ANIMAL FARM By George Orwell

Event Date: 24/05/2014, 08:00 pm

Celebrated as one of the greatest novels of the 20th Century
Celebrated as one of the greatest novels of the 20th Century and the Winner of the Retrospective Hugo Award in 1996, The Archway 1 Theatre Company proudly present

ANIMAL FARM by George Orwell Play adaption by Nelson Bond and directed by A1TC Artistic Director Rachel Jordan.

Animal Farm is a fable with a sting. Much has been written about the threat of Communism, but it remained to the late George Orwell, farsighted British author of the brilliant and frightening 1984, to expose the Russian experiment for what it really is; an idealist’s dream, converted by realists into a nightmare. This timely allegory you will meet beasts whose prototypes have dominated news headlines for many fearful years. Opening on a note of joyous triumph for the creatures who have emancipated themselves from the cruel mastery of a human owner, the reading mounts inexorably to a climax of disillusionment in which the other animals discover themselves now subject to the rule of even more ruthless autocrats: the greedy, cunning pigs. Intermingling humor and drama, Animal Farm wrings the emotions of its listeners, leaving audiences shaken with the tale of a tragedy that happened in a mythical barnyard far away but could happen in our own back yard.

Featuring Helena Telford, Juan Lorenzo Suarez, Sarah Robinson, Demitri Fields, Karina Bracken, Juliet Velieu, Luna Andom and Nicholas Shields

The Laugh Stand @ FBi Social With SMART CAS...

Event Date: 22/05/2014, 08:00 pm

Another cracker of a show at FBi Social with the world's best Emcee & a musical comedy sensation!
Comedy is back at FBi Social, Kings Cross Hotel on Thursday 22 May with an absolute cracker of a show!

Your Emcee is Lindsay Webb (QLD). Lindsay is widely known as one of the best, if not THE best Emcee in the business. He has been on TV shows, like ‘Good News Week’ and ‘The Footy Show’, has been ‘the funny bloke’ on the Sea FM Morning Crew (QLD) and has toured sold out Festival shows around Australia and New Zealand. He even has a Guinness World Record for The Longest Show by An Individual - 38hrs & 6 mins (October, 2009)! "left marvelling at his instant wit" **** Herald Sun.

Your headline act is musical comedy sensation, Smart Casual!! Hand-picked by The Melbourne International Comedy Festival for their new talent showcase in 2009, these festival favourites are most loved for their infectious energy, catchy songs, amazing live shows, undeniable stage presence, and hit YouTube videos (including ‘The Hawk’, about an alleged love affair between Jennifer Hawkins and Stephen Hawking) . This marks the first year in quite a while that Smart Casual are not doing the Sydney Comedy Festival, so this will be the best way to soak up their brilliance in Sydney at this time of year. “Immediately likeable. Aussie laconic humour is alive and well,” The Age.

Lindsay and Smart Casual will be joined by another stellar round-up of rising talent, including: Doug Suiter, Kirsty Mac, Gearard McGeown, Kyle Legacy, Emma Malick, Matthew Lane and Becky Lucas (also handpicked, just this year in fact, by Melbourne Comedy Festival for the same new talent showcase)!

All this is FREE for winning WOMBATS and CHEAP for friends and keen comedy goers!

Tiny Hearts CD Launch

Event Date: 22/05/2014, 08:30 pm

Tiny Hearts CD Launch
Tiny Hearts is a collaborative ensemble founded by two exciting voices in contemporary jazz, Eamon Dilworth & Paul Derricott. Featuring compositions from each member, the music draws inspiration from personal experiences, encouraging the listener’s mind to explore imagination.

There are tales of travel, searching, thinking of the cosmos, loss and identity and strong melodic devices that are turned, twisted and developed through improvisation into powerful, emotionally charged and often high energy performances.

In March 2014, Tiny Hearts released their debut album Alluvium which was recorded following a tour across New Zealand and the east coast of Australia.

Featuring:

Eamon Dilworth - Trumpet,
Dave Jackson - Saxophone,
Steve Barry - Piano,
Tom Botting - Double Bass
Paul Derricott - Drums
