Resonance is Sydney’s highly-popular series of stunning, one-hour informal concerts.

This month, the featured guest instrumentalist is clarinetist Ian Sykes, who joins pianist Chris Cartner for a programme of seductive and stirring music from France. From the luscious, late-romantic sonata by Saint-Saëns to the playful ‘Duo Concertante’ by Darius Milhaud, the centrepiece in this enticing bill is Poulenc’s haunting and brilliant Sonata for Clarinet and Piano.

The work (premiered in 1963 by Benny Goodman and Leonard Bernstein) featuring music of extraordinary tenderness alongside Poulenc’s typically boisterous musical personality.

We call it THE CULTURE.

Laura Jackson, returns in September as part of Sydney Fringe 2015, to present the world premiere of her latest work, The Culture. In dovetailing stories of two best friends, The Culture follows Katie and Will who are both struggling for equality in a culture that sees them as inferior. When the world around them tries to beat them down, and their friendship is the only guiding light, the two make a pact to do whatever it takes to take down The Culture.

The annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival returns to Glen Street Theatre as part of a global event
The annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival returns to Glen Street Theatre as part of a global event when more than 100,000 people in over 300 cities across six continents gather in cinemas, galleries, universities, museums and cafes to view the very best short films from across the globe.

This year MANHATTAN SHORT received a record breaking 678 short film entries from 52 countries. The ten finalists hail from eight countries, with short films from Turkey and Kosovo representing their respective countries for the first time.

These short films will not only entertain a global audience but will be judged by them as well. Cinema-goers will become instant film critics as they are handed a ballot upon entry that allows them to vote for the Best Film and Best Actor. Votes will be sent through to MANHATTAN SHORT HQ with the winner announced on Monday Oct 5, at 10AM (EST).

"In our 18 years of programming MANHATTAN SHORT, this is by far the strongest show we have ever had. From the first scene to the last, these films will command every second of the audience's attention. It's anyone's guess who will win the Gold Medal,” said Founding Director Nicholas Mason.

Mason, originally from St Ives on Sydney’s North Shore, is overwhelmed by the festivals ability to bring people together. “MANHATTAN SHORT unites people in all corners of the globe, from Sydney to Mumbai, from Buenos Aires to Cairo. In times like these, cross-border events like this that contribute toward greater tolerance and understanding are needed more than ever,” he said.
