Leap Of Faith

Event Date: 09/09/2016, 08:00 pm

Fill your heart and be swept along - Rockdale Musical Society’s premiere production of LEAP OF FAIT
Love will get you every time… and one charismatic con-man is about to find that out the hard way.
The “Reverend” Jonas Nightingale, an electrifying performer and con-artist, is travelling with his ministry
when his bus breaks down in a small Kansas town.
The part-time reverend and full-time crook pitches a tent and invites the locals to a revival.
The sheriff, a woman named Marla McGowan, is determined to stop Jonas from separating the townspeople from their money,
and Jonas' real challenge arises when he meets the sheriff and her son, whose love forces an ultimate cynic to take a real ‘Leap of Faith’.

LEAP OF FAITH features a roof-raising score by eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken
(Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS).
The creative team includes book writers Janus Cercone and Tony-winner Warren Leight (SIDE MAN)
and Grammy-winning lyricist Glenn Slater (TANGLED).

Based on the hit film of the same name, Rockdale Musical Society follows up its recent hits Reefer Madness and Calamity Jane when proudly it presents its premiere performance of this uplifting musical comedy.

Beardyman - Sydney

Event Date: 07/09/2016, 09:15 pm

Beardyman comes to Australia for four special shows
Beardyman comes to Australia for four special shows, including an appearance at the prestigious Just For Laughs Sydney Comedy Festival.

Beardyman, the undisputed guru of beatboxing greatness, is bringing to Australia his groundbreaking live interactive show One Album Per Hour, a fairly self-explanatory notion in which he creates an album on the spot based on audiences’ suggestions. Pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in a live interactive experience, Beardyman has sold out every run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at one of the biggest venues, Pleasance Grand, as well as selling out his last UK tour.

“Britain’s got no talent, Beardyman has it all”…..STV

Imagine a machine that can let you record and mix music in real time – one that will enable musicians to get down the ideas in their head instantly, with no filter between the germs of a song and hearing it come alive straight away. Imagine the fevered genius capable of building such a perfect musical aid. Meet the Beardyman’s custom built music production space ship, BEARDYTRON_5000mkIV which is able to create original music faster than most people can think of it, twisting every sound he makes into slick, polished songs live!!! And meet its creator… Beardyman, whose performances have been viewed over 60 million times on YouTube alone with improvisation being at the heart of the creative process.

Chances are, you already know Beardyman. He’s the lovable beatboxing champion, last heard playing the charismatic stoner on Fatboy Slim’s global smash Eat Sleep Rave Repeat, right? This beat One Direction in the charts! He won the UK Beatbox Championships consecutively until no one else dared to enter. Actor, writer and animator Mike Judge was so impressed with his vocal abilities he insisted that Beardyman lend his voice to several characters in the latest series of Beavis and Butthead.

Blackbird - Quick Tix

Event Date: 06/09/2016, 08:30 pm

Throwing Shade Theatre Company presents BLACKBIRD by David Harrower
Fifteen years ago, Una and Ray had a relationship. She was 12, and he was 40.
Then he abandoned her, and they haven't set eyes on each other since. Now she's found him again...
After three years in prison and subsequent hardships, Ray has a new identity and has made a new life for himself, thinking that he cannot be found.
Una, twenty-seven, has thought of nothing else; upon seeing a photo of Ray in a magazine,
she has tracked him down and arrived, unannounced, at his office.
Guilt, rage, and raw emotions run high as they recollect the passionate relationship they had fifteen years ago.
Without moral judgements, the play never shies away from the brutal truth of this abandoned and unconventional love.
Nevertheless, the consequences are shattering.

Throwing Shade Theatre Company (Metamorphosis, No Exit, Disco Pigs) brings a powerful two-hander
to a new Sydney stage as part of the Fringe festival from 6 September.

Directed by Andrew Langcake, BLACKBIRD stars Eleanor Ryan (The Women, The Catastrophists)
and William Jordan (Metamorphosis, Enchanted April) and will play from 6 to 10 Sept at the new Off-Broadway Hub in Annandale.

Blackbird premiered at King's Theatre as part of the Edinburgh International Festival, in August 2005,
and transferred to the Albery Theatre in London's West End in 2006. The production received the 2007 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play.
In 2007, the play opened simultaneously at the Manhattan Theatre Club in New York and at American Conservatory Theatre, San Francisco.

U.S. Of Eh?!?

Event Date: 06/09/2016, 09:30 pm

America is all through the news and Aussies want to know “What is up with that place?”
America is all through the news and Aussies want to know “What is up with that place?”

