A fiery fusion of burlesque, dance & circus, Matador takes us on an emotionally charged journey through love and its many faces; from the first moments you lay your eyes on that someone special, the butterflies, the flirting and sometimes, the doubt. A journey of self discovery, identity and sexuality, of lust, sex and passion. The show also explores the trials and tribulations of love, from the pain of unrequited love to the effects of infidelity on a relationship. Matador is a celebration of love, friendship and the bonds that hold us together.

Comprised of a colourful cast of 14 incredible performers, Matador features non stop entertainment from start to finish. High energy commercial dance pieces, touching contemporary and ballet acts and steamy latin numbers are intertwined with saucy burlesque acts, pole dancing and hair raising aerial and circus acts.

Win a double pass to the Riverside Theatre, Paramatta
Now in its fifth year, Sharp Short Theatre is a chance for the next wave of theatre talent to learn from industry mentors and showcase their stories on Riverside’s stage.

Sharp Short Theatre is a short play competition for writers, directors and performers who are 18 years and under, and aims to uncover and cultivate the next generation of Australia theatre practitioners and artists. Sharp Short Theatre commences with three days of heats featuring entrants from around the state, the very best of these will perform again at the finals on 14th June.

Plays come from all theatrical genres giving the entrants a chance to play to let their imaginations run wild! For 2019, productions in the heats will touch on a vast array of themes important to Australia’s youth of today, including racism and discrimination, bullying, online dating, gender equality, teen issues, popular culture and political satire.

Previous winners of Sharp Short Theatre include Sydney’s Sofia Nolan who won Best Actor in 2015 and Best Director in 2016. Sofia has gone on to work in TV, theatre and film, including Belvoir St Theatre’s production of The Wolves in February this year and the upcoming Warner Bros blockbuster Godzilla vs Kong.

Nolan says “I wouldn’t have been able to start my professional career without Sharp Short Theatre. It is such a great program for people wanting to break into the industry in Australia. I can speak highly enough of it!”

Sharp Short Theatre is a fantastic opportunity for audiences to catch a glimpse of the future of performance in Australia – and the future is bright!

SWEENEY TODD will be presented for six shows only in both Sydney and Melbourne from 13 to 23 June to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s ground-breaking musical thriller that transports audiences into the atmospheric underbelly of 19th century London.

Exiled barber Sweeney Todd will be played by quintessential leading man ANTHONY WARLOW and the incomparable GINA RILEY plays the tragi-comic role of pie-maker Mrs. Lovett. With soaring arias of vengeance and yearning, the darkly-comic SWEENEY TODD: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street combines the vocal power and sweep of opera with the aching humanity of musical theatre.

The story, inspired by a tale serialised in a Penny Dreadful in 1846-47, centres on the unjustly exiled barber who returns to London seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads to Mrs Lovett, the proprietor of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber shop. Desperate times lead Sweeney Todd to plot diabolical schemes against those who have wronged him.

BESPOKEN WORD & I Can Top That! at the Petersham Bowlo
John Knowles returns in 2019 with a new season of 'I Can Top That!' on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. Hosting a live episode of his regular ABC702 Afternoons with James Valentine segment ‘ I Can Top That!’, John and three special guest comedians tell completely true - totally unprepared stories inspired by random topics suggested by you the audience.
In the first half off the evening, BESPOKEN WORD brings together writers, comedians, poets and improvisers in an intimate celebration of great storytelling. You’ll see everything from hilarious confessions to improvised Shakespearean verse to jaw-dropping true tales told by the people that experienced them.
