Russian Flavours with an Aussie Premiere Performance
The Metropolitan Orchestra's next Met Concert on September 5 features a premiere from the pen of Russian born Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin featuring Russian born flautist and TMO principal, Svetlana Yaroslavskaya. Coupled with Rachmaninoff's Symphony No 2, Met Concert #4 will be an emotive musical experience full of Russian passion and flavour.

"Elena and I have worked together on several occasions and I've always loved and admired her work. The chance for TMO to be the first to perform all 6 of her Re-Inventions which have now been re-engineered for Flute with our own principal flautist is something we are all very proud of," said Sarah-Grace Williams, TMO's Chief Conductor.

The second half of the evening will feature Rachmaninoff's haunting Symphony No. 2. After a disastrous reception to his Symphony No. 1, Rachmaninoff fell into the pits of despair.

It took almost 10 years before he finished this second symphony which was received to great applause winning him the coveted Glinka award and restoring his confidence and sense of self-worth as a symphonist.
Often considered to represent both hope and redemption, this hugely expressive work is a meandering musical journey from anguish to triumph.

From acclaimed playwright Jane Bodie come two acutely observed one-act plays that delve into the heart of modern relationships. Darlinghurst Theatre Company presents Ride & Fourplay from 4 September to 4 October at Eternity Playhouse.

In Ride, two strangers wake up in bed together, naked and hung over, with no idea how they got there. Through hazily reconstructed memories, they begin to make sense of what may, or may not, have happened between them.
Fourplay is a serendipitous story about four city dwellers finding intimacy, friendship and love in unlikely places.

Richly human and cleverly wrought, Ride & Fourplay is humorous and authentic.

Nothing.

Enter THE SHAPESHIFTER: as mysterious as a midnight shadow at midnight, as undulatingly changeable as a train timetable, as utterly admirable as a sock hanging off the end of your foot.

Follow the SHAPESHIFTER from person, to thing, to other thing, to other person as she sheds skin after skin like some kind of idiotic crab-snake.

Part monologue, song and clown, SHAPESHIFTER is a deep fall into the rabbit hole of the mundane and often ridiculous minutia of our lives.

Josipa Draisma is joyous, loveable and eccentric.
