Your Silence Will Not Protect You

Event Date: 17/03/2023, 09:30 pm

Adelaide Fringe Festival
Do you remember the panic attack you had the first, and only, time you fisted someone? Gavin does. And it was hilarious.

Having tackled bullying and body image, language and love, acclaimed queer artist Gavin Roach has caved into demand and is finally offering up a more “happy” and “fun” show. This surely will not end well.

The third and final instalment of The Anxiety Trilogy, Your Silence Will Not Protect You is a joyous and illuminating adventure about coming to terms with mental illness, navigating alcohol abuse and trying to figure out why the hell you didn’t say something sooner.

A Southern Fairytale

Event Date: 16/03/2023, 08:00 pm

Adelaide Fringe Festival
Based on true events, A Southern Fairytale artfully illuminates the challenges facing a young, gay Christian growing up in the Deep South. As family and friends impose extreme measures to reshape him to fit their ideal, a young man is left isolated, alone and dealing with the very real impacts of conversion therapy, excommunication, and a father who believes that a demon has possessed his son.

Will he ever thrive - or even just simply survive - if he chooses to live as he was born? Is happiness possible when the only faith you have ever known, not to mention everyone you love, demands that you are wrong and living a life of sin?

"There is a depth of wisdom here which needs to be shared with the world." - World Pride New York

Yonni is a seventeen-year-old gay Jewish kid. His devoutly religious family is preparing for the weekly shabbat, but he can think only about his schoolmate, Adam, with whom he is infatuated.

As the evening’s events unfold - some of them real, some of them imagined - a deeply personal story about first love and infatuation expands to interrogate the difficult intersection of religion and queerness.

"Roach and Stuart’s combined ability to conjure such vivid and concise imagery and environment throughout the show was a true highlight." -Farrago Magazine

The Shy Manifesto By Michael Ross

Event Date: 14/03/2023, 07:30 pm

Adelaide Fringe Festival
Seventeen-year-old Callum is proud to be shy and he thinks you should be too – because what this noisy, crazy world needs right now is a bit more self-restraint.

Tonight, he is to address an audience of radical shy comrades and incite the meek to finally rise up and inherit the earth.

But memories of the previous night’s drunken escapades at a classmate’s end-of-term party keep intruding, and threaten to upend the fragile identity he has so carefully created for himself.

The Shy Manifesto is a bittersweet coming-of-age comedy/drama about a shy boy (expertly performed by Jake Matricardi) who is fed up of constantly being told to come out of his shell.

"In its strongest moments, the play does well to articulate the real pain of being a teenager." - Exeunt Magazine

“Ross, Matricardi, and director Gavin Roach masterfully manipulate complex themes surrounding identity, coming of age, and coming out, in a perfect little gem of a production.” - Farrago Magazine

Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra concert in Chatswood NSW
Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra returns to the magnificent Concourse Concert Hall in Chatswood
after a spectacular 50th anniversary year highlighted by packed houses and critical acclaim.

On Saturday 11 March, conductor Paul Terracini (below left) leads the orchestra in a concert featuring two towering Romantic favourites: the iconic Grieg Piano Concerto – featuring locally-born pianist Kathryn Selby AM – and Tchaikovsky’s much-loved 6th Symphony, the Pathetique.
Plus two more recent composers’ exploration of contemporary issues in crime against humanity and the connection between man and nature: young local composer Angus Davison’s The Laws of Motion and Martinu’s Ode to Lidice.
Hailed by the Australian press as a ‘formidable talent’ and ‘Australia’s pre-eminent chamber music pianist’,
Kathryn Selby AM is the Artistic Director of the popular nationally touring Selby & Friends concert series.
A former student of the Curtis Institute of Music, the Juilliard School and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Miss Selby has won countless awards, accolades and competition prizes from around the world.
She has performed with several of Australia’s top orchestras and appeared in many internationally renowned festivals. She has contributed significantly to the musical landscape of Australia and continues to delight audiences with her nationally touring concert series.

Grieg’s first and only piano concerto was written in 1868; it reflects the Norwegian landscape and is full of haunting, lyrical melodies.
One of the concert repertoire’s most spectacular piano works, it established him not only as one of the foremost composers of his time but also as the most influential of Norwegian artists.
Tchaikovsky’s final symphony – the ‘Pathetique’ - is indeed passionate and emotional and described by the composer as “the best thing I ever composed or shall compose”.
