Two of Australia’s most respected actors, ELAINE HUDSON and CHRIS ORCHARD come together to play a long-married couple in a new fast-paced comedy from GOLD AWGIE award-winning writer RIVKA HARTMAN. Using their brilliant, beautiful daughter as a foil, Lana and Ben use all the wit accumulated over their 40-year marriage in an effort to avoid one critical, irreconcilable issue. GIVING UP THE GHOST is a classical farce with euthanasia its serious and controversial underlying theme.

The Japanese Film Festival (17 Oct. – 2 Dec.) today announced its full program and first two guests for 2018: Australian-born rising star Shioli Kutsuna (Deadpool 2), delivers a stellar performance in highlight indie comedy Oh Lucy! and renowned Japanese auteur Isao Yukisada, for his turbulent coming-of-age drama River’s Edge.

The 2018 Festival will showcase 30 features and one fascinating documentary across Canberra (17 – 21 Oct.), Brisbane (24 – 28 Oct.), Perth (31 Oct. – 4 Nov.), Adelaide (9 – 11 Nov.), Sydney (15 – 25 Nov.) and Melbourne (22 Nov. – 2 Dec.).

Each city features carefully curated programming by The Japan Foundation, Sydney, from star-studded drama Yakiniku Dragon and tear-jerking true story The 8 Year Engagement, to viral genre-bender One Cut of the Dead, and one of the latest works from master filmmakers including Hirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters – winner of the Cannes Palme d'Or in 2018).

The Festival in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra and Perth kicks off with romantic detective mystery DESTINY: The Tale of Kamakura, touted as the live-action version of the Ghibli classic Spirited Away. An adaptation of Ryohei Saigan’s popular Kamakura Monogatari manga series by Takashi Yamazaki (Always: Sunset on Third Street), this modern fairy tale follows a writer into a netherworld of supernatural creatures to save his wife.

Sydney and Melbourne will open with viral microbudget genre-bender One Cut of the Dead. Direct from sold-out screenings across Japan, this action-packed spectacle is a brilliantly-disguised low-budget, high-concept take on the zombie comedy genre. Flowing seamlessly from monster mayhem, to hilarious satire, into a family comedy-drama, Shinichiro Ueda’s debut follows a film crew shooting a zombie flick, during which they are attacked by real zombies.

Pink Floyd Celebration
CCEntertainment will make a welcome return with the hugely popular ‘The Great Gig In The Sky’ celebration of Pink Floyd to Revesby Workers Club.

This brilliant homage concert features numerous gems from The Wall, Wish You Were Here and Dark Side Of The Moon showcased by some exceptional guest vocalists including Hugh Wilson (Lenny Kravitz band), Mitch Anderson (The Voice), Spencer Jones (The Voice), Susannah Mirana & Carmel Mesiti (Doug Parkinson Band).

Inimitable creative director Joseph Calderazzo (Jenny Morris band) will fine-tune a superb eight-piece band including Nick Meredith (guitars), Ian Tilley (bass), Matt Keegan (sax), Claudine Field (percussion), Casper Tromp (keys) Charmaine Ford (keys) and Bennet Livingston (drums).

With a reputation for breathtaking moments and stunning interpretations this show has sold out in Sydney venues since 2003 and is simply unmissable, so don’t wish you were there, book now!

This sumptuous cabaret peeps into the private, sensual world of a riveting Parisienne d’un certain age.

Bespoken Word is a monthly fresh new night of wonderful live storytelling & comedy.
Bespoken Word brings together Sydney's most interesting and exciting writers, entertainers and comedians for an evening of hilarious true storytelling!

The first half of the evening, hosted by Kate Iselin, sees our special guests telling short, pre-written stories on a specific theme. The second half of the evening, hosted by John Knowles is a live episode of his successful Comedy Festival show and ABC702 Radio Afternnoon segment 'I Can Top That!'. John and three guests take the stage to tell completely true yet totally unprepared stories inspired by topic suggestions from the audience.

The stories told at Bespoken Word can be shocking, others embarrassing, insightful, sweet or just plain hilarious. It's a smorgasbord of real life adventures and raw revelations with an emphasis on vulnerability, confession and laughter. Staged at the cosy Petersham Bowling Club, known for its welcoming community and artsy offerings, Bespoken Word aims to create a friendly modern version of traditional parlour entertainment.

“I’m Bobbie. As in Bobbie Dazzler, my Nan says, although I don’t know who that is. And this is my brother Hench. He’s got a face for radio.”

Hench is 16, Bobbie is 14. They’re home alone in Feltham with their dog Taliban; playing PlayStation, streaming porn, watching the world go by. Sometimes their mum Maggie visits, usually with empty pockets and empty promises.

Then Jenny shows up.

YEN explores a childhood lived without boundaries and the consequences of being forced to grow up on your own.
