Event Date: 16/11/2018, 07:30 pm

Lane Cove Theatre Company’s annual children’s production delves into the magical world of Dr Seuss
Seussical Jr is the award-winning hit Broadway show that brings many characters of the universally-loved children’s author into a fun, tuneful and toe-tapping musical about loyalty, friendship and the power of imagination.

Local theatre legend Trent Gardiner (The Snow Queen, Cinderella, King Arthur, Pinocchio) brings Seussical Jr lovingly to the Lane Cove stage. Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, Yertle the Turtle and all of your favourite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life
in a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Anastasia, Once on this Island).

Friendship, family and community are challenged but ultimately emerge triumphant in this unforgettable musical caper boasting a large cast of talented youngsters from across the north and north-west of Sydney.
Directed by Trent Gardiner with musical director Chelsea Taylor, choreographer Emma Ashley and assistant director Sarah Edwards,
Seussical Jr stars Josie Segal as Horton, Jeremy Segal as the Cat in the Hat, Leah Francis as Gertrude McFuzz,
Madeleine Biddle as Mayzie LaBird, Hugo Allen as JoJo, Alexei Belchenko & Haydon Ashley as Mr and Mrs Mayor,
Arnav Kapoor, Benjamin Walsh, Harry McMahon & Owen Emeleus as the Wickersham Brothers,
Holly Miller, Valeria Gonzalez-Lopez, Charlotte Pugh & Eve Emeleus as the Bird Girls,
Piper Kup-Ferroth as Sour Kangaroo, Rodney Stewart (the only adult in the show!) as Yertle the Turtle,
Daniel Timmins as the Grinch, plus an ensemble of Grace Patterson, Zara Gurney, Isobel Dias, Eloise Cardew,
Daniel Rees, Scarlett O’Connor, Natalie Shaw and Samantha Beregi.

The final play in Neil Simon’s quasi-autobiographical trilogy
“Maybe I don’t have to become a writer. I’ll just set up seats in the living room.”

The final play in Neil Simon’s quasi-autobiographical trilogy (preceded by Brighton Beach Memoirs and Biloxi Blues) continues the story of young Eugene Jerome, an aspiring comedy writer with dreams of a career in radio.

It’s 1949 and Eugene and his brother-cum-writing partner are stuck in the wilds of Brooklyn, with their increasingly remote father, disillusioned mother, and unreconstructed socialist grandfather. Meanwhile, their mother’s sister, who has ‘married well’ and now lives the good live on Park Avenue – a betrayal of her working-class roots in the eyes of her father – is attempting to reconcile her and Kate’s parents.

Life in this hard-scrabble, working-class Jewish household is an incessant round of baiting and bickering. But when the boys use their family as fodder for their comedy scripts, they learn early lessons in compassion and artistic integrity.

Simon’s reverie is bittersweet and nostalgic, but never sentimental. He chart’s Eugene’s coming-of-age and the family dynamics with truth, humanity and great humour.

“Simon may be the greatest comedy writer of the 20th century” Chicago Critic

A Hunters Hill Theatre production that'll knock your socks off!
A ‘maturing’ group of ladies from the local Women's Institute is desperately looking to raise money for leukaemia awareness.

They come up with the idea of posing for an ‘alternative’ calendar – with just a little help from strategically placed cupcakes and flower pots!

This sentimental play, based on a true story, is full of heart and, well, just a little bare-faced cheek.

***Don't miss this limited run of only 8 performances!***

Hunters Hill Theatre is proudly supporting the Australian Cancer Research Foundation and The Concord Hospital Survivorship Centre with this production of Calendar Girls.

Lake Honghu In Concert - Melbourne

Event Date: 08/11/2018, 07:30 pm

A CLASSIC OPERA ‘THE RED GUARDS ON LAKE HONGHU’
After 60 years of success and more than 3000 shows and now performing for the first time out of China in an Australian first, Hubei Symphony Orchestra of Hubei Provincial Opera and Dance Drama Theatre presents a modern concert production of the classic Chinese opera, Lake Honghu featuring seven principal singers and a chorus of forty.

These milestone concerts will take place at the Sydney Opera House on November 4 with celebrated Australian guest conductor Vanessa Scammell (My Fair Lady, The Merry Widow, South Pacific) and Melbourne Recital Centre led by resident conductor Luo Yilin on November 7 & 8.

The original opera was first performed in 1958 in Wuhan and was staged in Beijing in October 1959. Based on the true story, Han Ying and Liu Chuang led a team of guardians defending their homeland in the scenic Lake Honghu area in the summer of 1930. Interesting to note by means of its famous lake, Honghu City produces forty kinds of fish and an abundance of plants, such as the lotus, reed and a type of lack algae.

Blending western style opera with traditional Chinese and Hubei folk songs and lyrical ballad, the melody is cheerful, full of passion and shows the revolutionary pioneer’s love of the hometown and hope for the happy lives and future. The music structure contains both strength of the Chinese traditional opera and English Opera. The lyrics and the music tell the story and focus on emphasising the character’s internal emotions.
