Mendelssohn's elegiac second quartet and Smetana's beloved quartet, 'From my Life', will delight and transport with poignant expressions of Romanticism. 

Complimenting its hugely successful Prelude in Tea and Supper & Song concert series, 
Café Culture is the Independent Theatre’s new casual concert format, presenting the best of chamber music in an informal,  conversational style. 
Held in the beautiful foyers of the Independent Theatre, Café Culture features short performances interspersed with opportunities to chat with the artists. Café Culture is a relaxed experience for the dedicated concert goer, and the perfect introduction for those new to chamber music.

United by their passion for chamber music, the Enigma Quartet (Marianne Edwards, Kerry Martin, Elizabeth Woolnough and Rowena MacNeish)has a pure and joyful love for what they do and how they share with audiences. Comprising successful artists in their own right, each boasting coveted positions in Australia's top orchestras, their journey has been an organic progression from music students busking on the streets of Sydney to the finest of concert stages. Enigma’s persistent development has seen the quartet carve out an enviable reputation as one of Australia's best. In 2020 they will release their debut CD with ABC Classics and tour to Hawaii with shakuhachi master Riley Lee to perform ‘Five Elements’.

In this concert they present two of the Romantic period’s most beautiful works for string quartet! Don’t miss the opportunity to swoon to the music then get up close and personal with the musicians in the first of this exciting new series.

Except their lives are in danger if they go out after dark. Except they aren't really your average young girls at all.

'Girl Shut Your Mouth' is an exciting dark comedy by Australian playwright Gita Bezard about ordinary living in an extraordinarily violent world. When Katie gets shot, she is invited to go to a place where people are friendly, the drinks are minty and no one tells you how to live your life. Her friends, Mia and Grace, wracked with jealousy, resolve to join Katie on her journey. The only problem is the price of admission.

LONDON'S ROYAL OPERA HOUSE LIVE CINEMA SEA...

The Royal Opera House’s Live Cinema Season returns to screens across Australia with a brand-new program featuring twelve breathtaking live performances of world-class opera and ballet direct from London’s 2019/2020 season.

Audiences in Australia are never far from the action at the Royal Opera House, with select filmed live performances coming to the big screen at 20 Event Cinemas nationwide and 5 Village Cinemas in Victoria and Launceston from November 2019 to August 2020.

The 2019/20 program includes: Peter Wright’s beloved Christmas classic The Nutcracker (recorded from 2016); Ludwig van Beethoven’s uplifting masterpiece Fidelio; a glorious production of iconic classical ballet Swan Lake; and the Opera Australia co-produced Cavelleria Rusticana/Pagliacci, which combines two opera classics in a resplendent re-creation of life in a south Italian village.

This is the fifth screen program, winners will receive a voucher in the mail.

5th Screening: La Boheme 14, 15, 18 March. Session times vary depending on location

Set in 19th-century Paris, the opera is packed with beautiful music, including lyrical arias, celebratory choruses and a poignant final scene over which the composer himself wept. Richard Jones’ character-led production perfectly captures La bohème’s mixture of comedy, romance and tragedy, with striking designs by Stewart Laing.

The Price Of - by Western Sydney writer-director Bree Spaccavento for new company NT2 – sees a woman accidentally summon a supernatural creature
who forces her to make a deal with a high price: sacrifice a life for the gift of a lifetime. Starring Henry Taylor, Taleece Paki and Amy Lawler.

In Julie Barnett’s Antisocial Media, Sarah (Scarlet Hunter) is addicted to Facebook and Twitter – with dire consequences!
Also starring David Loney and Cris Bocchi, directed by Peter Gizariotis.

Some days you just wake up on the wrong side of the nest! John Bavoso’s brilliant take on the Greek legend in Prometheus Shrugs sees the eagle charged with eating the mythical titan’s liver each day, grow weary of his role! When Heracles shows up, an unlikely friendship ensues. Zoe Harvey directs William Baltyn, Prateek Chatterjee and Daniel d’Amico.

Happiness is overrated in Cathy Friend’s witty Tea Party for Sad People, with Zoe Sadler, Thana Vulcik, Julia Pennisi and Joss Chalmers, directed by Jeremy Lowrencev for Umbr Productions.

Short+Sweet veterans writer Pheona Mulligan and director Felicity Burke team up in Fault Lines, when a chance meeting between a businessman and a woman living rough draws out their common humanity… With Haki Pepo Olu Crisden and Niki James.

In The Line, an escapee surprises his would-be captors. Fergus Maclagan directs Felix Carlyle’s play
starring Morgan Harpur, Lloyd Darling and David Hodgkins.

Another veteran short play play writer Gerry Greenland returns with Crash Test Drama winner Susie Meets Her Match: a teenager starts her family unravelling with shocking & hilarious revelations. Jyotsna Sharma directs Adam Dorrington, Debbie Neilson, Sonia Hamdard & Jonathon Brown.

Adelaide Fringe Fest - Mike, Dave And Dave Do...

Mike, Dave and Dave do Tarantino. Tarantino is the creepy uncle that Mike, Dave and Dave never had.
The deceptively titled four-piece, Mike, Dave and Dave, includes a fourth member - a beast who shreds on a telecaster, Keith McGloin. This newly formed, Adelaide-based, band started out as two separate duos – David Lane and Michael O’Flaherty (who have covered Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan in previous fringe seasons), and David Drummond and Keith McGloin (who were founding members of their previous band, Causing Hammock). About a year ago, the two David’s began working together when Mike and Keith relocated to working in Darwin and the APY lands. Now that everyone has returned to Adelaide they are regularly gigging around the city under Wasabi Entertainment, playing an eclectic mix of pop music from the 50s to more recent hits. All members sing and play fretted instruments: David Drummond on bass; Keith, Mike and Lane regularly swapping a banjo, telecaster and an acoustic guitar among each other; and David Lane’s feet hold down the rhythm with a tambourine and homemade kick drum that was constructed out of an old suitcase. The band has a strong focus on vocals, using all four voices to establish rich harmonies reminiscent of the Beatles and the Eagles. After the Fringe, the band find out what their official name will be (through a lot of soul searching and meditation) and will begin producing their first original album which they hope to release before the end of 2020.
