“This is our third iteration of The Importance of Being Earnest,” says Keith. “It’s such a fantastic and fun play - as relevant and hilarious today as when it was written.”

“Our ethos has always been to bring this wonderful work to new audiences, as well to reinvent and re-energise the play for those who’ve already seen it. We’ve done vanilla, we’ve done saucy and salacious; this time around, we’re having even more fun with it! We’ve distilled the play into 70 minutes of all killer and no filler, while keeping the essence of Earnest intact. And just to make it even wilder (see what I did there?), we do it all with just three actors and an improvised musical track!”

PUFFS: The Play

Event Date: 07/09/2023, 07:30 pm

For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a school and conquered evil. The Puffs were also there.
The Off-Broadway sensation and Potter parody PUFFS returns to Sydney this September.

This clever and inventive play gives you a new look at a familiar adventure from the perspective of three potential heroes just trying to make it through a magic school that proves to be very dangerous for children. Alongside them are the Puffs, a group of well-meaning, loyal outsiders with a thing for badgers. Their heartfelt and epic journey takes the classic story to new places and reimagines what a boy wizard hero can be.

A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world.

Verdi Requiem

Event Date: 03/09/2023, 03:00 pm

Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra combines with Willoughby Symphony Choir to bring you ...
On Sunday 3 September at 3pm, the KPO will combine forces with the Willoughby Symphony Choir to present the extraordinary experience of Verdi’s Requiem Mass.
Filled with drama and extraordinary lyricism, hearing the Requiem live in performance is – in the words of conductor and artistic director Paul Terracini – “an experience that no-one should miss”!
Verdi’s epic Requiem Mass, a work considered by some to be his greatest masterpiece, had an extraordinary gestation.
The composer was initially asked to contribute a single movement to a Requiem Mass in memory of fellow Italian composer Gioachino Rossini.
However, the planned performance of this new work was eventually abandoned. Years later in 1873, when Alessandro Manzoni died, Verdi decided that he would not make the same mistake and would compose an entire Requiem Mass on his own.
He took the “Libera Me” that he had already written, and reworked it to become part of a new Requiem Mass.

Verdi’s Requiem Mass follows to some degree the traditional sequence of the Latin requiem mass but was modified by the composer in a way he considered more dramatic.
The result was a work described by critic Hans von Bulow as an “opera, in church vestments.”
Composed at a time when many considered that Verdi would soon retire, Verdi’s Requiem Mass confirmed his place as one of Italy’s greatest composers.

Tommy Dean: Anecdotes And Annotations

Event Date: 31/08/2023, 06:50 pm

Sydney Fringe Festival
Our favourite adopted American comedian, TV and Comedy Festival and TGIF! (ABC Radio) regular Tommy Dean brings his new show to Fringe after a couple of years quite literally spent back in the wild wild west (AKA the USA).

The massively popular, ageless American is well known from his hilarious TV and radio appearances, where he has appeared in all the faves over the years. You’ve seen him everywhere from Spicks and Specks to Good News Week, Rove Live and The Sideshow, on multiple episodes of Just For Laughs Australia, and even performing to a literally empty Sydney Opera House during Sydney’s first lockdown in their streamed “Humour Us” event series.

Don’t miss the charismatic, consistently hilarious American with long rock god hair and deep Arizonan drawl when Tommy Dean brings his anecdotes and annotations to Sydney Fringe Comedy!

SARAH Quand Meme

Event Date: 30/08/2023, 07:30 pm

Written and performed by Susie Lindeman. Meraki Arts Mainstage Darlinghurst
On March 28th 1923, Sarah Bernhardt died, and a million grieving Parisians took to the streets to bid farewell to the phenomenon known as ‘La Divine’.
On March 28th 2023 - marking this centenary - SARAH Quand Même, opened at Théâtre de Nèsle in Paris.

Now, just as ‘La Divine’ did in 1891, the show makes its debut Downunder – with two genuine Australian theatre legends at the helm.

Written & performed by SUSIE LINDEMAN and directed by WAYNE HARRISON, the Sydney premiere season plays August 29th to September 2nd at the Meraki Arts Mainstage in Darlinghurst.
But SARAH Quand Même reveals La Divine’s story from the inside.
This new Australian play has the honour of being the only theatrical tribute to Sarah Bernhardt in Paris,
alongside the current exhibition at the Petit Palais, “Sarah Bernhardt: Et la femme Créa la Star”. She was always ahead of her time.

The plot: It is nearly show-time and Sarah is rehearsing. But when her granddaughter asks for a story,
Sarah inspires a drama filled with the daring of a woman both celebrated and condemned.
Caught between the myth and her monster (the audience) - la scène and l’esprit - Sarah reveals her inner self for the first, and last, time. The play is performed in English with interspersed French.
