Analects Of Aliveness

Event Date: 15/10/2022, 06:45 pm

Autobiographical dance by artists with Down syndrome. Ask questions, be entertained, be enlightened.
Created and Performed by: The emotion21 dancers

Directed by: Tristan Sinclair

‘Analects of Aliveness’ is an anthology of dance moments that invite you into the world-view, aspirations and fantasies of dancers with Down syndrome. This two-part performance will entertain, enlighten and inspire you. Be astounded by the passion of our dancing, and then hear us speak in a follow-up discussion about our work and efforts as dancers with a disability.

Moving through high-camp jazz numbers, meditative introspection and bold contemporary choreographies, ‘Analects of Aliveness’ is bursting with undiluted moments of zest and intimacy. Be thoroughly entertained as you are welcomed into our world. As artists with Down syndrome we have unique stories and perspectives for you to discover; let us enrich your understanding of living with a disability, deepen our relationship with you; enlighten you to our personhood. Support us by bringing your curiosity and willingness to discover. Sit back, watch and listen, or put up your hand and take the chance to connect with a person with Down syndrome!

Analects means a collection of quotes; a gathering of moments each belonging to their own larger body. Aliveness, in dance, is the embodiment and expression of our personal essence through instinctual and authentic movement. ‘Analects of Aliveness’ is a gathering of autobiographical dance moments, that when threaded together weave a meaning greater than the sum of its parts.

A hilarious and heartfelt story of strength, resilience and triumph
Fresh from an acclaimed run at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Lisa bravely, honestly and hilariously tells her story of strength, resilience and triumph.

At 48 years old, Lisa Sharpe discovered Stand-Up Comedy and found the feisty voice that she had as a child. This show is about discovering how and where she lost it as she weaves and twists through her stories of growing up in an Australian small town in the 70’s and 80’s and things that should not have been said or done to any young woman.

The audience will leave the theatre feeling like they can achieve anything and no-one will ever dare to ignore their voice again. Now a 52 year old woman, her voice is louder and stronger than ever. This is a story that most women and anyone who has ever found it difficult to be heard, will relate to.

Flickery The Art Of Female Pleasure

Event Date: 14/10/2022, 09:30 pm

A comedy cabaret about clits, tits and other bits, featuring the fantasy and fables of Madame Lush.
Dip your fingers in for a delicious evening with professional poet, Miss Webster and Cabaret Connoisseur, Madame Lush in an hour celebrating women, pleasure and all things orgasmic.

They are wet with excitement to debut 'Flickery' at Melbourne's 40th year of Fringe after entertaining WA audiences since 2016 in sold out seasons of 'Turn Me Kiss Me Flip Me F#*k Me', 'I Want to F#ck With You' and 'Whip Me Lick Me Beat Me Eat Me".

Luscious innuendo, sexual story telling, party games and flickers of burlesque, will make the ladies gush and the others blush.

Madame Lush and Miss Webster tease and titillate the audience into a quiver of laughter as they talk about female masturbation; or as they like to call it, #flickery for this generation.

Clitoris comedy at its best.
Are you ready for a night of self pleasure?

How To Be A Person When The World Is End...

Event Date: 18/10/2022, 08:00 pm

A contemporary analysis of how it feels to be alive; through love, grief, sex, and the Apocalypse.
How To Be A Person When The World Is Ending
Written by: Myfanwy Hocking
Directed by: Meg Dunn

“I was expecting a knock. I was expecting a crash. I was expecting a fucking bang. I was expecting the walls to shatter and the ground to open to molten magma and my house to float down the street. I was expecting it to boil then freeze then boil again, but as far as I’ve seen, the end of the world is watching shit TV with you fucks.”

The world is ending. For real this time. Maybe. It’s a very big deal. Four friends are waiting expectantly. A couple plays out their parts. A girly gets really buff. People try some kinky stuff. And a sad clown gets up and goes to work.

HOW TO BE A PERSON WHEN THE WORLD IS ENDING is a post dramatic exploration of what it means to be a member of Generation Z at present. It captures the essence of hurt, apathy, boredom and hilarity that comes with being expected to exist in an expansive way whilst being told we have a few good years left. Exploring relationships, work culture, Dungeons and Dragons, nihilism, pessimism and porn, it is a funny, shocking, meditation on youth. Written by Myfanwy Hocking, HOW TO BE A PERSON is a dynamic, challenging, new Australian work that explores the hyper lyrical side of writing. Performed by a phenomenal cast of artists, audiences will be left in awe of this bold new production.

Melbourne Fringe will be hosting the show’s national premiere, off the back of the Edinburgh Festival. This show is the proud recipient of the George Fairfax Memorial Award.
