The Imperial Bells Of China-Chime Music And...

Event Date: 25/05/2016, 08:00 pm

The Imperial Bells of China returns to Australia with a new production.
Touring to Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne in May and June 2016, The Imperial Bells of China returns to Australia with a new production which incorporates new elements including dance and folk songs.

In 1978, the 2,400-year-old bronze and stonechime-bells of Duke Zeng’s Tomb, together with a series of other ancient instruments, were unearthed in Hubei China. Inspired by these discoveries, Hubei Opera Theatre staged the Chime Music and Dance performance bringing song, musical instruments and dance together, and puts bronze, stone, jian drum and dozens of other ancient instruments on the same stage. Through this artistic style the beautiful ancient music and dance of China are brought alive together on one stage.

“Transport yourself back in time 2400 years and witness a truly unique and enchanting experience, said Elizabeth Wan Event Manager. “Immerse yourself in history and prepare to be astonished by the beautifully crafted Ancient Bells of China. Listen to their harmonious sounds and marvel at the spellbinding traditional dancers as they take you on a magical journey of both sight and sound all the way back to ancient China.”

Not only is the sound of the bells filled with romantic and sonorous melodies but they are also visually breathtaking due to their grand scale and elaborate cast technique. Discovering the music, cultural and spiritual history and being taken away by the ethnic folk dancers and musicians all set in 900s, is part of what makes this show unique.

Experience the lost world of “Ten Kingdoms” with exquisite ancient costumes and magnificent production.

The Imperial of China represents a ritual in China’s outbound cultural exchanges, it has been performed in front of Chinese President Xi Jin Ping, Egyptian Present Abdel Fattah, The king and queen of Belgium and many more during the official visits and all across 57 countries and regions for more than 1000 times.

Mansfield Park

Event Date: 20/04/2016, 07:30 pm

Operantics is excited to present the Australian Premiere of MANSFIELD PARK.
Following its popular and critical hits Cosi Fan Tutte (2015) and its January 2016 Double Bill of The Telephone and Gentlemen's Island, Operantics is excited to present the Australian Premiere of MANSFIELD PARK.

Jonathan Dove's operatic adaptation captures the heart of Jane Austen's timeless novel in a beautiful chamber opera set to Alasdair Middleton's libretto. The short season plays at the Independent Theatre, North Sydney on Wed 20, Sat 23 April 7.30pm and Sun 24 April at 2.30pm.

Fanny Price is the poor, overlooked niece of Sir Thomas and Lady Bertram, raised in the midst of privilege at Mansfield Park alongside her wealthy cousins. Quietly in love with her clueless cousin, Edmund, Fanny is neglected by nearly everyone, and often treated unkindly by her Aunt Norris.
With the sudden arrival of the charismatic Henry Crawford and his charming sister, Mary,
Fanny watches from the sidelines as seductions, intrigues, and indiscretions threaten the peace of the family.

Directed by Joseph Restubog, with musical direction by Keiren Brandt-Sawdy, Mansfield Park stars
Sonya Holowell as Fanny Price, Samanta Lestavel as Mary Crawford, Jermaine Chau as Lady Bertram,
Jessica Harper as Aunt Norris, Ian Warwick as Sir Thomas, Daniel Folesi as Henry Crawford,
Spencer Darby as Mr Rushworth and Amy Balales as Julia Bertram, as well as Operantics company founders artistic director Katie Miller-Crispe as Maria Bertram and artistic adviser Tristram Entwistle as Edmund Bertram.
Nathaniel Kong is piano accompanist, Emily Stuart-Jones production assistant with sumptuous costumes by Victoria Parsons.
Restubog said it was an exciting challenge to premiere a work from celebrated composer Jonathan Dove and working with such recognisable material from the legendary Jane Austen.

Everyone in the team is looking forward to presenting a unique, emotional, and truthful take to the story and the opera.

The Dectectives Handbook

Event Date: 21/04/2016, 07:30 pm

Set in Chicago, 1950 and follows Frank Thompson, police detective, as he is called into the station
New Musicals Australia in association with Hayes Theatre Co are thrilled to be able to announce the cast for THE DETECTIVE'S HANDBOOK which will play Hayes Theatre Co from 21 April until 7 May 2016.

“The Detective’s Handbook is an especially exciting show for us to be presenting at Hayes Theatre Co,” said Hayes Theatre Co Chair Neil Gooding. “Firstly, it is a new, totally original Australian musical, which is fairly rare in itself. Secondly, it is the first fully staged production of a show that has been guided through our New Musicals Australia program. The Detectives Handbook is smart, funny and has a distinctive voice, with music by Olga Solar and book and lyrics by Ian Ferrington.”

Director Jonathan Biggins has assembled a spectacular cast for the production, that pays homage to the golden age of detective novels, with a witty and intriguing script, in a Maltese Falcon meets Get Smart style spoof. Joining the cast are Justin Smith (Billy Elliott The Musical, RENT-original Australian cast), Sheridan Harbridge (Songs for the Fallen, An Officer and a Gentleman), Rob Johnson (Man of La Mancha, Triassic Parq), Tony Cogin (Moonshadow, Doctor Zhivago), Lara Mulcahy (Les Misérables, Mamma Mia) and Christopher Horsey (The Tap Pack, Hot Shoe shuffle).

The creative team also includes Michael Tyack as Musical Director, James Browne as Set and Costume Designer and Sian James-Holland as Lighting Designer.

The musical is set in Chicago, 1950 and follows Frank Thompson, police detective, as he is called into the station on Sunday morning to investigate the murder of two policemen in a disreputable neighbourhood. The Police Chief assigns him a new partner, Jimmy Hartman, a recently promoted Detective The ensuing investigation leads them into a world of seedy bars and femme fatales, in a hilarious clash of the old guard and the new recruit, determined to do it 'by the book'.
