Short+Sweet - the festival of tasty short performance bites
Short+Sweet Dance takes place at the New Theatre, Newtown from 22 January to 2 February, Wed-Saturday 7.30pm with Wildcard Youth and Wildcard Experimental 2pm Sat matinees. The gala final will play on Sun 2 Feb at both 2pm and 7.30pm.

Joshua Lowe and Adam Wheeler are festival directors and welcome the return of this genre to the stable after a 3 year absence.

“This time the competitive angle has been stripped back to present more of a showcase that unites emerging and established dance makers with audiences,” says Joshua.


“With more than 40 original pieces divided into 4 companies, each performing twice, the festival has also incorporated dance on film - allowing international entries as well.

“As with cabaret and theatre, the 'Wildcard' performances are also a feature - in this case allowing both a youth and experimental division to take the creative showcase even further.”

Just some of the more than 40 choreographers and 100+ artists involved include Martin del Amo, Rosslyn Wythes, Paulina Quinteros and Sean Marcs.

The Dance festival – which follows the Cabaret festival - runs in parallel with the annual theatre fest, just up the road at the King Street Theatre.

Curious Jac is performed by bilingual storyteller, Lilli Pang and is a magical adventure of the extremely curious Jac who travels the continents and discovers the answers to her questions through the magic of music and storytelling. Jac is full of questions. She is extremely curious and asks about everything around her, but answers only lead to more questions! She wants to know how mountains were made, what can the trees see, how do we smile, why is the moon so large when it rises, why does the turtle have cracks on its back.

Train Rides with Thomas the Tank & Friends
RIDES:

At The Train Shed, you can ride with:
- Thomas The Tank Engine, and his carriages Annie & Clarabel
- Toby the Tram Engine, and his carriage Henrietta
- James the Red Engine, and the Green Express Coaches
- Percy the Small Engine, and the Sodor Mail Vans
- Mavis the Quarry Engine, and the Ffarquhar Quarry Wagons, and 
- Gordon the Big Engine, and the Red Express Coaches.

The ride takes you across the bridge over the pond, past "Gnome Knoll", "Trevor" and "Crock's Scrapyard", across the bridge again, down around the "Branch Line", through the tunnel and back up to Wellsworth Station.

ATTRACTIONS:
There's more than just Train Rides at The Train Shed!

Inside the Thomas Shop, children (and adults who refuse to grow up) can drive the Model Train Layout all by themselves, taking Thomas, Toby, James or Percy on a tour of the Isle of Sodor, making up their own
"Thomas" stories while they play.

When you arrive at The Train Shed, you simply can't miss our Sydney Suburban Double-Decker Carriage - yes, it's a real one! Many parents may remember travelling on carriages like these when they were younger.

Train Rides on Thomas, Toby, James, Percy, Mavis & Gordon.
(If the child is 2 years or under, the child can take a Free Adult with them.)

There's a Kiosk, or bring a picnic.
At Vicary's Winery, The Northern Road Luddenham.

if using a GPS please enter Vicary's Winery, Luddenham as a point of interest, (but STAY on The Northern Road, even if the the GPS says to turn off).

Sydney's new generation of BeBopers will bring to you the absoloute classic music of Charlie Parker in a celebration that tributes the master saxophonist and genius mind, who changed JAZZ music forever.

Charlie Parker - 'Bird', innovated a whole new approach to the way jazz music was played, not only on the Saxophone, but all jazz instruments. His approach to improvisation provided 'freedom' from the pop culture of swing music as Bird represented musicians for the first time as intellectual artists rather than entertainers.

An all star Bebop Quintet line up made up of the most dedicated jazz musicians playing all your favourite tunes that are still cherished today - including 'Billies Bounce,' 'Ornithology,' 'Now's The Time' and more!

Exciting drummer and winner of the 2013 Jann Rutherford Memorial Award (JRMA), Jodie Michael debuted her new quartet Broken Timefor Foundry616 in October 2013.

With subtle comparisons to McGann’s original quartet of the 1960s, which, like Jodie Michael's, features New Zealand musicians and was hugely original, Michael brings together key players from the local talent pool to create this thrilling new quartet.

Free jazz alto saxophonist Peter Farrar, who is a major talent influenced by McGann, joins pianist Steve Barry, another brilliant New Zealander with an exciting, soulful style, inspired by the great Mike Nock and finally, NZ bassist Tom Botting, who has found a place for himself in the competitive Sydney scene and formed a dynamic partnership with Jodie Michael through her trio.

In 1965 two locals (Bernie McGann and John Pochee) and two New Zealanders (Andy Brown and John Pochee) shook up the Sydney jazz scene as the ‘Bernie McGann Quartet’. Broken Time is set to do the same.
