2016 is the centenary of the Easter Rising and the 20th anniversary of Michael Collins. There has never been a better time to revisit this controversial milestone of Irish cinema.

Neil Jordan's blockbuster Michael Collins is a thrilling account of a watershed moment in Irish history. Following the Rising, Michael Collins, played superbly by Neeson, trains a guerilla army to fight against the British for Irish independence. By turns war film, gangster film, and romance, Neil Jordan's controversial epic was among the first films to depict the civil war up to Collins' death. Before then, many films avoided what remains a hugely contentious national event. Chris Menges' lavish cinematography is superb, particularly during the smoke-filled nighttime scenes. The supporting cast features Alan Rickman as Éamon de Valera, Aidan Quinn as Harry Boland, and Julia Roberts as Kitty Kiernan.

The cult of celebrity dissected in Nick Enright’s A Man With Five Children.
Written in 1999, Enright pre-empted the current discussion on reality TV and public obsession with manufactured celebrity.

Inspired by the popular documentary 7-Up and the effect it had on its participants, A Man With Five Children chronicles the lives of five diverse Australians, who become celebrities via reality TV, and are held in the public eye from childhood through to adulthood.

Gerry is a documentary maker who sets out to capture the lives of five children on film. One day a year, every year, until they turn 21. As the children’s hopes and heartaches are played out on national television for the public’s entertainment, questions are raised. Is Gerry an observer or is the camera distorting their lives? Are the participants his subjects, his children or his creations? But as long as it makes for good television and the public still want it, Gerry just keeps on filming.

A Man With Five Children invites the audience into a world of fractured celebrity, distorted vision and audience complicity. Nick Enright’s insightful drama about the power of the media and the cult of celebrity is more relevant now than ever.

This is a rare opportunity to see one of Nick Enright’s finest works and his final major play.

Directed by leading Australian director Anthony Skuse.

Titled PULSE, this 3 hour show features all the Pink Floyd classics as on the PULSE CD/DVD including a performance of The Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety. Not just a live concert but a full recreation.
This critically acclaimed touring production has been performing since 1997 and touring internationally since 2004. With hundreds of performances and five completely different shows under their belts, all based on Pink Floyd albums including The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall and now Pulse, these guys have it down to a fine art. From the vocals of both Gilmour and Waters, the haunting Rick Wright keyboards, searing guitar solos, sultry saxophone right down to the slick backing vocals and percussion, the replication is so close if you were to close your eyes you would think you were listening to Pink Floyd

The Imperial Bells of China returns to Australia with a new production.

Touring to Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne in May and June 2016, The Imperial Bells of China returns to Australia with a new production which incorporates new elements including dance and folk songs.

In 1978, the 2,400-year-old bronze and stonechime-bells of Duke Zeng’s Tomb, together with a series of other ancient instruments, were unearthed in Hubei China. Inspired by these discoveries, Hubei Opera Theatre staged the Chime Music and Dance performance bringing song, musical instruments and dance together, and puts bronze, stone, jian drum and dozens of other ancient instruments on the same stage. Through this artistic style the beautiful ancient music and dance of China are brought alive together on one stage.

“Transport yourself back in time 2400 years and witness a truly unique and enchanting experience, said Elizabeth Wan Event Manager. “Immerse yourself in history and prepare to be astonished by the beautifully crafted Ancient Bells of China. Not only is the sound of the bells filled with romantic and sonorous melodies but they are also visually breathtaking due to their grand scale and elaborate cast technique. Discovering the music, cultural and spiritual history and being taken away by the ethnic folk dancers and musicians all set in 900s, is part of what makes this show unique.

Experience the lost world of “Ten Kingdoms” with exquisite ancient costumes and magnificent production.

The Imperial of China represents a ritual in China’s outbound cultural exchanges, it has been performed in front of Chinese President Xi Jin Ping, Egyptian Present Abdel Fattah, The king and queen of Belgium and many more during the official visits and all across 57 countries and regions for more than 1000 times.

REEFER MADNESS is a laugh-out-loud musical satire based on the 1936 instructional film
Writers/composers Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney took the much-mocked cult film and created an all-singing, all-dancing parody that is set to leave Sydney audiences on a high!

Rockdale Musical Society brings the brilliant show to the Depot Theatre, Marrickville - in Sydney’s sinful inner west - for a limited season from 1-5 June.

The over-the-top, campy story begins with a Lecturer informing the audience of the new drug menace,
Marijuana, which threatens the American way of life.

He tells the story of a young high school student, Jimmy Harper, whose life is turned upside down by the "demon weed".
Jimmy spends all of his time in the Reefer Den ignoring his family, school, and most importantly his girlfriend: the quintessential all-American sweetheart, Mary Lane.
He eventually realises the error of his ways; but it’s too late to turn over a new leaf! Jimmy must pay the price of REEFER MADNESS!
