Conservation Month at the Australian Reptile Park
Calling conservation kids everywhere! It’s Conservation Month at the Australian Reptile Park these holidays and there are stacks of cool conservation animals and activities on offer!

We have Dingo pups! That’s right, our two female Dingos ‘Adina’ and ‘Kala’ are currently pregnant and are due to have puppies over the coming weeks! During the June/July school holidays, visitors will have the opportunity to meet the pups and even have their photo with them!!!

The Park will also be introducing a NEW experience for visitors. ‘Animal Encounters’ gives guests the opportunity to get up and personal with some of the stars of the Australian Reptile Park. You can choose to have your encounter with either our newest additions the dingo pups, Hugo the Galapagos Tortoise or ‘Kraken’ our Komodo Dragon.
Each ‘Animal Encounter’ lasts for 15-20 minutes and offers participants a hands-on, fully interactive, once in a lifetime experience! They are available for booking online or on the day of your visit at the front desk.

Our special Conservation Show will run daily at 12:30pm and educate visitors about the Park’s most threatened species, including the Purebred dingo, Greater bilby, Komodo Dragon, a variety of frogs, Woma python, Ring Tailed Possum and Alligator snapping turtle. We will also be bringing back our ever popular ‘Conservation Workshops’ where participants are able to learn about how to attract native wildlife to their back yard by learning to build possum boxes and frog ponds.

In addition, our Kids 2 Keeper workshops run throughout holidays, with an emphasis on conservation. Kids can learn about conservation and get their hands dirty at the same time!

Ticket Wombat LOVES the Australian Reptile Park and highly recommends to watch the Reptile Shows!

PLEASE NOTE:
Ticket Wombat will mail the tickets to the address given in your member account.
The tickets can be used on any day during the school holidays and are strictly non-transferable.

Not Strictly Ballroom

Event Date: 13/06/2015, 07:30 pm

Paul Hayman's 'Not Strictly Ballroom' - The Story of Cloudland
The late 1940’s to the 1980’s saw many social changes within the Australian landscape. None more so than the changes in Music, Dance and fashion.

“The Saturday Night Dance” was the norm and involved an evening of live music and social dancing. The venues were majestic and played host to a multitude of Iconic National and international acts.

Now a show takes you on a journey through one of the most Iconic Dancehalls of them all….

Cloudland Ballroom sat high on the hill overlooking Brisbane city and was a landmark for almost 40 years.

We all know the saying “if only the walls could talk”….

…. Well, there aren’t many buildings in Australia that would have more to tell than this venue, which, was considered by many as “The Greatest Ballroom in the Southern Hemisphere”

It’s overnight demolition in 1982 became as controversial as some of the acts who played there. Many Brisbane residents were not only stunned, but saddened and disheartened.

The show “Not Strictly Ballroom’ is the Complete History of this Iconic Building.

The stage set is a concise replica of the Band Stand of the original venue. The cast of 20, comprise of a 7 piece band identical in line up to the original house band of Cloudland, complimented by some of Australia’s best Ballroom and Rock’n’Roll Dancers and hosted by Entertainer, Producer and Director Paul Hayman.

This 2 ½ hour production is a truly unique entertainment experience. A historical tribute, not to a Band or an Artist, but to the venue which housed them! The dance showcases by the cast during the program highlight how not just the Australian Music scene has evolved over the last 40 years, but also the Dance scene.

The truly unique element to this show is that the audience doesn’t have to sit in their seats and just watch, they too can dance on the Dance floor in front of the bandstand during the show just as you would have done at the original Cloudland.

FAULT LINES

Event Date: 11/06/2015, 07:30 pm

A show combining traditional Chinese dance & culture with contemporary dance
Fault Lines depicts the human response to the devastating earthquakes in Christchurch and the Sichuan province of China. The show had its world premiere at the Melbourne Festival in October 2012 in a unique collaboration between New Zealand choreographer Sara Brodie and China’s Sichuan province- based Leshan Song & Dance Troupe.

Together they crafted an intimate, personal response to explore shared earthquake experiences by combining traditional Chinese dance and culture with contemporary dance.
Now this critically acclaimed production is touring to Sydney and Canberra from 11 to 16 June 2015.
On a quiet spring afternoon in 2008, an earthquake measuring eight on the Richter scale devastated the Sichuan province of China, killing over 69,000 people. It was a natural disaster on such a scale that defied imagination – but for millions of Chinese survivors, there was nothing for it but to pick up the pieces and carry on.

As well as dance and theatre, the performance includes elements of song. Composer Gareth Farr sat in on the creative process and composed the music as the work was put together.

“The dancers are beautifully trained in Chinese classical dance, and handle the unfamiliar contemporary dance vocabulary with skill.”
