Ngapa William Cooper

Event Date: 10/07/2023, 08:00 pm

Join the Australian Youth Orchestra as they perform three sweeping works at the Sydney Opera House
Join the Australian Youth Orchestra as they perform three sweeping works inspired by the tenacity of the human spirit in times of darkness.

Ngapa William Cooper was born out of a rich collaboration between Nigel Westlake, Lior, and Dr Lou Bennett AM, with additional lyrics by Sarah Gory. With Westlake leading from the podium, these artists will bring their dynamic stage presence to the orchestral premiere commissioned by AYO. This work explores the strength and compassion of Yorta Yorta activist Uncle William Cooper.

The performance will open with Westlake’s The Glass Soldier, dedicated to WW1 veteran and artist Nelson Ferguson. This will be followed by Beneath the Waves, from Westlake’s 2022 score for motion picture Blueback, featuring star cellist Sharon Grigoriyan.

Ngapa William Cooper will also be performed at Llewellyn Hall, Canberra on Sunday 9 July. For more information and to book tickets for this concert, go to ayo website.

When Dad Married Fury

Event Date: 01/07/2023, 07:30 pm

The classic trope of the rich man and the gold digger
70 year-old Dad is worth a cool $100 million. His beneficiaries are his two sons… were… until Dad married Fury an American beauty queen half his age. There is no pre-nup.
Family greed, jealousy and recriminations bob around in a sea of verbal hydrochloric acid in true David Williamson style; in the end, money is not what connects the family, but committed relationships.

Murder Village

Event Date: 27/06/2023, 07:30 pm

Murder Village: An Improvised Whodunnit - Sydney
It’s Agatha Christie, improvised! After winning the Meraki Arts Bar Remount Award at Sydney Fringe in 2022, Murder Village returns to Sydney for more cunningly improvised whodunnits.

Immerse yourself in the cozy world of a 1950s Agatha Christie-style novel as the country’s funniest improvisers craft eccentric characters and perplexing mysteries from your suggestions. Any of the village’s suspicious denizens could be dispatched at any moment, and any of them could be the murderer. It’s your secret ballot votes that determine who lives, who dies and who will be unmasked as the culprit.

In Murder Village, the local police inspector may be incompetent but thankfully there is always an amateur
sleuth on hand to sort the red herrings from the tell-tale clues. See if you can solve the crime first…
whether you see one show or all of them, no two chapters of this critically acclaimed show are the same!

“Completely enthralling… ★★★★★” - Theatre People
“Fully improvised and very funny... highly recommended. ★★★★” - Sydney Arts Guide
“A classic English murder mystery that’s fully improvised and loaded with humour.” - The Age
“Murder, mystery, mayhem and outright comic brilliance.” - Weekend Notes
"A laugh-out-loud, rollicking good show; who knew murder could be so entertaining" - The Plus Ones
