Murder Village: An Improvised Whodunnit

Event Date: 28/09/2022, 06:00 pm

It’s Agatha Christie, improvised!
Following sold-out seasons in Brisbane and Melbourne, Murder Village is hitting Sydney for the first time with five cunningly improvised whodunnits at Sydney Fringe 2022.

Immerse yourself in the cozy world of a 1950s Agatha Christie novel as Melbourne’s funniest improvisers craft eccentric characters and perplexing mysteries from your suggestions. Any of the village’s suspicious denizens could be dispatched at any moment, and any of them could be the murderer. It’s your secret ballot votes that determine who lives, who dies, and who will be unmasked as the culprit.

In Murder Village, the local police inspector may be incompetent but thankfully there is always an amateur sleuth on hand to sort the red herrings from the tell-tale clues. See if you can solve the crime first... whether you see one show or all of them, no chapter of this critically acclaimed show is the same!

“Completely enthralling…” - Theatre People

“A classic English murder mystery that’s fully improvised and loaded with humour.” - The Age

“The perfect recipe for murder.” - Weekend Notes

AUSTRALIA DAY by JONATHAN BIGGINS
9th September - 25th September 2022

Directed by JASPER KYLE

With a script snappier than a cranky crocodile, the Council of a regional NSW town appoints a Planning Committee to thrash out the details for the most hallowed date on the Australian calendar - Australia Day. This satirical gem pulls apart such heady issues as which snags to serve at a multi-cultural barbie, politics, patriotism and progress - with something to offend just about everyone!

The Appleton Ladies Potato Race

Event Date: 23/09/2022, 08:00 pm

JOYFUL AUSSIE COMEDY AT THE PAVILION THEATRE
The Castle Hill Players are excited to present the Australian stage comedy hit The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race, written by Melanie Tait and directed by Bernard Teuben. From 23 Sept to 15 Oct.
Appleton is a quintessential Australian country town where men are real men, women are real women... and vegetables are not used in cake.
But things are changing. City slickers, tree changers and refugees are moving in. Appleton might just have to face the new century!
However… simmering tensions are about to boil over… Prodigal daughter Penny has returned from the big smoke.
Appleton’s annual Potato Race has never been something Penny cared about, until she discovers that the men’s prize is five times more than the women’s.
Now she has a bee in her bonnet! The towns folk are about to get a lesson in gender parity... and Penny is going to get a lesson in history.

A sparkling comedy about change and how we see our future.

“Tait’s characters are easily relatable,” says director and Castle Hill veteran Bernard Teuben, “and audiences will find themselves being drawn in to take sides until the final showdown. And there are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments along the way!”

ALICE IN WONDERLAND

Event Date: 24/09/2022, 01:30 pm

Royal Botanic Garden Sydney
Winners will receive a family pass.
This school holiday, tumble down the rabbit hole as the Australian Shakespeare Company presents Lewis Carroll’s absurd & wickedly clever classic, Alice in Wonderland, in the beautiful Royal Botanic Garden Sydney from 23 Sept to 9 October 2022.

Brought to life beautifully in Glenn Elston’s highly acclaimed production, this magical tale is stunningly lifted right from the pages. Your favourite assortment of curious characters are all waiting for you... meet the skittish, constantly late White Rabbit, sing along with the Dodo and other birds in the Caucus race and meet the pepper-obsessed Duchess and her extremely crazy cook. The Cheshire Cat will leave you with a grin and you can’t fail to miss Humpty Dumpty on his way to meet Tweedledum and Tweedledee. And what might seem slightly silly becomes absurd as the Mad Hatter arrives with the March Hare and Dormouse to have a grand old time with Alice at the tea party.

This is an enchanting world of song, dance & interactive games that will have the whole family dizzy & giddy with nonsense!
