Exclusive performance by an all star Australian band
Saxophonist Gary Honor has worked with many of the worlds great entertainers and musicians and for tonight's show he's assembled an all star Australian band to perform with UK SMOOTH JAZZ keyboardist Oli Silk, whose exclusive Sydney performance for Foundry616 marks his first visit to Australia.

OLI SILK

Oli Silk is a British keyboardist and producer whose professional musical journey began in 2000 as one half of Jazz Funk duo Sugar and Silk with two successful CDsreleased in the UK and Europe, followed by producing and co-wroting an album for saxophonist James Vargas in 2003. In 2006, he released his debut CD So Many Ways.

GARY HONOR
As a Sydney-based artist,... Gary has worked with many of the world's greatest musicians and entertainers in both Australia and abroad. His talents on all saxophones, flute and wind-synth have seen him share the stage with the likes of Iva Davies & Icehouse, Dale Barlow (The Jazz Messengers) James Morrison (International trumpet Virtuoso), Israel Houghton, Guy Sebastian, Tom Politzer (Tower of Power) , The Harris Bros (Tower of Power), UB40, The Sydney All-Star Big Band, Patrizio Buanne (Italy) as well as with such notable smooth-jazz stars - Chuck Loeb, Paul Brown, Brian Simpson, Darren Rahn, Jackiem Joyner, Peter White, Cindy Bradley, Jaared, and Oli Silk as well as support artists such as Joe Cocker, Johnny Gil and Dutch saxtress Candy Dulfer.

Short Sweet And Theatre

Short+Sweet - the festival of tasty short theatre bites
The annual festival of 10-minute plays opens 8 January running through to 3 March at the King Street Theatre, Newtown. The program changes weekly and plays Wed - Sat 7.30pm plus Sun 5.15. Plus the Wildcard performances: Sat 2:30pm, Sun 1pm and Mon at 7:30pm.

Theatre festival director Pete Malicki – taking the helm of his 3rd straight fest - said Short+Sweet was the biggest of its type in the world. This year it boasts 170 short plays – chosen from more than 1200 entries from all over Australia and internationally – and showcasing the talents of 320 writers and directors and more than 450 actors.

On display is the work of both seasoned professionals and talented newcomers... – often in an explosive alchemical mix. This year Sydney also welcomes companies visiting from Malaysia and India where the international arm of Short+Sweet is already well-established.

Pete enthused about the networking opportunities such a festival offers artists as well as a door way to further fame - and sometimes even fortune!

"In 2009 when presenting my first Short+Sweet play I saw an amazing monologue by a young woman wrapped in bandages while talking about having sex with super villains.

“That actress was Steph Dawson who just recently landed herself a lead role as Annie Cresta in The Hunger Games."

Other Short+Sweet alumni include Rose Byrne and Brendan Cowell.

This year, the theatre festival runs in parallel during January to a Cabaret and Dance festival, just up the road at the New Theatre.   more

Stretch features six original compositions, which represent some highlights of Clarke’s writing from the past 20 years as well as three jazz standards including Lazy Afternoon, inspired by the late great Sydney jazz singer Joe Lane’s rendition.

We welcome back award winning jazz double bassist Brendan Clarke at the helm of this outstanding band. Featuring some new originals as well as lesser known standards the energy and intensity this band radiates stunned and excite...d the audience at their last performance. Not to be missed!

Courtney Act - the nom de plume of gender illusionist, Shane Jenek - brings her hit cabaret show, Boys Like Me to Sydney Theatre for one night only on Tuesday 25 February, direct from sold out seasons in NYC and LA.

Courtney Act airs hysterical dirty laundry from her titillating sex life, including the angry text from that straight boy’s girlfriend, the twins in Montreal and the US Marine, to name a few.

Courtney Act’s dazzling career kicked off after she became a semi-finalist on Australian idol in 2003, leading to a national arena tour and record deal with SONY/BMG. Since then, she’s opened for Lady Gaga (and sang at her birthday party), played Angel in Rent and been vot...ed by FHM Magazine as one of the top 100 Sexiest Women in the world (despite being a bloke).

It has just been announced that Courtney Act, who was in the first series of Australian Idol in 2003, will appear on television in RuPaul’s Drag Race early next year. To appear on this internationally viewed reality tv show is an huge privilege and acknowledgement of Courtney Act’s professional standing in the entertainment business.

Boys Like Me showcases Courtney’s observations of life on the gender divide, her journey through masculinity and femininity and how it manifests when boys like her.

Courtney Act appears at Sydney Theatre as part of a trio of shows for Mardi Gras. Following Courtney on the 25 February are Bob Downe (26 - 27 February) and Trevor Ashley (28 February).

A rising star on the world jazz scene, Tricia has worked extensively acr...oss Europe,including major festivals and venues such as Paris’ famous Duc des Lombards, and appearances at some of the EU’s biggest Jazz festivals and clubs including Jazz A Vienne, Montreaux Jazz festival, Bulach Jazz festival, Jazz Ascona, Martinique Jazz Festival, Jazz en Touraine & Orleon Jazz Festival, amongst many more.

This is her seventh trip to Australia and her first appearance at Foundry616.
