MY FAIRY TROUBLEMAKER

Event Date: 16/02/2023, 06:00 pm

In cinemas nationally (excluding Tasmania, & NT)
Winners will receive a family pass voucher which can be used at any showing of the film.

Violetta (337), a curious and cheeky fairy, gets lost in the human world. To find her way back to the fairy world, she teams up with the human girl Maxie (12) and discovers her true destiny.
Violetta is in training to become a tooth fairy, but instead of conjuring up fun toys like a real tooth fairy all she manages is... violets. Now the annual exam is coming up: Only the fairies that pass it receive the gem that transports them to and from the human world in order to collect the milk teeth and magic a toy. Of course, Violetta fails the exam gloriously. But Violetta wouldn't be Violetta if that would keep her from anything. Without further ado, she steals another fairy’s mission and gem and smuggles herself into the human world. There she ends up in Maxie's new room.
Maxie and her mother have just moved from the countryside to the city and she feels completely out of place. She loves nature and misses her beautiful garden. She finds it hard to see her mother's boyfriend and his sons Tarek and Sami as her new family. But then she meets Violetta, who is looking for Sami's tooth.
Because Violetta destroyed her gem during her rough landing she is now trapped in the human world. Maxie and Violetta strike a deal: Maxie helps the fairy find her way back to the fairy world. In exchange Violetta will do magic and return Maxie to her old countryside house.
Violetta agrees - even though she has yet to conjure up anything more than flowers. And so their adventure begins…
They have to save the green oasis of the city - an old factory ruin, overgrown with beautiful plants and flowers. And suddenly, Violetta’s supposed weakness to conjure up flowers turns out to be a very special ability. Together they manage to find the secret portal that brings Violetta
back to the fairy world. And in the human world, Maxie finds her place in the city and in her new family.

Laugh Out Loud in Longueville!
After finishing 2022 with the mind-bending brilliance of Constellations and the hi-jinx of the pantomime Hercules, Lane Cove Theatre Company start 2023 with laugh out loud fun.
The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society's Production of “Macbeth” is an hilarious view of potential mishaps in the world of amateur theatre. The fearless ladies of the Farndale Dramatic Society, along with their Producer and Stage Manager offer up an audacious rendering of Shakespeare’s classic Macbeth. This, they hope, will guarantee them a place in the Drama Finals at Wellyn Garden City.
The ladies have been rehearsing for months … however the old theatre adage, “it will be right on the night” does not come to pass, and whatever can go wrong in a theatre production does and how the ‘Ladies’ deal with it creates chaos. ‘Anyone who has ever participated in amateur theatre will have understood and enjoyed this show safe in the knowledge that at least nothing ever goes quite so wrong in real life. Hopefully.” Noda

A Few Good Men

Event Date: 08/02/2023, 08:00 pm

Castle Hill Players presents A Few Good Men at the Pavilion Theatre.
A Few Good Men
By Aaron Sorkin
Directed by Annette van Roden

3 Feb - 25 Feb

This Broadway hit tells the story of two military lawyers – one callow and unmotivated, the other impassioned and driven - assigned to represent two United States Marines accused of Conspiracy to Commit Murder of a fellow Marine. In the course of defending their clients, the lawyers uncover a high-level conspiracy designed to eliminate weaker soldiers in the name of patriotism.

Aaron Sorkin’s ground-breaking debut play, later adapted into the 1992 Academy Award nominated film of the same name, was inspired by actual events that took place at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in July 1986.

A Few Good Men considers the idea that a Marine’s private code of unquestioning loyalty to “Unit, Corps, God, Country”, breeds a dark flipside of self-righteousness.

The title came from the U.S. Marine Corps recruitment campaign, "We're looking for a few good men”. The play explores and exposes what it means to truly be a “good man” in the United States Military.

Yonni is a seventeen-year-old gay Jewish kid. His devoutly religious family is preparing for the weekly shabbat, but he can think only about his schoolmate, Adam, with whom he is infatuated.

As the evening’s events unfold - some of them real, some of them imagined - a deeply personal story about first love and infatuation expands to interrogate the difficult intersection of religion and queerness.

"Roach and Stuart’s combined ability to conjure such vivid and concise imagery and environment throughout the show was a true highlight." -Farrago Magazine

A Monster Is Announced

Event Date: 06/02/2023, 07:00 pm

Midsumma Festival - Melbourne
Starring Possible Prince X
The mysterious Possible Prince X has invited you to an abandoned manor, on a desert island, that is also a train. You have no idea why you were invited, all you know is that somewhere in this room, there’s a monster. Throughout your stay, guests start to drop off one by one, and your only hope for survival is your host, who insists on playing his original songs before offering any help (indeed, some things are worse than death). If you make it through this gauntlet of songs and stories, you are guaranteed to maybe survive, though probably not, and you’ll possibly be granted safe travels back to the mainland, though I wouldn’t count on it.

Part murder mystery, part pop concert, with just a touch of rock eisteddfod, A Monster Is Announced will keep you guessing until its final moments... or yours.

As seen on The Project, Amazon Prime and his 60+ million views online!

Your favourite Jewish, cancer-surviving, lawyer-turned-comedian, Michael Shafar, is back at FRINGE WORLD with a BRAND NEW show!

In his funniest (and edgiest) show yet, Shafar explains how to reverse the brutal history of colonisation, why women should drunk-drive, which religion is correct and the importance of chemo patients being allowed to smoke. Fun for the whole family!

Shafar receives critical acclaim everywhere he performs, but his favourite ever review was from his oncologist who simply said: "Great show, Michael. You were well worth the chemo."

If that's not enough, this review sums up Michael's comedy perfectly:
