BACK TO M.A.

Event Date: 19/06/2022, 06:30 pm

Maria De Marco stars in a 'mother of a cabaret'….
Musical therapy, where you can get your ‘mummy issues’ off your chest!
Every Sunday evening in June at El Rocco Lounge, Kings X
After 20 years of living away from home, you would think Maria’s problems are over? But she’s turning fifty and she’s alone. After a failed marriage and with a daughter who won’t speak to her, Maria needs help!
When mental health professionals, self–help books and a journey of self- discovery all fail…
... and your own mother can’t help (because she IS the problem!) all that’s left is group therapy. Singing, comic cabaret group therapy!!

In BACK TO M.A. Maria De Marco returns to the group (yep, her audience!) that helped her once with her ‘mummy issues’ in M.A. at the NSW Writers Centre in 2004 and Newtown Theatre in 2011.
And in this stand-alone sequel she lets it all out in the only way she knows how: by talking (and singing) about,
it behind her mother’s back… to a room full of strangers!

Can 12 steps to serenity get her back to her daughter?
All are welcome, especially those with mother issues!

Madem Productions presents BACK TO M.A., a cabaret about everyone’s relationship with their mother.
Featuring re- imagined Broadway showtunes and pop songs, BACK TO M.A. is a sequel Maria De Marco’s first solo cabaret M.A. But you don’t need to know the history (or the baggage) to enjoy this hilarious, feel-good show!

After 2 years of covid postponements and cast changes, BACK TO M.A. is finally here - at the El Rocco Room in Kings Cross! When you can’t talk to your mother, you go BACK TO M.A. The mother of all cabarets! A room full of strangers will make sure you are heard - and loved!

Tumbling Dice

Event Date: 16/06/2022, 07:30 pm

Tumbling Dice mixes comedy, drama and tragedy
An independent theatre production performing in an intimate Sydney theatre. Tumbling Dice follows the story of teenagers in the 90s, finishing up their schooling and with high hopes venture into the real world with big dreams. Some manage through effort a good life while others get their unfair share of struggles. Did they not work hard enough for what they want or did chance in the randomness of life get in the way?

Tumbling dice mixes comedy and drama, tragedy and laughs to see what people do, how people respond when the parts of life outside of their control impacts on them. Are they just characters on a game board only moving when someone else rolls the dice or can they make the most with the life they get.

The Weapons Of Rhetoric

Event Date: 12/06/2022, 02:30 pm

Bach Akademie Australia presents The Weapons of Rhetoric
Bach Akademie Australia continues its thrilling 2022 season with a program full of virtuosity & wit, featuring outstanding Australian musicians, theatrical treats… and some of the master’s most beautiful and popular works.

The Weapons of Rhetoric concerts in June - at the Sydney Conservatorium and Chatswood’s Our Lady of Dolour’s Church, as well as live-streaming on the Australian Digital Concert Hall platform – take their name from the book by Judy Tarling: The Weapons of Rhetoric:

“For centuries, musicians and orators have recognised and encouraged the use of accent and rhythm as essential for perfect communication. To ‘make music speak’ is the ultimate aim of both composers and performers alike.”

The concerts feature not only Bach’s celebrated Double Violin Concerto among the appetizing offerings, but also
famed writer-actor Jonathan Biggins and urbane rhetorician Jonathan Horton QC (one of Australia’s outstanding legal brains!) as guest presenter/performers!
The duo will demonstrate the art of rhetoric and the relationship between speech and music in theatrical debate interwoven throughout the program.
