Chatwood - Thrilling, Joyful, Jubilant – Bach's Easter Oratorio
The first of this year’s “Bach and the Art of Dialogue” season
(featuring four touring concert programs covering seven inner Sydney and Greater Sydney venues)
has, as its centrepiece, the towering Easter Oratorio.
Directed by Australian Bach doyen and international violin virtuoso Madeleine Easton
– and featuring some of Australia’s finest instrumental and vocal interpreters of early music, supported by an all-star orchestra and choir –
the Bach Akademie is widely regarded as one of the brightest stars in Australia’s musical firmament.
All the joy, power and passion takes place in April with three Sydney performances:
at Paddington’s St Francis of Assisi Church, at Our Lady of Dolours, Church Chatswood and
– in a historic first ever performance for Sydney’s west - at Penrith’s Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre.
Says Madeleine: “Of his 5 cycles of Cantatas written whilst serving as Kantor for the Thomaskirche in Leipzig,
BWV 42 and BWV 6, although completely contrasting in tone and mood,
are some of Bach’s most heartfelt and joyful with their messages of hope and comfort for all."
Then follows one of the master composer’s best-loved and most jubilant masterpieces, the Easter Oratorio.
“In this celebrated work,” continues Madeleine, “Bach utilises a full choir and orchestra to amplify his message of pure, festive joy.
This very special work continues to uplift, inspire and comfort us all these many hundreds of years later.”
