Event Date: 28/05/2016, 07:30 pm
Nick and Colby are expecting their first baby together - to complete their perfect lives.
When what you’d expect would be the happiest moment of your life, simply isn't?
What if all those inspirational quotes from friends and family turned out to be a lie?
Nick and Colby are expecting their first baby together - to complete their perfect lives.
But when the baby arrives it's severely disfigured and deformed, sending Colby into a spiral of denial
and leaving Nick alone in his own deluded thoughts.
Nick's brother Pete decides to give him a work project that keeps Nick away from home for longer and longer each day, leaving Colby stuck in the house 24/7 and feeling no connection with her child.
Then the child begins to communicate with Colby in frightening ways…
Smudge, by two-time Emmy Award winner Rachel Axler (The Daily Show, Parks & Rec, The Veep),
is a very dark comedy about all the twists and turns life throws at us and our pre-conceived notions of parenthood.
"Axler has a comic’s gift for language that is precise and imaginative, but never showy...
What gives Smudge its charge is how she taps into a primal fear - giving birth to a monster -
and then considers it calmly from all angles." - NY Times
Directed by Stephen Lloyd-Coombs, Smudge stars Danielle Connor, Kieran Foster and Nick Hunter.
With set and costume design by Elia Bosshard, sound design by Michael Toisuta, lighting by Liam O’Keefe with Zara Thompson stage manager/operator.
The King’s Fools is an independent theatre company that works under three simple signposts:
“Contemporary, Comedic and Challenging”. Smudge is just that.
