STEEL MAGNOLIAS - Quick Tix

Event Date: 30/10/2014, 08:00 pm

Experience this touching and funny play
STEEL MAGNOLIAS by Robert Harling

DIRECTED BY PHILIP JOHN
Set in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town's rich curmudgeon Ouiser ("I'm not crazy, I've just been in a bad mood for forty years"); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M'Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town) is about to marry a "good ole boy."

Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life. The sudden realisation of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on the underlying strength—and love—which give the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvellously amiable company in good times and bad.

CAST:
Amber Van Dusen as Truvy
Josephine Parsons as Annelle
Nicki James as Clairee
Felicity Burke as Ouiser
Christina Moylan as Shelby
Leanne Smith as M'Lynn

Event Date: 29/10/2014, 09:00 pm

Honest & utterly hilarious for men & women, couples & singles alike
Exclusive Preview performance!

Director: Lisa Eismen
With Eliza St John
(Bruce Beresford’s Mao’s Last Dancer, Bull Dog Theatre’s Alex & Eve)

V.D. is a side-splitting, one-woman show exploring the life of Sophie, a 35-year-old romantic, who has developed a strange habit of acquiring a new cat for every Valentine’s Day she spends single – she now has 10 cats. The audience joins Sophie as she falls in and out of love, struggles with power-plays in her new job, and embarks on a journey of spiritual (un)enlightenment. This is not the usual, ‘Sex and the City’-esque tale of a pathetic, lonely 30-something woman, V.D is acerbic, honest and utterly hilarious for men and women, couples and singles alike.
Beginning life as a multi-award-winning, smash-hit 10 minute play, Pete Malicki and Lisa Eismen have deftly moulded V.D. into a one hour comical tour de force that has toured and delighted the world, with Eliza St John enjoying relentless critical acclaim for her performances as Sophie.
Since 2011 V.D. has been per

formed in Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Auckland, Malaysia, England, United States, Philippines, India and the Edinburgh and Brighton Fringe Festivals. V.D. has so far won a total of 13 awards including Best Theatre Performance, Brighton Fringe; Winner 5 Minute Festival, London; Judges' Choice Five Minute Festival, Lost Theatre Company, London.

Critical Praise for V.D:

“...pure comedy magic, as you experience this witty woman’s endless cringe-worthy disasters, as performed by Eliza St John. Highly recommended” – Sydney arts guide

“...hilarious and deeply entertaining hour-long monologue in which Eliza St john carries the audience in the palm of her hand, perfectly delivering Malicki’s script that gets stronger with every incarnation.”

November Spawned A Monster - Quick Tix

Event Date: 28/10/2014, 07:00 pm

Experience a World Premiere!
This production is the World Premiere of November Spawned a Monster, the one-man play beautifully interwoven with the music of Morrissey and The Smiths.
Shocked out of his post-adolescence self-obsession by the death of a close friend, William, a 20 something Melburnian, attempts to make his way in an unfamiliar world. Lost and lonely, he decides to embark on a pilgrimage to Manchester, the birthplace of his idol Morrissey and the band that shaped his life, The Smiths.
In order to finance his trip William takes a job working as a support worker for Patrice, a dynamic, passionate woman who happens to be confined to a wheel chair due to cerebral palsy. Much to his surprise William discovers Patrice is a fellow Morrissey/Smiths tragic and a delicate bond begins to grow. William is confronted by some very hard choices as he discovers that real love is much deeper than physical attraction and the true meaning of friendship.

With classic Morrissey and The Smiths songs performed live throughout the play, by the astoundingly talented James Wright, November Spawned a Monster is a touching, funny and unlikely love story about the need to learn life’s lessons, before it’s too late.
Critical Praise for Half a Person: My Life as told by The Smiths:

“...very entertaining from beginning to end. Frankly, if you don’t find anything to like about Half A Person, you
must be more miserable than Morrissey!” – Everything Theatre, UK

“Broun’s quick-fire comedy perfectly matched Morrissey’s witty lyrics” – Stage Whispers
