It Shoulda Been You

Event Date: 31/03/2017, 08:00 pm

A Sydney theatre company is to present the Australian premiere of a hilarious new Broadway show
IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU is a hilarious and wild, musical farce with blushing brides,
nervous grooms, overbearing mums, unexpected guests, and plenty of crazy twists and turns.
It’s the funniest wedding you will ever go to… and it’s coming to the Independent Theatre, North Sydney from 31 March!
The bride is Jewish. The groom is Catholic.
Her mother is a force of nature, his mother is a tempest in a cocktail shaker - WHAT could possibly go wrong?
And, when the bride's ex-boyfriend crashes the party, it's up to the sister of the bride to turn a tangled mess
into happily-ever-after in this musical comedy for anyone who has ever had parents!
Charming, funny and original, It Shoulda Been You invites you to a roller-coaster of a wedding day, with a twist or three!

According to director James Worner – a legend of the Sydney theatre scene – there are all the relatable, familiar fears, tensions and joys of a family celebration… and then some.

“Family expectations, self-doubt, fear of disappointing loved ones, maternal love and approval, conflict and acceptance… it’s all there!
And throw in some star-crossed lovers and there really is something for everyone!”

Worner explains why he was so keen to direct the show – and thrilled when Chatswood won the rights to its Australian premiere:
“On a recent trip to New York, I saw a dozen Broadway shows and this was the best of them, hands down!
We all see elements of ourselves in the characters if not the situations themselves. It’s also laugh-out loud funny!
I also love that our heroine is unconventional, defying the usual clichés. Plump, no-nonsense but ultimately seeking affirmation from her mother.”

It Shoulda Been You is a wedding musical that you'll never forget, where anything that can go wrong does, and love pops up in mysterious places.
As Worner says “Who doesn’t love – and deserve - a fabulous wedding… if they want one?”

Thoroughbass is an early music ensemble whose members play period instruments
Thoroughbass, one Australia’s finest early music ensembles, presents the latest musical treat when their trio performs
on Sunday 26 March as part of the popular Prelude in Tea concert series at the spectacular
- and acoustically perfect - Independent Theatre, North Sydney.

The last-Sunday-of-the-month chamber music series has been a runaway success, offering a scrumptious afternoon tea from 2:30 as a prelude to an afternoon concert at 3:30 from some of Australia's most exciting musicians.
Music, food and drink… an irresistible triple treat!
This month’s recital at the Independent Theatre, on Sunday 26 March, features acclaimed trio THOROUGHBASS:
Anna Fraser (soprano), Shaun Ng (viola da gamba) and Diana Weston (harpsichord).
They present an all-Handel program featuring both instrumental and vocal delights from the composer’s youthful years.

Thoroughbass is an early music ensemble whose members play period instruments,
but – by their own admission - who have trouble staying in the past!

The program (all works by Georg Friedrich Handel) features:
Sonata No. 6 in D min for viola da gamba & basso continuo | Parti, I’idolo mio | Suite 15 in d min for harpsichord Zeffiretto, arresta il volo |
Sonata No. 2 in D min for viola da gamba & basso continuo | Suite X in d min for harpsichord | Numi eterni! (Lucrezia)

The Australian Romantic & Classical Orches...

Event Date: 25/03/2017, 07:30 pm

The Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra (formerly orchestra seventeen88)
The Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra brings to life the colours and contrasts of Classical music together with the expressive and emotional realm of Romantic music - all performed on the exquisite and dynamic period instruments of the time!

In its exciting touring 2017 season, Australia’s world-class Romantic and Classical orchestra presents bold and daring programs with superlative soloists, conducted by Artistic Director Richard Gill AO
and Principal Guest Conductor Benjamin Bayl.

ARCO (which also means ‘to bow’ a string instrument in Italian music terminology) burst onto Australia’s music scene in late 2013 as orchestra seventeen88 and has since performed outstanding orchestral and chamber concerts all around Australia.

Featuring some of Australia’s finest international musicians and directed by legendary Australian conductor and educator Richard Gill AO,
it aims ‘to inspire, educate and enlighten’ audiences. Through the combination of historical integrity and quality of musical performance, ARCO leads a rediscovery of Classical and Romantic repertoire with the beauty and clarity unique to a full period instrument orchestra.
It has also made music education a focal point of its vision and the ambitious 2017 program steps this up a gear too with a series of workshops for public and private school students in Melbourne and at Sydney’s Santa Sabina College.

The excitement begins in March with the “Italian Romance” program, featuring Beethoven’s Romance for Violin (Rachael Beesley, soloist; Benjamin Bayl, conductor) and Mendelssohn’s beloved ‘Italian’ Symphony.