Steve Lynch knows! The weird and wacky reality of life in the USA is squarely in Steve’s sights in the popular improv champion’s debut solo show at The Factory Theatre from 6-10 September.

Steve (Scrabble Unscripted, Theatresports) won the Green Card Lottery, took the plunge and lived in the USA for a year from 2015 to 2016.
He saw everything he could and – like a good improviser - said yes to (almost) everything.
In an hour of stand-up, characters, sketches and songs, Steve relives a year of Hollywood, rednecks, reality TV, Texan rodeo and – most of all – confusion!

“We hear so much about America and everyone wants to know what it’s really like,” says Steve.
“This show reveals the truth: that it’s even crazier than you’d think.”

Steve has always loved comedy that celebrates the joy of living. U.S. of Eh?!? is all about doing something crazy like moving to another country for no good reason, and sucking the marrow out of life - with no regrets.

“When I moved to America, I was determined to say ‘yes’ to everything. It was while I was standing on a reality TV show set, unpaid, that I thought: “If I get out of this country alive, it will make a great show’!”

Steve is a Sydney Theatresports legend and Cranston Cup champion – most recently playing alongside
Olympic diving gold-medalist Matthew Mitcham in Celebrity Theatresports.
He’s performed at Sydney and Melbourne Comedy Festivals, in multiple impro spin-off shows as well as most recently in regular shows Improv Soap and Def Con 3.
He has written for Comedy Inc (Channel 9), Double Take (Channel 7), the AWGIE-winning Wednesday Night Fever and The Glasshouse (ABC).
After branching out from Improv into Stand-up in the US, within 3 months he became a regular performer at the Comedy Store in Hollywood. He also kept a hilarious blog about his travels.

Julian Clary - The Joy Of Mincing In Melbour...

Event Date: 07/09/2016, 08:00 pm

This is Julian at his filthy best. Live and unplugged.
Julian Clary – camp comic and renowned homosexual - is a British national trinket and a dear and faithful friend of Australia. He is also, while we’re at it, a TV and radio star and author.

Following his sell out tour of the UK, he now brings The Joy Of Mincing down under, and will be performing in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. He will perform at the iconic Sydney Opera House for the Just For Laughs Sydney Comedy Festival.

The Joy of Mincing is Julian Clary’s celebration of 30 years as a camp comedian. There is so much to tell you; the ups and downs of his sordid love life, the true and heart stopping account of how he saved Dame Joan Collins’ life, and don’t start him on the perils of his DIY electrical home enema kit.

“Laden with filth and innuendo”
The Scotsman

On stage Julian will proudly wear his well-deserved M.B.E (Mincer of the British Empire). It was the last thing he expected to receive when he knelt down in front of Prince Charles in the scullery at Buckingham Palace…

And because Julian gives and gives (until it hurts) he will be handing out honours to the lucky few in the audience too. This is Julian at his filthy best. Live and unplugged.

Come and witness a masterclass in camp comedy.

The Midnight Shift

Event Date: 01/09/2016, 07:30 pm

Get set for the most pleasurably indulgent soak in a soapy TV nostalgia bath ever
This original musical comedy - by heirs of TV soap royalty, Romy Bartz & Erin Brookhouse -
makes its world premiere at The Midnight Shift and Giant Dwarf from 1 to 11 September.

With a large and multi-talented cast of all-singing, all-dancing performers, this loving homage to 1980s Australian TV soap leaves no cliché unturned, no fashion crime unrepeated… with a script and music that will make you both cringe, then cheer - then want to join in!

Taking its starting point from Australia's shortest-lived 80's soap of the same name, the creators of BATTLERS & DREAMERS claim to have discovered the lost tapes; bravely, they invite Sydneysiders to settle in for a memorable experience that turns theatre into live TV – complete with opening credits and theme-song!

Join them as the show follows local country family The Grundys battling big business, while their only daughter (with dreams of pop stardom… of course) prepares to marry a bad boy with a past he can't recall.

Laugh and cry with the people of Mainsbridge as they struggle through their domestic dramas… and fight to ignite their dreams!

Romy Bartz and Erin Brookhouse devised this new work, inspired by their shared history and affinity with the genre.
While Romy's mum, Belinda Giblin, appeared in classic Aussie shows such as The Sullivans and Sons and Daughters (where Romy spent much of her childhood on set), Erin's grandfather, producer/writer Don Harley and his actress wife June Thody, worked in the same circles.
