Zimbabwe, 2015. The Mugabe Government has fallen and investigations into its abuses have begun.
Zimbabwe, 2015. The Mugabe Government has fallen and investigations into its abuses have begun.
Eunice Ncube, working for the new Truth and Justice Commission, begins interviewing Gabriel Chibamu,
one of the most infamous perpetrators of the horrors of Mugabe’s regime.
As Gabriel's trial and inevitable prose-cution approach, Eunice begins to sift through the past only to find that right and wrong, guilt and inno-cence, are far less clear than she first thought.
The world is at war and Anders Lustgarten’s intense & terri-fying play asks the questions:
What is Truth? And how do we find Justice?

Everything In The Garden- Quick Tix

Event Date: 29/04/2016, 07:30 pm

There is a serpent lurking in that Garden of Eden
Jenny and Richard are happily married in the days of stay-at-home wives, unworried smoking, hats, gloves, and only ‘nice’ sex within marriage. They have just moved to a more expensive house in the suburbs, private schools and country clubs. They have a paradise for a garden, but as the story goes, there is also a serpent lurking in that Garden of Eden – with the biggest temptation of all: money. Then Albee lets the happy comedy turn to a savage indictment of a hypocritical society that pretends virtue but practices all the vices that will make them rich and richer. Perhaps there is no deity to throw them from the garden, just a drunken, powerless watcher who may not survive the fray.

THE CHERRY ORCHARD

BY ANTON CHEKHOV, ADAPTED BY DAVID MAMET

“The Orchard will either be sold or not sold. The causes of it are long in the past.”

An aristocratic family, on the brink of financial ruin, must come to terms with the sale of their land to an upstart developer and the loss of their beloved cherry orchard, the finest in the district.

For Lyubov Ranevskaya, her brother, her daughters and their servants, losing the property will mean the end of a way of life which no longer holds any joy but to which they still desperately cling.

Chekhov’s masterful tragicomedy, rich in observation of human nature, is a powerful study of our relationship to time and place

In David Mamet’s bold adaptation, characterised by his distinctive sardonic tone, edgy rapid-fire dialogue and manipulative characters, we come to see the play in new and surprising ways: as an audacious exposition of frustrated sexuality.

In this world, no one is happy in love or life, and in the end, as the axe falls, reality bites hard.
“Blows a gust of fresh air into the old play” The Sentinel

Director Clemence Williams, a 2015 graduate from the Master of Fine Arts (Directing) course at NIDA, will be making her New Theatre and Sydney mainstage debut with this production.

Of The Cherry Orchard, she says “it’s quite an unusual classic in that there’s a plethora of fabulous roles for women – so it shoots to the top of my list! And I’m totally in love with Mamet’s translation as it brings a sharpness and musicality to a text that can sometimes be swallowed up by extraneous language.”

Clemence adds “New Theatre has such a fabulous reputation, not only for producing high quality theatre but also for the fantastic supportive community that accompanies every stage of the process. To be supported and immersed in such a loving, intelligent and creative community is a gift.”

The Imperial Bells Of China-Chime Music And...

Event Date: 25/05/2016, 08:00 pm

The Imperial Bells of China returns to Australia with a new production.
Touring to Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne in May and June 2016, The Imperial Bells of China returns to Australia with a new production which incorporates new elements including dance and folk songs.

In 1978, the 2,400-year-old bronze and stonechime-bells of Duke Zeng’s Tomb, together with a series of other ancient instruments, were unearthed in Hubei China. Inspired by these discoveries, Hubei Opera Theatre staged the Chime Music and Dance performance bringing song, musical instruments and dance together, and puts bronze, stone, jian drum and dozens of other ancient instruments on the same stage. Through this artistic style the beautiful ancient music and dance of China are brought alive together on one stage.

“Transport yourself back in time 2400 years and witness a truly unique and enchanting experience, said Elizabeth Wan Event Manager. “Immerse yourself in history and prepare to be astonished by the beautifully crafted Ancient Bells of China. Listen to their harmonious sounds and marvel at the spellbinding traditional dancers as they take you on a magical journey of both sight and sound all the way back to ancient China.”

Not only is the sound of the bells filled with romantic and sonorous melodies but they are also visually breathtaking due to their grand scale and elaborate cast technique. Discovering the music, cultural and spiritual history and being taken away by the ethnic folk dancers and musicians all set in 900s, is part of what makes this show unique.

Experience the lost world of “Ten Kingdoms” with exquisite ancient costumes and magnificent production.

The Imperial of China represents a ritual in China’s outbound cultural exchanges, it has been performed in front of Chinese President Xi Jin Ping, Egyptian Present Abdel Fattah, The king and queen of Belgium and many more during the official visits and all across 57 countries and regions for more than 1000 times.
