The Shy Manifesto By Michael Ross

Event Date: 14/03/2023, 07:30 pm

Adelaide Fringe Festival
Seventeen-year-old Callum is proud to be shy and he thinks you should be too – because what this noisy, crazy world needs right now is a bit more self-restraint.

Tonight, he is to address an audience of radical shy comrades and incite the meek to finally rise up and inherit the earth.

But memories of the previous night’s drunken escapades at a classmate’s end-of-term party keep intruding, and threaten to upend the fragile identity he has so carefully created for himself.

The Shy Manifesto is a bittersweet coming-of-age comedy/drama about a shy boy (expertly performed by Jake Matricardi) who is fed up of constantly being told to come out of his shell.

"In its strongest moments, the play does well to articulate the real pain of being a teenager." - Exeunt Magazine

“Ross, Matricardi, and director Gavin Roach masterfully manipulate complex themes surrounding identity, coming of age, and coming out, in a perfect little gem of a production.” - Farrago Magazine

Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra concert in Chatswood NSW
Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra returns to the magnificent Concourse Concert Hall in Chatswood
after a spectacular 50th anniversary year highlighted by packed houses and critical acclaim.

On Saturday 11 March, conductor Paul Terracini (below left) leads the orchestra in a concert featuring two towering Romantic favourites: the iconic Grieg Piano Concerto – featuring locally-born pianist Kathryn Selby AM – and Tchaikovsky’s much-loved 6th Symphony, the Pathetique.
Plus two more recent composers’ exploration of contemporary issues in crime against humanity and the connection between man and nature: young local composer Angus Davison’s The Laws of Motion and Martinu’s Ode to Lidice.
Hailed by the Australian press as a ‘formidable talent’ and ‘Australia’s pre-eminent chamber music pianist’,
Kathryn Selby AM is the Artistic Director of the popular nationally touring Selby & Friends concert series.
A former student of the Curtis Institute of Music, the Juilliard School and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Miss Selby has won countless awards, accolades and competition prizes from around the world.
She has performed with several of Australia’s top orchestras and appeared in many internationally renowned festivals. She has contributed significantly to the musical landscape of Australia and continues to delight audiences with her nationally touring concert series.

Grieg’s first and only piano concerto was written in 1868; it reflects the Norwegian landscape and is full of haunting, lyrical melodies.
One of the concert repertoire’s most spectacular piano works, it established him not only as one of the foremost composers of his time but also as the most influential of Norwegian artists.
Tchaikovsky’s final symphony – the ‘Pathetique’ - is indeed passionate and emotional and described by the composer as “the best thing I ever composed or shall compose”.

The world premiere of a hilarious and risqué musical, Melbourne
Dickie Gross Productions Pty Ltd Presents
The world premiere of a hilarious and risqué musical.

In a stroke of genius casting Gross announced the leads will feature married couple CHRISTIE WHELAN BROWNE who will play Kate and ROHAN BROWNE who will play Rupert who will play a married couple,

Dick Gross AM, writer, and composer said, “In this buoyant, occasionally saucy musical, the protagonists fight the system to stay together. Twenty songs explore this journey.” he added, “In this play, everyone cannot wait to split except for one couple. What is the nature of the long-term, mature love in our lives?”

Gross went on to explain the play. What if you lived in a world where divorce was compulsory? But you were still in love?

Lifelong love is unbearable. In this dystopian world where all marriages must end at 13 years, a couple fights to stay together for love.

Kate and Rupert live in a world where love is not forever …in their world as life expectancy has grown from 35 to 85, those extra 50 years make lifelong marriage unendurable: awful in fact. So, by law, everyone must divorce after 13 years.

BUT Kate and Rupert are in love.

Explore not only the nature of love in its middle stages but also confront middle-aged issues that we all must face at some time such as having children or not, the joys of coffee, post-menopausal sex, masturbation, and the male midlife crisis!

Kate and Rupert fight the 13-year rule and declare …. Marriage must live on …….

Join us on this incredibly special musical journey.

Wonderful, timely and poignant.
Opening in Adelaide on International Women's Day!

After a successful debut run in New York, Sydney based theatre company, Powersuit Productions is bringing their brand-new Australian work home.

Katie’s cheeky, brave and sensitive. Will is witty and warm with a huge heart. They’re both single…and they’re both kinda angry. Together they host ‘Don’t Even Get Me Started’, the show where they bitch about the fact that they’re straight up done.

When they are home together, they’re safe, they’re happy, no-one can hurt them. They have everything they need. Almost.

What happens when you put yourself out there, and try to find love as a woman or a gay man? Is their friendship enough to keep them safe?

Set in Sydney Australia, The Culture is a story about deep and enduring friendship, and the pitfalls… and sometimes dangers of finding love in a modern world. Audiences are welcomed into Will and Katie’s living room and into an important wider conversation.

"A spunky, fast-talking, take no prisoners twosome…Wonderful, timely, and poignant." (The Front Row Centre, NYC)

THE BLUE CAFTAN tells the story of a forbidden love triangle
Please note it is showing across Australia at most Independent theatres, check their website in the Contact tab for more details. Winners will be mailed a voucher
THE BLUE CAFTAN tells the story of a forbidden love triangle exploring mortality, sexuality and the dying art of traditional handcrafts.
Mina (Lubna Azabal) and her husband Halim (Saleh Bakri) run a small business making and selling bespoke caftans in one of Morocco’s oldest medinas. Halim is a master of his trade, and Mina a canny saleswoman, though their wares don’t come cheap and traditional dress is falling out of favour.
Woven with exquisite care, Maryam Touzani’s Cannes Un Certain Regard winning drama reveals a beautiful love triangle in a small Moroccan town. (Where gay relations are forbidden). Touzani explores a complex marriage with tenderness and grace in a sincere and superbly performed film that unfolds in unexpected and heartening ways.
